Summary: Love, blood, and Ares. Just your average A/J.
Part 1/15
Zeus had been calling his volatile son for almost an hour. Off and on, anyway.
So now there he was, making a 'personal appearance' in Ares' main temple in
Sparta. The War God's last known location. Exasperated by having to make this
effort the King of the Gods looked around. Finally, his eyes fell on a carefully
folded piece of parchment sitting squarely on Ares' throne. He picked it up,
read it, read it again, and finally tried reading it out loud to see if it would
say anything different this time.
"Hi Dad, Suppose you've finally come looking for me. You wont find me! I'm out
of time, out of sight, out your hair and out of that shit job you dumped me
with. I'll be back when and if I get back. Hey, you could always get your
beloved son or equally beloved daughter to fill in...that covers everyone else
in the family, sans Discord of course. But that's your nightmare, not mine. See
you around maybe. Love Ares (?)" Zeus tried it again. The message didn't change,
but what did he mean 'love Ares' question mark? Did he think he wasn't loved?
That he didn't love Zeus? That it wasn't really Ares' note...he was a prisoner
somewhere?
While Zeus was freaking out in his own little way Ares was just arriving in the
small cabin he had kept just for this situation. The best part was that no one
would ever think to look for the former war god in the home of the least of his
warriors.
With a sigh he quickly set about preparing everything for the next couple of
weeks, for once he was going to let the other Gods see how difficult life was
for the God of War. He smiled a genuine smile as he imagined the look on his
fathers’ face.
For the first time, Ares God of War was going to relax and take a vacation while
he considered the way to get his father to agree to his plans. He knew it would
be difficult but Ares was not going to let Zeus win this time.
*****
“Now that everyone is here, I can announce that Ares has disappeared. This is
the note I found in his temple, I can’t believe he is acting so irresponsibly
but he’s never thought about others. While he is gone we need someone to replace
him so I’m appointing Hercules as Acting God of War.” Zeus said to the Gods and
Goddesses assembled in the main room of his temple. Zeus disappeared from the
room in a flash of sparks causing everyone to leave, each one considering how
they could use the information to their own advantage.
Hera seethed as she recognised his husbands actions for what they were an
attempt at making Hercules a God. He hadn’t even considered the fact that Ares
could be in danger or hurt. No all that Old Goat wanted was to help his precious
demi-God. Well then, she would do everything in her power to find Ares.
Aphrodite wondered why it was she had the job of informing her half-brother that
he was going to become the next God of War. She suspected it was because Zeus
knew that Hercules would be upset to say the least.
“Hey Herc, Studmuffin, oh and you too Joxie. Zeus said that you’ve got to be the
acting God of War ‘cause Ares has disappeared. Until he returns you have to
assume his duties, I’ll take you to the temple.” Aphrodite said her voice
deceptively calm and happy.
The four reappeared in the main room of the War temple in Sparta. The priests
already, informed of the situation by Ares, had all left in support of their
God. The deserted temple looked lonely. While everyone else searched for
bedrooms, Joxer slipped away into a hidden doorway.
Taking a small metal key from his pocket, Joxer opened the door and walked
inside the one place he felt safe. The room was so like his friend, despite what
people thought Ares was not all about war and death. He didn’t even like black
all that much but kept it for appearances sake. The bedroom was like the true
Ares, decorated in a mixture of greens and creams.
When Aphrodite appeared in the clearing and told them that Ares had vanished
Joxer felt his heart stop. He knew that Ares was probably safe, hence his reason
for looking for clues in their bedroom. With a cry of triumph, Joxer picked up a
piece of paper waiting on the pillow.
Jox,
Don’t worry, I’m safe. It’s all part of my plan. I’ve given up my sword but not
for long. If I don’t claim it in four weeks the sword will be lost to the world
forever. Of course I didn’t tell daddy dearest that, he’s probably already got
Hercules as War.
Yours Eternally,
A.
Joxer put down the letter and changed shedding his clothes in favour of his
traditional brown pants and green shirt. As he changed Joxer remembered when he
had first met Ares, Gods he had been such a naïve child.
