"Um, quick question?" Zac said. "Just how closely are we related?"
"Not too close thank God!" Annie said. "Let me see…" she scanned the page. "Like, 20th Generation. No big deal. I’m pretty sure we can still date. Can’t we?"
"Sure. I mean, everyone is distantly related, right?"
"Right?"
Annie and Zac pretended to know what they were talking about, but in truth, they had absolutely no idea. They were clueless.
"Hey!" Annie exclaimed a moment later.
"What?" Zac demanded.
"You’re a witch."
"Duh."
"No! Male witches are like, impossible to find! They’re so rare that witches usually have to marry humans. And in both of our families together, there are 5 male witches. It must be all the human blood."
"I can’t believe you know all this," Zac said. "All this time I’ve known you and I had no idea that you knew so much about this stuff."
Annie looked at the floor. "Well, I read a lot," she stated simply.
"Let’s try to find that Tina chick in the phone book. It does say she’s from Oklahoma, right?"
"Yeah. Let’s just hope she knows she’s a witch!" Annie said.
So they got out the phone book and began making calls.
"Hello. You don’t know me, but is this Tina Harman, daughter of Jayne and Andrew?"
"Yes," the woman said. "And who is this?"
"My name is Annie Schumacher," Annie said. "You’re probably not gonna believe anything I say, but bear with me. I’ve been having a very strange week. Now, please don’t hang up on me. This is not a prank call. See, last week my boyfriend was changed into a vampire, so I kinda went to the chick who made him and made her make me one. So now I’m a vampire, too. Anyway, this crazy vampire chick kidnapped my best friend and it turns out I’m a witch and I was looking through my family tree book and it says that your one of my distant cousins and I was hoping you knew you were a witch, too."
"Well," Tina said. "That’s some story."
"You don’t believe me, do you?" Annie said sadly.
"Could you come over to my house today?" Tina asked.
"Yes," Annie said excitedly. "When?"
"Anytime. 20 minutes would be good."
"We’ll be there!"
"Goodbye, see you soon."
"Bye."
"So?" Zac asked eagerly.
"Let’s go, we’re gonna go meet her."
"Um, you’re not driving are you?" he asked carefully.
Annie shot him a dirty look. Zac shut up.
"Ok," Isaac said. "A park."
"How about Ebba?" Taylor asked.
"Yeah…that’s near the science museum," Isaac said.
"Which has a parking garage!"
"Let’s go!"
‘Jen?’ Taylor thought.
‘Yeah?’
‘We’re heading over to the science museum,’ he informed her. ‘We think that you may be in that garage. Its right across the street from Ebba Park.’
‘Ok,’ she thought. ‘have you talked to Annie and Zac?’
‘No,’ Taylor said.
‘I will,’ Jennifer said.
‘Ok.’
‘Annie? Zac?’ she thought.
‘Yeah?’ they answered together.
‘Ike and Tay think I may be in the science museum garage,’ Jennifer told them. ‘They’re checking it out.’
‘Ok,’ Annie said.
‘We’re heading over to someone’s house. She may be able to help us. We’ll tell you all about it later,’ Zac said. He didn’t wanna shock her with news of her best friend and boyfriends family all being witches.
‘Ok,’ she said. ‘Talk to you later.’
