Chapter 2

Haley and Justin left the restaurant and walked to her car. Something was different about her. He looked over at her with a confused look on his face.

"What?" she asked without looking at him.

"Nothing." Justin said.

She took the keys out of her pocket and unlocked the doors. Justin climbed into the passenger seat and watched her get behind the wheel.

"Is something bothering you?" Haley asked, concerned.

"Something just seems different about you and I can't figure it out."

"I cut my hair."

"That's not it. I mean your personality changed." Justin said.

"You really have problems, Justin. Can we please go...now?"

Haley started the engine and started driving home, "We have to go to my house first, I need your help with something."

"With what?" he asked.

"If I tell you, you won't help me," she said.

A few minutes later they pulled up in front of Haley's house. They got out and went into the house.

"What do you need help with?" he asked as they went up the stairs.

Haley opened the door to her room. There were boxes all over the floor filled with her things.

"You're moving?" Justin asked, disappointed.

"Yeah, but not out of the city," she informed him.

Haley picked up a box and went over to her closet, "Can you put all my pictures in that box over there?"

Justin picked up a box and went over to the shelf where she kept all the picture frames. There were pictures of Justin and Haley together, Haley on the swim team, parties, and everything else you could think of. Justin had seen them all before, all except one.

"Who's this?" he asked, holding up a picture of a guy with brown hair sitting on a bench.

Haley put down the box she was holding and walked over to him to get a better look of the picture. She took it from him and smiled when she looked at the picture, "Oh, that's my boyfriend, Jeff."

Justin's face dropped slightly, "Jeff? You never told me about any Jeff."

"You never asked me," she said.

Haley went back over to where she was working and continued to pull clothes out of the closet. He put the picture in the box and walked over to her.

"This Jeff...how long have you been going out?" he asked.

"Five months," she answered.

"Oh," he said and turned to go back to the shelf with the pictures. He stopped and turned around again.

"Where are you moving to anyway?" Justin asked.

"In with Jeff. What's with all these questions anyway?" she asked, irritated.

"You're already moving in with him?!" he cried.

"Yes, I am. Don't start telling me it's wrong or give me a lecture, I've heard enough from my parents." Haley retorted.

"You're right. I'm sorry," he apologized, "he must not be that bad if you like him. When do I get to meet him?"

She shrugged, "I dunno."

"Okay. Come on, we have to finish your packing.

2 Days Later

Justin and Haley pulled up in front of Jeff's house. He turned of the engine and leaned over to get a better look at the house. It was one floor and one of the shutters seemed to be broken but other than that, it looked nice.

"So this is it?" he asked.

"Yep." Haley said and opened the door.

Justin climbed out and opened the back doors and trunk full of Haley's boxes. They started unloading the car and piling the boxes on the sidewalk. He noticed someone in the house shut the curtain in the front window, but shrugged it off.

"Haley, baby! You're here!" someone said happily from behind them.

They turned around to see Jeff. Haley shrieked and gave him a hug.

"Jeff, meet Justin," she said, turning around to face Justin.

Justin smiled and waved. Jeff glanced at him then looked back at Haley.

"Well, I should get the rest of these boxes out of your car so you can get going," he offered.

"Okay, thanks." Justin said as they began to unload her many boxes.

"You sure you don't want me to help you carry them in?" he asked.

"No thanks. We're fine." Jeff said.

Justin shrugged and pulled out his keys. He got in the car and drove away.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jeff asked angrily, turning around to face Haley.

"Huh?"

"You know exactly what I'm talking about! You're always talking about him, he takes you out to lunch, and you invite him to your house? What do you think you're doing?!" he screamed.

"It's not like that! We-" Haley tried to explain as she took a step back.

"Get in the house!"

Justin paced his room, thinking. He couldn't get Haley off his mind. She seemed to have changed somehow and it was bothering him.

Don't think about this anymore, he thought as he stood up and walked over to his window, you came here to enjoy yourself.

He picked up an old picture of himself and Haley and studied it closely.

"So that's the reason..." Justin said out loud.

The problem wasn't with Haley, it was with himself. After seven years of knowing her, he finally realized he liked her.

"But it's too late," he said out loud again, "She has a boyfriend already, she doesn't like you like that."

He put the picture back down and laid on his bed, staring at the ceiling.

"But there's something about that Jeff. If only I could...oh great, now I'm talking to myself," he laughed and reached over to turn on his radio.

Get over it...
