Prologue
Rachel stared at the building the address written on the paper. Her thoughts drifted back to the first time she had ever met Kevin. They had been eight at the time. Rachel had been flown from California to Kentucky to spend the summer with her aunt. That’s where she had met him. He lived down the street from her aunt. They became fast friends. She quickly learned of his father’s summer camp and she and Kevin spent countless hours there. It was at that camp that she first discovered her love for dance. When she and Kevin were ten, they performed in the camp’s talent show for the first time. Kevin had sung Wind Beneath My Wings and Rachel choreographed a dance for the song. That song and dance had always been a favorite of theirs. As they got older, Rachel changed the dance to make it more challenging. Rachel recalled the summer that she had been without Kevin. She had unpacked and raced over to his house only to find that he had moved to Orlando. The following summer she didn’t even bother going to Kentucky. She had almost given up hope of seeing him again when he called to inform her of his father’s cancer. She flew down for the funeral. At the funeral, Kevin and Brian sang Wind Beneath My Wings while Rachel danced. That had been the last time she saw Kevin. It hurt her to remember him that way. So upset and angry at the world. She sighed and pulled open the door to the building.