Taking a deep breath, Joxer walked out of the room pausing to lock the door
before meeting the stares of amazement (Aphrodite), confusion (Iolaus) and anger
(Hercules). He wasn’t going to hide his relationship with Ares but he wasn’t
going to use it to bribe Ares into returning.
“How did you get in there, Joxie? I can’t even get in there.” Aphrodite said her
voice angry.
“I’ve got a key.” Joxer replied not explaining any further.
“Someone, explain what’s happening?” Iolaus asked as Hercules still looked at
Joxer with an open mouth.
“Joxer has a key to Ares’ private chambers meaning that he is intimate with
Ares. How long?” Aphrodite said curiosity eating at her.
“I’ve known Ares since I was fourteen. We became friends when I returned
something he had lost.” Joxer replied smiling at the memory of finding the
litter of black and white kittens. He had returned them to Ares who had been
overjoyed and secretly worried that someone would discover that he wasn’t as bad
as everyone thought.
“Ares doesn’t know how to be someone’s friend!” Hercules shouted, hitting a
nearby table in anger and breaking it in two.
Joxer simply raised an eyebrow, he had seen far worse temper tantrums and wasn’t
the least bit impressed with Hercules. Did he really think he could force Joxer
into believing him? No one was going to turn him against Ares-and that included
annoying do-gooders.
“Listen to me Hercules, you don’t know a thing about Ares or about me. I’ve had
enough of your attitude, when are you going to realise that Ares isn’t a
monster. Some people who would say the same of you. Just because you don’t
understand people doesn’t give you the right to act so sanctimonious.” Joxer
said giving a small smile before continuing, “If you don’t stop attacking Ares,
I’m going to lose my temper and you really don’t want me to do that.”
Hercules, Iolaus and Aphrodite all stared at him in shock. They had never seen
Joxer so angry but each one was positive that he couldn’t support his threat,
feeling that Joxer had no skills and had survived this long on luck alone.
“Joxer, I know what I’m talking about. I grew up with Ares, if anyone should
know what he’s like its me.” Hercules said smirking in triumph.
“Believe me, you don’t know Ares anymore than you know me. I’m leaving, there
are a million other places I’d prefer to be than with you.” Joxer said as he
walked out the room head held high, the key still in his pocket. There was no
way he was going to let anyone into Ares’ private rooms, it would be a betrayal
of the worst kind.
“Dite, was he telling the truth when he said he didn’t know where Ares was?”
Iolaus asked, there was something about the way Joxer was acting that bothered
him.
“Yeah, but aren’t you going to keep an eye on him?” Aphrodite answered,
surprised that the heroes were going to ignore someone who always seemed to be
in trouble.
“There’s no need to-he always lands on his feet.” Iolaus replied, knowing it was
true he was amazed at the number of times Joxer was saved from dying at the last
second.
*******
Joxer took a quick look around and certain that no one was watching, touched the
necklace he kept hidden inside his shirt. It was his link to Ares, neither one
knew why it existed just that it did.
Joxer sent
the thought to Ares, smiling when he felt Ares’ amusement through their bond.
Ares said quickly, the reply
entering Joxer’s mind.
Oh yeah, Joxer remembered their little trips to the house, whenever they had
enough of their family they would go there, sometimes alone but most of the time
together. It was the best place in the world to hide mainly because it was
protected from being seen or felt by any Greek Gods unless they had his
permission. The only one he had allowed to know about it was Ares, and even then
it was only after he had known the God for a couple of years.
Joxer replied, taking a quick look around. He didn’t want anyone finding him
before he had the chance to get to Ares and safety.
*********
From his temple, Cupid was watched as Joxer disappeared from the road, he tried
following the mortal only to find it was as if Joxer had disappeared
completely-the man wasn’t on the mortal plane nor on Olympus. The power
signature when Joxer disappeared was that of a God but not one he recognised.
Cupid was certain that Joxer knew where his father was, Joxer was the one person
Ares trusted and loved completely. He knew that there was something obvious he
was missing but he couldn’t figure out what.
*******
Ares was busy trying to some up with some way to make sure everything went
perfect but he knew that too much relied upon Hercules, he didn’t like to depend
on the Demi-God for anything.
