Chapter fifteen
Those first few weeks after Randi had walked out on him were some of the hardest Kevin could remember. He was trying to get over someone that…. well, someone he'd begun falling in love with. He could have sworn that she felt the same way. But Kevin knew that she'd been through so much that he could have imagined it. But he still wished she'd have talked to him about it. Said something to him. Told him how she was feeling. Considered his feelings when making the decision to leave. Not even willing to give Kevin the chance to persuade her to give him a chance. But now she was gone. For good. Kevin had no idea where she lived. When he'd checked the phone book, he'd found 25 M. Carey's. He'd called every one of them, but none of them was a Miranda. A discouraged Kevin left Pittsburgh the next day. And he'd missed Randi ever since.
It had now been 6 months since that day. It was two weeks before Christmas. And now they were going back to Pittsburgh for a concert and a Christmas charity benefit at one of the local hospitals. Kevin couldn't help but to get his hopes up. So now he was sitting in the front of the bus with Mac, the bus driver as the buses drove along the interstate. "How much longer, Mac?" he asked.
Mac sighed. For the past 6 hours, unfailingly, Kevin had asked that question at least twice an hour. "About 45 minutes, Kevin. Why don't you in the back and do something with the guys?" he asked in an attempt to get rid of Kevin.
"Nah, I want to see the skyline" Kevin lied. Yeah, right, Kev, Mac thought. It all has to do with that chick you met the last time we were here.
Meanwhile, Kevin was thinking. Is it too much to hope she'll try to contact me? Should I leave a backstage pass with her name at the security desk? Definitely, he decided. Settling down further in his seat, Kevin waited to see the sign telling him he was in the city limits of Pittsburgh.
