starter part I

“What would you like to talk about today?”

The client sits across from him, studying his hand, perplexed by the smoothness of his creamy, white skin. The question fades into the open space of the office unanswered.

“Josh?”

“I heard you the first time and I don’t really feel like talking.” His hand now raised directly across from his face for further inspection. Through the spaces between his spread fingers his eyes penetrate the therapists.

Unnerved the questioning resumes. “Have you been feeling well?”

With an irritated sigh, his hand fell limply to his lap. His fingers intertwine with the other and his hand gazing had come to an end.

“Great!” Mock enthusiasm saturated his voice.

Notes were scribbled onto the therapists notepad before he proceeded. “And the pills? Have they made you feel better?”

“They’ve stopped me from doing “bad things”. His fingers created quotation marks to emphasize the words.

More notes were hastily scribbled.

“Well, it looks like we are done for today.” The therapist said as a smile powered by mock genuineness spread across his lips.

The client removed himself from the black leather chair eager to distance himself from the probing inquiry. The therapist remained seated not surprised at the lack of progress.
