Chapter 21

Jez and Morgeade left the safe-house and headed back to Tulsa on their motorcycles. Meanwhile, Annie and Zac watched them leave from the porch.

"So what’s the plan?" Zac asked Annie.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"Oh, come on! We’re not going to just let them go and leave us here! Jen is in trouble!"

"We steal one of their cars," Annie said.

Zac just stared at her in disbelief. Perfect, honest Annie stealing a car? This was new!

"Wait! How are we gonna get the keys?" Zac asked,

"Who needs keys?" Annie asked. "I’m gonna hot-wire it."

Zac’s jaw dropped. Annie could hot-wire a car?!?

"Let’s go," Annie said.

"Go where?" Iliana asked, coming outside.

"Oh, we were just going to go for a walk around the property," Annie lied.

"Ok," Iliana said. "Just be back soon. We don’t want anything to happen to you."

"Ok," Annie said, smiling at her.

As soon as Iliana was back in the house, Annie and Zac headed over to the garage. There was a nice variety of cars.

"Let’s take the yellow VW Bug," Zac said.

"No," Annie said, looking around. "We need something that blends in."

"Ok," Zac said, the disappointment showing.

"Here," Annie said. "This one." She was standing next to a dark blue car that was old but in good condition.

They hopped in, hot-wired the car and revved up the engine.

"Annie," Zac said. "One thing, you don’t have your license…"

She hit the gas petal hard. "YET!!!" Zac yelled. He immediately pulled on his seat belt.

"Keller, why are you doing this?!?" Jennifer demanded, fighting against the chains.

Keller smirked. "Why do you think?" she demanded. "You’re little friend Annie didn’t hold up her end of the bargain, therefore, I will be helping her along."

"Then why didn’t you just kill me? Or make me a vampire?" Jennifer asked.

"Too easy," Keller said non-coherently. "You annoy me. I want to make you suffer."

Jennifer just stared at her in horror.

"No, one thing I could do is…I don’t know, make you a vampire and then drive a wooden stake through your chest. Not your heart of course, that would be way to easy. I want you to suffer." Keller grinned wickedly at Jennifer. As Keller began to advance on her, she felt her hope diminish and she couldn’t help but let the tears come.

"Taylor, what’s wrong?" Isaac asked. "You don’t have to cry about it!"

"Isaac, I’m not crying," Taylor said.

"What? Have you gone crazy?" Ike said. "I see the tears. It’s not that bad! We’ll find her."

"Ike. I’m not crying," Taylor insisted. He paused. "Jennifer is."
