Chris Kirkpatrick came up with the original idea of *NSYNC. Chris had met Justin Timberlake at a couple auditions and decided to find out if he was interested in starting a new group. Justin agreed and decided to call up an old friend, JC Chasez. The two (Timberlake and Chasez) had been on MMC together a few years back. When the three met up, they quickly became friends. They went out clubbin' one night and met Joey Fatone, who was friends with Chris and JC through working at Universal Studios. Chris introduced Justin to Joey and they became friends instantaneously. They got together to see if their voices flowed and they did just that and more. There was one slight problem though. They needed a bass voice to complete the harmonies. They looked around for a bass singer. Justin called up his old vocal coach who then introduced them to Lance Bass. They harmonized perfectly with his bass voice. The rest was history. Soon, Justin's mom came up with the name. It all seemed so perfect. They never thought they would become this famous though.
