Chapter Nineteen

The next morning, Kevin, AJ, Brian, and Howie sat in the hotel restaurant eating breakfast with Jack, Claudia, Lara, and Lily.

“Did anyone hear all the noise coming from down the hall?” Jack said with a smirk.

“Hell yeah. Sounds like our little girl finally got some.” Claudia laughed.

“Sounds like the got more than some. I think they the broke the bed.” AJ chimed in.

“Guys, leave them alone. They went through a rough ordeal the past couple of days and found each other.” Howie broke in.

“We’re happy for them, don’t get us wrong, D. It’s just that it’s been awhile since we saw Nick so happy and we’re just enjoying the fact.” AJ reassured Howie.

“Yeah, same for Emily. It’s about time she found someone she loved.” Lara said thoughtfully.

“Hell yeah.” Suddenly Jack paled.

“What’s wrong?” Lara looked at him.

“It’s Emmy’s parents. And they don’t look too happy.” He nodded in the direction he was looking. Everyone turned and, sure enough, there was Emily’s parents talking to the clerk. Once they got the information they needed, they proceeded to the elevator. Both of them had matching scowls on their faces.

“Do you think we should follow them?” Brian looked at the rest.

“Is Josh Hartnett hot?” Jack shot back.

“We’ll take that as a yes.” AJ said as they got up and headed for the other elevator.

The rays filtered in through the curtains and hit Emily's face and she opened her eyes. She felt Nick’s arms around her and she sighed. //He looks perfect when he sleeps.// She shifted a little to stare at him. He stirred and opened his eyes. He smiled when he saw her.

“Good morning.” His voice was a little raspy.

“Morning, love.” Emily replied.

“Call me that again.” Nick closed his eyes again for a second.

“My love, my darling, my guiding light.” She cuddled closer to him.

“God, I love that. I love you so very much.” He sighed contentedly.

They lay there in silence, just enjoying the moment, when they heard a loud pounding at the door.

“Open this door!” A male voice shouted.

“Dad?” Emily sat bolt upright.

“Your parents are here?” Nick paled a little.

“Obviously. Get your robe on! They can’t see us here naked.” Emily jumped up and threw on her robe. Smoothing her hair a little, she ran to the door and calmly opened it. “Mom, Dad, what are you doing here?”

“Peter came to our door, battered and bruised, last night. He told us that you struck him repeatedly after saying that your relationship was over. We have come to knock some sense into you.” Her mother said through clenched teeth.

“There’s nothing you can say that will make me go back to that monster.” She crossed her arms.

“Let us in so we can speak to you, young lady.” Her father said. Emily consented and let them through the door.

“Save your breath. You really can’t convince me.” Emily shook her head.

“How could you do this to us? We had this marriage planned since you were a teenager. You knew how much this meant to us.” Her mother glared at Emily.

“What about me? Did you ever stop to think about how I felt? No, you never cared about what I thought or felt. Didn’t you care that for two days I was stuck inside that God forsaken cabin, with no hope of getting out?” Tears began to prick Emily’s eyes, but she held them back.

“You got out, didn’t you?” The father replied calmly.

“I can’t believe you! You never cared about what happened to me as long as your precious merger worked.” Her voice was growing unsteady.

“If you had just stayed with Peter instead of running off like the twit you are, none of that would have happened.” Her mother spat out.

Nick stepped out of the bedroom. “Don’t you dare talk to her like that.” He clenched his fists.

“Ah, so now we see the reasons for your running around. You little slut.” The father’s face grew red.

“How dare you! You both are the most despicable pieces of scum on this planet. I hate both of you. I’m glad I was trapped under that snow, because if I hadn’t, I never would have met Nick. I shouldn’t have expected you to understand the love that he and I have because neither of you have a heart. I don’t care if you disown me, cut me out of that damned will, or spit on my name for the rest of your miserable lives. Just get out of my sight and never show yourselves to me again.” Emily screamed at them. She moved to the door and opened it roughly.

“We are not leaving without you. You are coming with us.” Her father grabbed Emily’s arm roughly and she fought to pull away.

“Let go of her, you fucking prick!” Nick tried to tackle him, but the man was alert and punched Nick square in the jaw. Nick stumbled and fell to the floor. Suddenly, the door opened. There was Kevin and one of his bodyguards, a man named Marcus.

“Is there a problem here?” Kevin said calmly.

“Yes, Kevin. Can you please escort these two maniacs out of our room? I have never met these two lunatic stalkers in my life and they just barged in here.” Emily said with a grin.

“Certainly. Marcus, if you please.” Kevin turned to the big man. Marcus nodded and proceeded to push Samantha’s parents out the door.

“You will regret this, Emily! You are never to be part of this family ever again. You will be left penniless!” The father shouted.

“If I ever see you or your psycho bitch of a wife anywhere near me again, I will call the police. That goes for Peter as well.” Emily shouted back.

Finally, they were gone and Emily ran to Nick’s side.

“Oh my God, he didn’t hurt you too badly, did he?” Emily checked the bruise.

“Nah, I’ll be fine. He’s got a helluva right hook, though.” Nick laughed and got up.

“Thank the Lord.” Emily sighed in relief. She turned to Kevin. “Thank you so much. You’re my hero!” She jumped and hugged him. He laughed and hugged back, then put her down.

“It’s nothing, really.” He said, blushing.

“Hey, what am I?” Nick feigned being hurt.

“You are my savior, Nick. Never forget that.” She kissed him.

Everyone else walked into the room.

“Is everything ok?” Claudia asked.

“Yes. I think for the first time, everything will be just fine.” Emily smiled.
