True Love

It was very hot that day

The children didn’t even want to play

It was the week of the Passover feast

So I had made the bread, without any yeast

I tried to concentrate on the task at hand

But a great noise was soon heard throughout the land

So I put down my cooking, and walked to the door

And before me there was a sight most would abhor

A man trod up the hill, with many thorns in his head

With all the blood, I thought he should be dead

“That’s Jesus!” I heard a man exclaim

“The one who makes that really crazy claim”

A sound broke from me, it was a sigh

It was just too bad such a man had to die

The crowd was getting bigger, it was impossible to cook,

So I put out the fire, and set out on foot

I followed the crowd, to a place called Calvary,

My head tilted back, in order to see

The sight that befell me was shocking and bad,

Though I hid it, I was getting mad

Jesus was hanging on a cross for all to see

I got frightened when he looked right at me

I averted my eyes, I couldn’t bear the pain

Because suddenly I knew this was not done in vain

At the moment of death, an earthquake shook the earth,

Gone was the days earlier mirth

After the initial shock was gone,

I sat on a rock, to think all alone

I suddenly knew what this was about,

There weren’t anymore shadows of doubt

Jesus died so that we might live

If only to him, our lives we would give
