Chapter 13

(December 2, 2001, 2 days before tour starts)

Katlyn finished brushing her hair and smoothed out her flower embroidered black knee length dress.

Laura knocked on the door. “Kate? Scott just got here.”

“Tell him I’ll be out in a minute.” She finished putting on her makeup.

Katlyn had invited Scott, a guy from a few of her classes, to the tour starting party.

She walked out into their living room. “Hi Scott.” She tried not be to obvious when she checked him out. He was dressed in a pair of nice slacks and a blue dress shirt, which had the first couple of buttons open. He stood about six feet, two inches tall, had brown spiked hair and brown eyes and was well built.

“Hey Katlyn. Wow, you look really nice.” Scott smiled.

Minutes later, they, along with Jackie, Laura, and their dates, got into their limo and drove to the club the party was being held at.

When they first arrived, the fans were quiet and gave Katlyn weird looks when she walked in with Scott. Once inside, the group walked around. Scott had his arm around Katlyn the entire time they were walking. Soon, they were all dancing.

During one of the fast songs, JC walked down from the upper level of the club and walked over to where Katlyn and Scott were dancing, Scott trying to move closer to grind into her. “Kate, can I talk to you for a sec?”

Katlyn looked up and nodded, walking away with him. “What’s up?”

“Who is that guy?” JC asked in a brotherly tone.

“He’s a guy from school, why?”

“Justin has been freaking out since you walked in with him.”

“Why does he care so much?”

JC shook his head. “I don’t know.”

Katlyn nodded her head and started to walk away. “Great party by the way.”

Hours later the party was still going strong. Katlyn was slow dancing with Scott.

Justin watched from up above, taking another gulp of his beer. He had been watching their every move the entire night.

Katlyn had her head on Scott’s shoulder. She looked up and saw Justin watching her. She quickly turned her head.

“Do you really have to go? I want to get to know you better.” Scott whispered.

“Yeah, I do.”

“I don’t see why girls pay to go see a bunch of gay guys dance around.”

Katlyn pulled away. “They’re not gay!”

“So you’re a fan too?”

“I was, but now I’m a friend.”

“You’re their friend?….Were you that girl in the news who was dating that one guy?”

“My dad helps manage them, this is my third tour with them...and yes, that was me.”

“Why did you guys break up? Was it because he was gay?”

Katlyn frowned at him. “No, we just had some....problems.”

“Problems? What, he didn’t give you any?”

“No.” Katlyn looked away from him.

“He wasn’t good in bed?” Scott let out a little laugh.

Katlyn looked back at him. “No, it had NOTHING to do with sex.”

“Ok, sorry.”

It was quiet for a few seconds.

Scott finally broke the silence. “So you’re friends with the gay guys.” He laughed.

Katlyn pulled away again. “They’re NOT gay.”

“Ok, ok.” Scott laughed. “Why don’t we go and get something to drink?”

Katlyn nodded her head and walked with him to the bar. They sat down and Scott stared at her. “What?” She asked uncomfortably.

“Nothing, it was just cute watching you get so worked up over them.”

“Well they have become close friends and I stand up for them.”

“I could see that.”

“So, are you ever going to tell me why you and that guy broke up? What is his name by the way?”

“His name is Justin, and no.”

“Wasn’t it hard being in the public eye? When we walked in, all of those fans outside knew who you were.”

Katlyn looked down at her cup. “It was at first, but it wasn’t too bad.”

Scott suddenly leaned down and kissed her, deepening it almost immediately.

Justin jumped up, knocking his chair over, and ran down and over to where they were sitting. He pulled Scott away from Katlyn.

“Can I help you?” Scott said angrily looking at Justin.

“Yes you can...STAY AWAY FROM HER!” Justin yelled.

“Who the hell do you think you are?!”

“I’m her boyfriend!!” Justin yelled pushing Scott.

Scott turned to Katlyn. “What is he talking about?”

Katlyn shook her head and turned to Justin. “I’m not your girlfriend anymore, Justin. We BROKE up! Now leave me alone!”

“Oh! You’re Justin!” Scott laughed. “Wow, what a loss.” He put his arm around Katlyn. “You must have really screwed up...but, I got her now, so I guess that’s a good thing.”

As soon as Scott turned his around, Justin tackled him to the ground.

“JUSTIN! STOP!!” Katlyn screamed.

They continued to roll around on the floor. Katlyn grabbed one of Justin’s arms, but he was much stronger then she was, so he pulled it back. JC suddenly appeared and pulled Justin off of Scott, holding him back. Katlyn stepped up and grabbed Scott’s arms, standing in front of him.

“We’re leaving.” Scott ordered pulling Katlyn with him.

“Katlyn! Don’t leave with him!” Justin yelled.

Katlyn walked out the door with Scott, not turning around.

Justin fell to the floor. “I lost her.”

JC knelt down next to him. “Justin, you’ve caused a big enough scene...get up.”

Justin brushed him off. “And why should I listen to you?”

“Because I’m your friend.” JC tried pulling Justin up.

“A friend?” Justin stood up. “A friend who screwed MY girlfriend.”

JC shook his head. “Justin, Jennifer told you that to piss you off...Katlyn loved you, she wouldn’t do that to you...I’m your friend, I wouldn’t do that to you.”

Justin walked away. “Fine.”

Katlyn parked in front of Justin’s house and sat in the car. She took a deep breath and stepped out of the car, walking up to the gate. She pushed the code in and walked up to his door.

She pushed the doorbell and waited for him to answer.

Justin swung open the door holding a bag of ice on his cheek. “Katlyn?”

“Can we talk?” Katlyn asked.

Justin opened the door wider and stepped aside. “Yeah.”

Katlyn stepped inside and followed Justin to the living room. They sat down.

“Katlyn-“ Justin started.

“Wait...let me talk first...why did you have to start a fight?”

“He kissed you!”

“Yes he did, but I can handle myself. How am I supposed to start a normal life?”

“A normal life?” Justin asked. “What do you mean?”

“A life away from NSYNC. Do you think I want to be known as Justin Timberlake’s girlfriend or Ex-girlfriend for the rest of my life?”

Justin eyed her carefully and then looked down. “I’m guessing no.”

“That’s right. I don’t want people walking up to me asking for stuff, or asking about you...I don’t want photographers and reporters following me around. I’m tired of it!”

Justin looked back up at her. “So that’s it? We’re over?”

“We’ve been over for a few months now.”

“So why’d you bring that guy? To make me jealous?”

Katlyn shook her head. “He was a guy from school...I was trying to move on.”

“So everything that happened between us...”

“Is done.” Katlyn said simply.

“What about you and JC?”

“That was a lie. We’re friends. Nothing has happened or will happen between us.”

“So after everything that has happened between us...we’re over?”

“Yes. We...are...over.”

Justin looked up at her. “Then get out.”

“What?” Katlyn asked not expecting that.

“Get out.”

Katlyn stood up. “Fine. I thought you would be more mature about this.”

Justin watched her walk out the door and listened to her drive away.
