One LIfe to Live

Chapter Six

Claiming that they needed showers, the guys all disappeared into their hotel rooms. Kevin invited Randi to come watch television in his room while he cleaned up. Curious to see how the famous lived, Randi followed Kevin into his room.

Whoa, she thought, taking in the immaculate bedroom. No socks thrown around, no unmade bed, no suitcase. The only sign of anyone living in the room was a book on the nightstand and a jacket folded neatly over the back of a chair.

Kevin was opening drawers and pulling out clothes. Randi went and sat on the edge of the bed and watched him.

"How long are you guys supposed to be in Pittsburgh?" Randi asked, trying to get a conversation going. Silence bothered her right now.

"One more day. We're leaving early Friday morning" Kevin replied, heading for the bathroom. "Make yourself comfortable. Watch some TV. Order something to eat. Whatever. Okay?" he asked. Kevin didn't want to leave her if she really needed him.

"Okay" Randi replied, smiling a little at his obvious concern for her. He really was a sweetheart. Too bad he wouldn't be around long enough to get to know him. As soon as Kevin closed the door to the bathroom behind him, Randi got up to turn on the TV.

Kevin was relieved to hear the TV. At least she was trying to distract herself. Kevin stripped and climbed into the shower. A hot shower always cleared his thoughts and soothed him. And right about now, he could use a little time to think. Poor Randi. To loose both her parents in one day. And the guilt she must be feeling! Thinking that if they hadn't been coming to visit her, they'd still be alive.

Kevin's thoughts wandered from there. Thinking about a song he was writing the music for, to the concert tonight. Remember to invite Randi, he mentally wrote down on his things to do list. Back to thinking about Randi, he thought wryly. Something about her... She's got those great violet eyes and that silky, layered black hair. She had great facial structure, too. But her looks really weren't the issue. She needed a friend emotionally, so Kevin knew he'd put his attraction to her aside.

Randi was staring blankly at whatever the TV had on when Kevin stepped out of the bathroom. "Hey, Randi?" he asked hesitantly.

"Huh?" she started, sitting up to look at Kevin.

"Did you want to get a shower or anything?" Kevin asked.

Randi looked down at her tank top and cutoffs and noticed that her outfit was kinda rumpled and smelly. "Yeah, I'd like to get a shower" she admitted. "But, I kinda don't have anything to change into..." she trailed off.

"I'll go bug Howie and Nick. I'm sure their sisters have left something behind with us at some point in time" Kevin laughed. "Now, shoo. Get in the shower. Extra towels and stuff are in there. I'll see what I can find and leave it on the bed for you. I'll be in one of the other guys rooms, okay?"

"Okay" Randi agreed, watching Kevin's tall, broad form retreat out into the hallway before heading into the shower herself
