As Annie sunk to the ground gasping for breath Keller leaned back against her tree. "Well," she said, grinning. "Look’s like she’s gonna die, unless…"
"Unless what?" Jennifer demanded, tears streaming down her cheeks as Taylor held her.
"Unless she drinks some vampire blood…" Keller trailed off. "Now, I’m not gonna give it to her, hmm…do you know of any vampires who can help her?"
"You bitch!" Jennifer screamed. "How could you?!? How could you?!?"
"She asked for it, Jennifer," Keller answered coldly, mocking her.
"You’ll pay," Isaac said slowly.
"No, I believe *you* will pay," Keller said, showing off her bloody teeth. Isaac had to look away. "Buh-bye!"
And she left. She turned and walked away. No one had the guts to face her. Taylor loosened his grip on Jennifer and she ran to Annie’s side.
"Oh, my God!" she exclaimed, her hands flying to her mouth. Annie was pale and unconscious.
"Let’s get her home," Taylor said.
Isaac lifted her up and carried her home. "At least she doesn’t weigh much," he said.
"Oh, my God!" Zac exclaimed when they carried Annie into the house. They had made him stay home because they were afraid that he would be tempted to feed off of someone while out looking. "What the hell happened?" he exclaimed.
"Keller got her," Taylor said sadly.
"We’ve got to help her!" Zac said.
"The only way to help her is to give her some vampire blood," Jennifer whispered slowly.
"Then get the hell away from her!" he exclaimed. "I’m giving her mine!"
"Zac! You don’t know what you’re doing!" Isaac said, getting between Zac and Annie.
"Yeah, I do," Zac replied, looking Isaac straight in the eye. "I’m saving my girlfriends life."
Isaac couldn’t argue with that. He stepped out of the way.
"Come on," he said, and led Jennifer and Taylor out of the room.
"Oh, Annie," Zac whispered when they were gone. "I’m so sorry. This wasn’t supposed to happen!" He closed his eyes for a moment, then bit his wrist. He carefully squeezed the blood into her mouth. He wasn’t sure how much she would need, until her eyes fluttered open.
"Annie!" he exclaimed, on the verge of crying tears of happiness.
"Zac?" she whispered.
"Yeah."
"I don’t feel so good…I’ve got a major headache and everything looks…I don’t know, different."
"You’re a vampire, hun," he said.
"What?" she asked, genuinely confused.
"We’ll talk about it later," he told her. "For now, just sleep."
She obeyed and closed her eyes. Zac just sat there watching her. Before he knew it, he was curled up next to her on the couch, not sleeping, but enjoying her company.
"Um, Zac?" Taylor said nervously, coming into the room.
"Hmm?" he asked, he had been sleeping and was now awake.
"There’s someone here to see you."
"Oh, send ‘em in," he told Taylor.
Taylor, Isaac, and Jennifer entered the room with two other people. A boy and a girl. The boy was tall with dark black hair and unnatural green eyes. He was beautiful. The girl had a thick flowing main of red curls that fell perfectly around her round face and accented her steel blue eyes. They both looked dangerous.
"Who are you?" Zac asked.
"Jez and Morgeade?" Annie asked, sitting up. "Am I dreaming?"
"No, you’re not," Jez said coldly.
"Who are you?" Zac repeated.
"I’m Jez Redfern, and this is my soulmate Morgeade," the girl said. "I’m a vampire hunter."
"A vampire hunter?" Zac asked. Ike, Tay, and Jen stayed quiet so Zac assumed that they already knew this.
"Yes. I work with a group called Circle Daybreak. Our purpose is to unite Vampires, Witches, Shapeshifters, and Werewolves with Humans. Live happily together," Jez said.
"Wait," Annie said, standing up. "You mean to tell me that the Night World exists?"
"Basically, yeah," Morgeade answered.
"Wow," she whispered.
"And you are now a part of it," he said.
"Well, what are you? Witches? Or Shapeshifters? Or humans like us…like we were?" Zac asked.
"Well, it’s not that simple," Jez said. "Morgeade here is a vampire. I on the other hand am…well I’m half human, half vampire."
"How is that possible?" Zac asked.
"Her mother was human and father was a vampire," Annie answered.
Zac glanced over at Annie, surprised that she seemed to be enjoying this.
"Well, why are you here?" he asked.
"It seems that we have a vampire running around terrorizing people," Jez answered.
"Keller?" Zac said.
"Yeah, that’s her," Morgeade said.
"Well, what do you want with us?"
"Well, as you know, you’re not human anymore," Jez said. "So Circle Daybreak needs you to come with us."
"We can’t," Zac said. "Our lives are here."
"Maybe you don’t understand, Zac," Jez said. "You’re a vampire now! You don’t belong with the humans!"
"She’s right, Zac," Annie said quietly. "We’re not human. We don’t belong here."
"You think we should go with them?" Zac demanded.
"Well," Annie said. "We don’t have much of a choice. We’re not exactly legal vampires."
"Legal?"
"The Night World committee doesn’t know about us."
"Zac, one way or the other, someone from the Night World will find you," Morgeade said.
"Yeah but, I can’t just leave! My home and family are here! And everywhere I go people will recognize me anyway!"
"That’s true…" Morgeade said.
"At least come meet the people at Circle Daybreak," Jez said.
"Ok," Annie said excitedly.
