“Well, right after moving here, my dad had a meeting at Jive. So, I went with him. While he was in the meeting, I heard a bunch of guys talking, so I poked my head out and saw three of them walking, one of them was Justin. But at first I didn’t believe it. So a couple minutes later I decided to look for the ‘bathroom’ and ended up bumping into Justin. We talked a little but he had a meeting…the same one as my dad. Then, since Johnny and my dad had to talk afterwards, Johnny made Justin give me a tour of Orlando. And then after that we just hung out.” Katlyn explained.
“And you’re mom doesn’t like him?”
“She just hates him and the other guys because they’re celebrities. For some reason or another, she doesn’t want me being friends with them.”
“That sucks!”
“Yes it does. I hate doing all this behind her back. I want to be able to tell her.”
“What does your dad think about-“ Jackie started but was cut off by a opening and slamming of the door.
“Katlyn!” She recognized as Justin.
She jumped off the bed to greet him. Just as she was about to kiss him, he stepped back.
“Where were you?” Justin asked somewhat angry.
“What do you mean?” Katlyn asked nervous. She had never seen Justin so upset.
“Why weren’t you at the sound check or the concert? You didn’t even tell me you wouldn’t be there!” Justin said trying to keep his voice normal.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t think you would be so upset over it.” Katlyn explained.
“Um…I’ll talk to you later Katlyn. Night.” Jackie said quickly leaving the room.
“Night.” Katlyn said to Jackie as she left. She turned back to look at Justin who was just starring at her.
“Justin, I’m sorry. I didn’t know me being there meant so much to you.”
Justin didn’t even open his mouth. He just kept starting at her.
“Justin? Say something.” Katlyn said worried.
“Why should I? You don’t seem to want to talk to me.” Justin said looking into her eyes.
“I’m sorry. I should have said something.”
“You’ve done the same thing for a month. You would watch our sound check in the third row. Come back stage with us while we got ready, and then you would watch the concert from the VIP area. But you didn’t do that today.”
Katlyn took a step closer and wrapped her arms around him. She kissed his neck and then kissed his check and then put her head on his shoulder and hugged him tightly. Justin didn’t move, he didn’t even put his arms around her like he usually did.
“I’m sorry, Justin.” She said softly.
His still sweaty, tense body didn’t move. “It was our one month anniversary today. I didn’t even see you.”
She kissed his neck again. “I know. I’m sorry Justin. I’m so sorry.”
He finally relaxed a little and put his arms around her waist, resting his head on top of hers, and kissing the side of her head.
“I was worried.” Justin finally said.
“About what?”
“I thought something happened to you. I’ve been so use to the routine, when you weren’t there I assumed the worst.” Justin said with the worry in his voice coming back.
“I’m so sorry Justin.” Katlyn said lifting her head up from his shoulder and looking into his eyes.
“Don’t do that again.” Justin said leaning into kiss her.
Just as there lips met, the door opened.
“Ahem.” Her dad said looking at the two.
They quickly pulled apart.
“Oh...um...sorry, about....this...I’ll be leaving now. Night.” Justin stuttered.
Chris smiled warmly. “Night.”
“Good Night, Justin.” Katlyn said blushing.
(Next day)
Justin looked down at Katlyn and smiled. She was sitting in the third row, watching as the guys got ready to start sound check. He watched as Jackie ran up to her and they chatted, but mostly he noticed the way Katlyn smiled. She was completely over the move, and if she wasn’t, she was a damn good actress.
“Kate, the frame is ready today.” Jackie reminded.
“What time is it?”
“It’s almost four thirty.”
Katlyn turned to her dad. “Dad. I’ll be back soon. I have to go pick something up.”
Chris nodded his head. “Ok, just make sure you come back. I don’t want Justin asking me questions every five minutes.
Justin turned back around expecting to see Katlyn, but she wasn’t there. He looked around for her, but she was no where.
“Not again.” He said to himself.
“Justin, what’s wrong?” Lance asked, seeing the sad look on Justin’s face.
Justin turned to face him. “Um...nothing. Let’s start.”
An hour and a half later Katlyn and Jackie came back. Jackie went looking for her mom, and Katlyn went looking for Justin.
She walked in the dressing room expecting to see him, but he wasn’t there. So, she moved on to the N SYNC ‘toy room’. Walking in she saw Chris and Lance playing pool, Joey was playing video games, JC was sleeping on one of the couches, and there sat Justin starring off into space. She sat down next to him.
“Is this going to be a habit?” Justin asked starring blankly at the wall.
“I know you’re probably mad again, but this time I have a VERY good reason.” Katlyn said turning more with a big smile across her face.
Justin finally turned to look at her. “Really? A reason, huh? Lets hear it.”
Katlyn smiled at him. She couldn’t help but think how cute he looked. He was wearing a pair of lose fitting jeans, a gray wife beater, and a gray bandana that held back his wild curls, and then there was the pout on his face.
She held up the neatly wrapped gift. “I had to pick something up.”
He looked down at the box in her hands. “What is it?”
“While I was out yesterday, I had something made. So, I had to pick it up today. Open it.” Katlyn said sitting Indian style on the couch facing Justin.
Justin turned more with a smile on his face as he looked at the box. Katlyn held the present out for him. He grabbed it, looked at it, then looked up at Katlyn.
“Open it!” Katlyn insisted.
Justin smiled and looked back down at the present as he concentrated on opening it. He moved aside the tissue paper and saw it. The silver frame with “I’ll be good for you” engraved in it. Inside the frame, was a picture of the two of them that had been taken about a week ago at one of the stops. Katlyn was standing in front of Justin, with his arms around her waist and her arms covering his. His head was resting on her shoulder and leaning against her head, and they both had a large smile on their faces.
Justin looked up at Katlyn with a smile on his face. “This is beautiful.”
Katlyn leaned over and gave him a quick kiss. “I’m sorry. I should have told you.”
“No, I shouldn’t have overreacted.” Justin kissed her again. “I almost forgot though.” He pulled out a little black velvet box and handed it to her.
She took the box in her hands and just starred at it.
“It won’t open its self.” Justin laughed.
Katlyn smiled and opened it. Inside was a silver ring with little diamonds around it.
“Justin.” She said in a whisper. “It’s beautiful.”
“Look in the inside.” Justin said. Katlyn did as told and looked inside the ring. It read ‘Justin loves Katlyn.’
Katlyn was almost in tears. Justin took the ring out of her fingers and placed it on one of her fingers, and then held on to her hand.
“I love you Katlyn.” Justin whispered.
A tear escaped Katlyn’s eye and Justin kissed it away. “I didn’t mean to make you cry.” Justin whispered.
Katlyn wrapped her arms tightly around Justin’s neck and kissed his cheek. Justin’s arms wrapped around Katlyn’s waist and held her tightly.
“I love you too.” She whispered.
Justin and Katlyn both smiled at the sound of that.
