Chapter Fourteen
Before he had even opened his eyes, Kevin smiled and reached out for Randi. Not encountering anything solid but the bed, he frowned and opened his eyes. Not, seeing Randi, he quickly got out of bed to check the bathroom, the floor on other side of the bed, the closet. She wasn't anywhere. Kevin was beginning to panic when he saw the piece of folded paper on the bed. Maybe she just went to get something to eat. Quickly he opened the paper and read it. Halfway through it, he groaned and sat down on the bed heavily. Hoping he hadn't just read what he had, he began to read it from the beginning. Kevin, I hope you'll understand. I couldn't stay. Yeah, I really like you. But we met at the wrong time in my life. I have enough to handle as it is. Thank you for all that you gave me-your time, your patience, your understanding words of wisdom. Your love. Please don't feel that I just used you and left. But knowing that nothing more could come out of this than a one-night stand made me realize I had to go. Please, please, please try to understand. With all my love, Randi.
Kevin stared at that piece of paper for what seemed eternity. Someone knocking at the door snapped him out of it. Opening the door, he found Howie, Nick, Brian and AJ with worried looks on their faces.
"What?" he snapped when their looks changed to one of shock.
"Uh, Kev, we have that postponed radio interview in half an hour and it's gonna take us that long to get there" Brian ventured.
"Plus, man, you don't have any threads on" AJ said with a look of disgust.
Kevin cursed. "Give me 5 minutes" he said before slamming the door.
"Wonder what his problem is?" Nick wondered out loud as they sat down in the hallway.
"Did anyone see Randi?" Howie asked.
"Shit! I bet that's what the problem is!" AJ exclaimed.
"What is?" Nick asked, confused.
"Sometimes, Nick, your blondness blinds me" AJ muttered.
"Shut up!" Nick told him. "Now what's Kev's problem?"
"I bet Randi left in the middle of the night" Brian said.
Nick's mouth dropped open. Just then Kevin's door opened. He appeared wearing jeans and an old T-shirt. "Let's go" he said, already halfway down the hall.
"Don't say a word" Howie cautioned as they quickly sped after him.
