Description of Physical Space

Mabry Middle School (front view)

Mabry Middle School is Located AT 2700 Jims Road, Marietta, Georgia, 30066. Each grade level (sixth, seventh, and eighth) is designated a specific wing of the school. Basically, each grade level is isolated from one another in proximity.

Among each grade level, the students are divided up into "pods." The pods consist of Pod A, Pod B, and Pod C. Each pod has four teachers, including a Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts teacher. Each teacher has his/her own classroom within his/her pod, and the students move between these classes for each period, unless they are going to their Connections classes, which take place in another wing of the school. Each pod has a designated section in each grade level's wing, and the classes within each pod are located next door to one another.

Each classroom has two long windows that can be opened and provide a view to the outside. There are usually around twenty desks in each classroom, and a teacher's desk. The science classrooms have black lab tables instead of desks.

Pod's A, B, and C surround a large common area, which ironically, is called "commons." The commons area for each grade level is also that grade level's cafeteria. The commons area is where students of the same grade level, but from different pods, can come together to socialize.

The students from each grade level use the gym and covered play areas during the physical education class period. The students also have access to the library as a group, or on their free time. The library also has computers available for the students to use. Mabry has a MAC-Lab that the students can use (there is a photo and brief description of the MAC-Lab under the Classroom Image Link).

Mabry Middle School does have some trailors, but that does not affect students use of the school's facilities. The school is physically maintained well. Under normal circumstances, the school building does not have a negative effect on the students' learning experiences.
