2006 - now: Alexander von Humboldt research scholar, Benthic Ecology, IFM-GEOMAR, Kiel University, Kiel (Supervisor Prof. Martin Wahl).

·        Project: “The effect of algae and mussels on formation of microbial and macrofouling communities”

2006: Visiting Scientist, Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbial Ecology, Bremen (Supervisor Prof. Rudolf Amann).

  • Project: “Development of a CARD- FISH technique for microfouling communities”

2003 to 2006: Research Associate, Biology Dep., Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong (Supervisor Prof. Pei Yuan Qian).

2001-2003: Visiting Scholar, Biology Dep., Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong.

  • Qualitative (TRFLP, DGGE, FISH) and quantitative (SEM, TEM, CSLM) investigation of formation and development of microbial communities on different substrata and their effect on larval settlement
  • Discovery of antibacterial and antifouling compounds from marine bacteria and soft-body organisms. Research experience includes bioassay-guided isolation and purification of antifouling compounds (TLC, HPLC, GC, MS)
  • Assist Prof. P-Y Qian in supervising undergraduate and graduate students

  • Investigation of the effect of abiotic (salinity, temperature) and biotic factors (phytoplankton, micro- and macrobiota) on the distribution and recruitment of larvae