Within a month everything would be perfect, he would have his Godhood and
hopefully his love at his side. If only he could be certain that everyone would
believe him once he revealed the truth about everything.
There was a golden flash and Joxer appeared, with a smile on his face. Ares
smiled in reply, it was so rare that the pair where able to talk to each other
without fear of someone discovering their relationship and using it against
someone.
“Want to tell me just why you disappeared?” Joxer asked as he sat down, placing
his sword in the stand in the corner of the room.
“I needed some time away from being war and I’ve got a plan I’m working on.”
Ares said with a smile.
“That doesn’t tell me a lot. I kind of freaked at Herc and Iolaus earlier.”
Joxer said absently as he tried to figure out the plan.
“Bet that went over well. You didn’t lose your temper did you?” Ares said,
imagining the look on his brother’s face, an angry Joxer was a beautiful sight.
“Nah, they’re still alive. Herc was being his usual self and tried to turn me
against you, like that’s ever going to happen.” Joxer replied, giggling when he
remembered how stunned Hercules had been when he had told the hero off.
“Yeah but they don’t know about us. How’s everything going back there?” Ares
said wanting to know so he could make sure his plan worked perfectly.
“Hercules is the new God of War. I locked your rooms and brought the key with
me. Aphrodite looked worried about something, probably you. Herc won’t be able
to handle the position as God of War, he doesn’t have the strength or the
knowledge to cope.” Joxer said, knowing that the move was going to bring Greece
to its knees.
“Yeah but daddy dearest will never figure that out. The plan is simple
really-I’m going to let them see how difficult my job is and hopefully get them
to agree to some changes.”
“Easier said than done, anything I can do to help?” Joxer said, wanting to do
everything in his power to help Ares.
“Your being here is help enough, love.” Ares said as pulled Joxer onto his lap,
kissing the other man passionately. It had been to long since they had seen each
other, having to make do with hurried kisses and hidden letters. But hopefully
that would all change, Ares thought to himself with a grin.
*******
Part 2/15
Joxer pushed Ares down onto the large bed, and taking a knife from his boots
started to cut away the annoying clothes. He loved the sight of Ares in leather
but wanted Ares naked and begging as soon as possible.
“Ares, quit teasing…” Joxer groaned as Ares sucked his nipple.
“As you wish, my love.” Ares said he reached for the small vial of oil, and
slicked up Joxer’s throbbing cock.
“I’m ready!” Ares said excitedly as he prepared himself with a thought, oil
gently falling from his puckered opening.
Ares quickly moved so that he was straddling the mortal, both groaning when
Joxer’s cock slid inside Ares’ heat. Joxer was lost in the feeling; his lover
was so tight and hot. Joxer gripped Ares’ hips urging the God to move. With a
loving look at the mortal Ares started bouncing on Joxer’s cock so that just the
tip was inside him before slamming his body back down, each thrust hitting that
spot inside him. Ares came with a snarl, biting down hard on the side of his
lovers’ neck, the contractions of his muscles pulling Joxer’s orgasm from him.
*********
“I need your help, Xena.” Hera said as she materialised just a few feet from the
Warrior Princesses camp. She didn’t particularly like the woman but knew that
Xena would be able to help find Ares.
“Hera, it’s not like you to ask for my help. What do you want me to do?” Xena
asked, suspiciously. The Gods normally didn’t ask for help from a mortal,
especially her.
“I need you to find my son, Ares. He has disappeared; Zeus has made Hercules the
acting God of War. The power is too much for Hercules, unless Ares returns
before a month passes Greece will be doomed.” Hera said, appealing to the woman,
she was worried that Ares could be hurt.
“I’ll help you but only because I don’t want Greece to be ruined or Hercules to
be hurt. Do you have any idea where he is?” Xena asked, mentally groaning when
she realised Gabrielle was waking up.
“His letter said he was out of time, there are few places a God can hide without
someone finding them. I can’t find his signature anywhere, it’s as if someone is
hiding him from me. I should warn you that Ares might be a prisoner.” Hera said
worriedly, seconds before she disappeared, feeling Zeus calling her.
