" Joey thought for a minute, "Well…not really much, went on a few dates, went to a few clubs, went to a couple movies and shopping malls and fast food joints. I dunno, lots of stuff but nothing interesting you know?" Joey kind of confused himself but got a hold of what he said almost without missing a beat.
"Oh, that’s cool! Sounds exciting! Was one if those girls the one you've fallen in love with?" Grace asked.
"Huh? Oh! Oh no, you defiantly know her. No you know her. But I've never dated her either." Joey trailed off in the middle of the last sentence.
"Hmm…I know her?"
"You sure do."
"Is she staying in this house right now?"
"What is this? 20 questions?"
"Just answer, Joey" Grace asked with an irritated tone
"Is she staying in this house right now? Yes, yes, she certainly is." Joey said slowly
"Grandma!" Grace laughed
Joey laughed "No, she's my age or younger"
"It's... Brandi!" Grace said starting to run through names of the girls in the house.
"No, that’s Jayce, oops, don’t say anything," Joey blushed.
"Oh umm…Al?" Grace questioned.
"Nope" Joey said simply
"Nope," Grace repeated, "well, I guess not, its kinda illegal… hmm, Susan? She's your age." Joey didn’t answer but she saw he was getting a little fidgety but she thought it was because he liked Susan, not because she as narrowing in on the last girl in the house; her. She sat up quickly, "Oh my gosh!" she exclaimed with fake enthusiasm which Joey didn’t catch, as she smacked him in the stomach. "You like Susan? Well why not? You have lots in common, I guess." Grace said excitedly outside, dejected inside.
"What?" Joey was confused at what she just said. "Oh, uh, Susan, yeah well. I guess, I mean like, she's nice and all. But I don’t know, in reality we're like the sun and the moon you know, similar but totally completely different and it would never work out." Joey tried to give excuses to not keep Grace guessing but get away from the whole thing.
"Oh," Grace said and decided she didn’t want to hear about it so she changed the subject. "So, meet any interesting people yesterday at the meet and greet?" she inquired
"Joey laughed "Well, not me personally but boy JC got quite a shock, poor guy. Okay, check it, this girl, Amanda I think her name was, yeah, I'm pretty sure that’s it, anyway, she comes up, grabs his butt. It was so funny, he was like 'Hello! Do I know you?' you know, but it was awesome, you should have seen the look on his face!" after that, they just both dissolved in fits of laughter.
Then Lance walked in "Joey? I think you need to start getting ready to go, and G? I think that means it's about time you go, you've been up here nearly an hour and I dunno if you'll wanna watch his primping habits, it ain't too pretty and I mean, you can talk to him a little bit later, when he's ready to go."
Grace got up, to Lance she said "Oh, okay," Then, turning to Joey, putting a hand on his shoulder she said, "I'll talk to you later bro."
"Okay, later surf!" Joey joked.
"What did you call me?"
" Surf, you've called me bro twice in an hour, you sound like a surfer!" he mused
She ruffled his already messy hair and said, " Okay, well, I do need to go and let you get ready." Then she turned before he could draw her into another conversation.
"You know, that might have made a difference if I had combed my hair yet but you know!" he laughed
She smiled, "Bye Joey. Get ready, the sooner you do, the sooner we can talk again." Then she laughed as the sweatpants and t-shirt clad figure literally sprung up very quickly, grabbed his duffle bag and almost flew into the bathroom. She grinned, turned and closed the door behind her and walked down the hall with Lance to the family room to visit with her family and friends she'd virtually ignored for the past day.
