Chapter Twenty
Nick thought it in his best interest to get out of sight. He quietly backed out of the room and laid on the floor with his head right near the open door.
"Randi, what's going on here? Who's the father of your baby?" Kevin demanded, standing up.
"What if I said it's none of your damn business?" she snapped.
"I don't believe you" Kevin said quietly, advancing on her. Randi took a step back. As he continued to walk towards her, she continued stepping back until she backed herself into the corner of the room. "Tell me the truth, Randi. Are you pregnant with my child?"
Randi glared up at Kevin. "What makes you think it's yours?" she countered. "If I slept with you, I might have slept with another man, too."
"You're not like that, Randi" he said quietly.
"Well I slept with you, didn't I?"
"Randi, stop changing the subject. I asked you a question and I'd like to get an answer" Kevin said, looking straight into Randi's violet eyes. The same eyes that had haunted him for 6 months.
Randi spread her hands protectively over her belly. Looking down at her stomach, tears sprang into her eyes. "She's yours" Randi finally admitted, squeezing her eyes shut. Her baby was no longer hers alone anymore.
Kevin could feel a joy unlike any feeling he'd ever known before begin to spread through his body.
"Oh, Randi" he whispered as he gathered her in his arms.
Slowly, Randi's arms crept around Kevin's strong back as she returned the hug. "You're not mad at me, are you Kevin?" she asked softly.
Kevin pulled away slightly. "Now, why would I be mad at you? I love you, Miranda Carey, and I want to have this baby more than anything in this world right now." He watched a smile begin to spread across Randi's face.
"You really mean that?" she asked.
"Yeah, I do."
At that, Randi and Kevin's audience broke out clapping. They sprang apart guiltily and looked from each other to Nick, who had quietly motioned everyone into the room to listen. Nick just shrugged his shoulders and grinned happily, which brought matching grins to everyone else's faces. Everyone hugged Randi and congratulated her and Kevin on the baby. Randi looked in confusion as a woman came up to hug her and whisper, "Welcome to the family, Randi."
"Who are you?" Randi asked as everyone laughed.
"This here is my girlfriend" Brian said, wrapping his arms around Stephanie from behind. She turned her face sideways and tipped it up to receive a kiss from him.
"Ahh. The infamous Stephanie" Randi remembered.
"That's me!" Stephanie grinned. "Now if I remember right, you guys have a bunch of little kids waiting for you!" The guys scrambled for the door and went running down the hall. "I love it when they do that!" she grinned at Randi.
"I think I could get very used to watching their rear ends running down the halls" Randi admitted as she and Stephanie followed the guys at a slower pace, following the sound of screaming girl fans.