“What did she want?” Gabrielle asked, getting the feeling that it must be
something big for the Queen of the Gods to ask for help.
“Ares is missing, unless we find him Greece will be ruined.” Xena said, not
wanting to go into the full story.
“I guess we’ll have to find him then, at least Joxer isn’t with us.” Gabrielle
said thankfully, the only thing worse than working for Hera to rescue Ares would
be spending time with Joxer.
“Did she say where we should start looking?” Gabrielle asked, knowing that it
would take months to search all of Greece.
“No but this’ll help.” Xena said as a map appeared in her hand.

Joxer jumped as he felt the familiar buzz of his father checking up on him. A
part of his mind wondered why Menthu wanted to speak to him now. Since the day,
he had discovered his father was the Egyptian God of War he had only seen his
father once, when he was ten.
“What’s wrong, Menthu?” Joxer said, as his father appeared in the room, looking
at Ares he wasn’t surprised to find his lover asleep.
“I just wanted to make sure you weren’t in any trouble.” Menthu said as he
looked at his errant son.
“Why are you bothering to think about me now? You’ve never helped me. I can take
care of myself.” Joxer spat out angrily, his father had never cared about him.
“I’ve always helped you, Joxer.” Menthu insisted.
“Oh yeah? Where were you when Jonas decided to use me as his fuck-toy? Or when
he let the warlord use me in return for following him.” Joxer said bitterly,
fighting to keep his voice quiet.
“I did mean to help but I got a little sidetracked.” Menthu said distractedly,
not really listening to what his son was saying.
“Just go, Menthu.” Joxer said quietly, making it clear that the conversation was
over.
Menthu winked out, wondering why his son hated him, why didn’t Joxer understand
that other things like duty came first? He ignored the small part of his mind
that insisted his first duty should be to his son.
“You okay?” Ares said as he tightened his grip on his shaking lover.
“Why does he do this? How am I supposed to cope with everything when he won’t
leave me alone?” Joxer said as he turned, nestling into Ares’ arms.
Ares said nothing as he held his sobbing lover tightly, he knew only to well how
cruel parents could be. As he soothingly rubbed Joxer’s chest, Ares vowed that
one day he would make everyone pay for hurting his love.
*****
Hercules stared at the hundreds of scrolls lying on the table in confusion. Why
was everyone coming to him? People were asking for his help, not only about war
but also for guidance in choosing their future. Throwing the nearby scroll
across the room in a fit of temper, he did the only thing he could think of.
“Discord, get down here now.” Hercules shouted angrily.
“What’s wrong now?” Discord asked she had only left Jerkules an hour ago.
“What am I supposed to do with these?” Hercules asked, gesturing, wildly with a
scroll.
“I thought that was obvious (!)” Discord said, as she watched Hercules and
wondered just how much more it would take to push the man over the edge.
“That’s it. I’m stopping all the wars, tell everyone.” Hercules said as he sat
down on the chair.
“You sure about that?” Discord asked, unable to believe how stupid he was being.
“I’m the God of War, just do what I say.” Hercules said arrogantly.
“If that’s what you want, I can see what Joxer was talking about now.” Discord
said as she flashed out the room, her laughter echoing in the large war room.
*******
Part 3/15
Cupid flashed out of the war temple, unable to believe what a disastrous job
Hercules was making of God of War. If someone didn’t knock some sense into him
soon, there would be no Greece to preside over.
He knew he was missing something about Joxer but he couldn’t figure out what.
Maybe he could figure out just why his father had disappeared. Cupid wasn’t
going to let Hercules ruin his plans. Many of his matches were the result of a
war, despite what people thought love did come from war.
Cupid in a fit of temper, started blasting the nearby wall, his father was
missing possibly a prisoner and no was cared. The only link he had to his father
was Joxer, who was somewhere outside Greece or in a foreign temple.
A flash of inspiration hit as he remembered Joxer’s travels. He knew that Joxer
spent a lot of his time with the annoying warrior princess. Maybe she would know
where he lived.
