(A cold, lonely park. SEPHIROTH waits there, seated. He wears a black trenchcoat, gloves, carries masamune. Tears glisten on his cheeks. KATY rushes in. She has exchanged her black leather trenchcoat for a silver elvish outfit.)

KATY: Sephy, my dearest-

SEPHIROTH: Please, don't call me that. (Beat.) You recieved my note?

KATY: I did. Terrible news!

SEPHIROTH: There was no other way to tell you but forthrightly.

KATY: I don't understand your decision to break off my obsession.

SEPHIROTH: That is why I asked you to meet me here. (Beat.) At half past six o'clock.

KATY: I'm sorry to be so late. I had to stay and finish watching the film. Lord of the Rings is a 3 hour movie...but I had to watch Legolas.

SEPHIROTH: You see, you do understand my note after all.

KATY: No, no. (Taking his hands.) Could anyone idolize you more than I?

SEPHIROTH: (A small shake of his head) Another idol has displaced me. And if it can't cheer and comfort you in the time to come, as I would have tried to do, that is the way of the world.

KATY: What are you talking about? What idol displaced you?

SEPHIROTH: A bow and arrow toting Elven idol.

KATY: Sephiroth, be reasonable! I am only trying to deal with my head on its own terms.

SEPHIROTH: You fear your head too much, Katy. All your other obsessions have disappeared, leaving one.

KATY: Sephiroth-

SEPHIROTH: It's true. I've seen your nobler obsessions fall away one by one, until only one master passion engrosses you. Legolas.

KATY: What of it? Even if I have fallen for him, I am not changed towards you. Sephiroth- am I?

SEPHIROTH: (turns away a moment; gently.) When you saw my long hair, you were content with it, and just it. We knew that together this obsession could grow. That was enough. In those days, Katy, you were another woman.

KATY: I was a girl, witless and naive.

SEPHIROTH: You see? Your own feelings tell you that you are not what you once were. Alas, I am. I am still merely pixels, while Legolas...Orli...is real. How often and how painfully I have thought of that, I won't say. It is enough that I have thought of it- and can release you.

KATY: Have I ever sought release?

SEPHIROTH: In words, no, never.

KATY: In what then?

SEPHIROTH: In a changed nature. An altered picture. I'm no longer above your pillow, Legolas is. Tell me, if I didn't have the hair, would you have sought me out as an obsession?

KATY: (colder.) You think not. (snow begins to fall.)

SEPHIROTH: I would gladly think otherwise-if I could. (goes to her.) It's a hard truth, but it is the truth. You love Legolas too much. You love the Elvish ways. I have nothing to give you, Katy. Nothing of what you value. I release you. I do so with a heart full of love for the woman you once were. (He kisses her cheek tenderly) You'll only feel a little pain. May you be happy in this life you have chosen.

KATY: Don't do this Sephiroth.

SEPHIROTH: There's no other way. Goodbye, Katy. (He exits. She stands forlorn in the falling snow as the scene fades.)