“Where’s Joxer?” Cupid asked the shocked woman, he didn’t have time for
pleasantries.
“What do you want with Joxer?” Xena asked, narrowing her eyes at the worried
Love God.
“I figured that since he and dad are dating then he might know where dad is ”
Cupid replied, he would have thought that was obvious.
“Ares and Joxer!?” Xena exclaimed in shock gaping at Cupid.
“Oops, I guess you didn’t know about them.” Cupid said with a sheepish smile,
when his father was going to be more than a little mad at him now.
“But Ares and Joxer!” Xena exclaimed once again, causing Cupid to slap
her-something, he had wanted to do for a while.
“They love each other, get over it. Tell anyone, and I’ll make you pay.” Cupid
giving her a cruel grin worthy of his father as he flashed out of the clearing.
*****
“Love, you going to tell me a little more about the plan?” Joxer asked as his
tears subsided.
“I’m going to make them see just how hard my job is, maybe then they will leave
to work in peace. The most important part of the plan is getting them to let us
marry.” Ares said as he ran his hands through Joxer’s hair.
“Don’t think there’s much chance of that. The decree is still in place and
there’s no way they will make an exception for me.” Joxer said sighing.
“Either they make an exception or I’m not going back.” Ares promised
passionately.
“You can’t do that, if you don’t take your sword back war will run unchecked and
then everyone will suffer.” Joxer said, compassionately. He loved Ares with all
his heart but there was no way he could make the world suffer simply because he
wanted to get married, he wasn’t worth it.
“You’re worth it, Jox.” Ares said as he held his love tighter, hearing thoughts
running through his lovers mind.
“I suppose there’s no way I can talk you out of it” Joxer asked, seeing Ares
glare at him, he continued, “Well, I suppose I better help you plan this then.
Maybe I should go back and keep an eye on Hercules..?”
“NO! Stay here with me, where you’re safe.” Ares insisted, his protective
instincts going into overdrive.
“Calm down, `Res. It was only a suggestion, unless one of us goes out of here
occasionally we’re never going to know what’s happening.” Joxer said logically.
“We’ll get to that later. I figured that within a couple of days or weeks,
depending on how bad he is Hercules will have done something stupid like just
cancelling war. If he does that then they’ll all be begging for me to help.
Although Eris and Strife understand a little of war, they don’t know enough to
take on the responsibility. Athena will probably try and take over the job, but
she doesn’t understand the more basic reasons and impulses behind war.” Ares
said, wearily, although he liked his job, sometimes the burden was too much for
him to bear alone.
“Don’t worry, you’re not alone now.” Joxer said, remembering how lonely his
lover had been for the majority of his life.
“I’ll never be alone, you love burns inside my heart.” Ares whispered, lovingly.
Joxer turned and kissed Ares gently, he loved the way Ares felt secure enough to
show this side of him. He felt honoured and humbled at the love and conviction
Ares had for him. Joxer always worried that he wouldn’t be able to meet Ares’
view of him but thankfully that hadn’t happened-yet.
*******
“I think I messed up, bad.” Cupid said as he flashed into his Olympian home,
where Strife was busy looking over the events of the previous day before Ares
disappeared.
“Nah, ya don’t mess up, I do.” Strife said as he hugged his cousin, Cupid’s pain
and worry clearly visible at least to him.
“I told Xena about dad and Jox. I thought she already knew but she didn’t.
Grandmother has her looking for dad.” Cupid said as he flopped down on the chair
dejectedly.
“Don’t worry, cuz..” Strife said as he gently pulled his cousin into a hug.
“Strife, look!” Cupid shouted, watching the mirror avidly.
Strife turned and the pair watched in amazed silence as Ares argued with someone
or something he couldn’t see. It was clear he was arguing from the look on his
face, they’d been on the receiving end of that glare far to often.
There was a flash of light as Ares vanished from the temple, in a flash of red
sparks. Cupid threw a nearby pot across the room as the mirror went black, at
his request to show where Ares had gone. Ares was arguing with something before
he disappeared, did that mean Ares was kidnapped?
*****
Hera arched her eyebrow in shock, Cupid and Strife had never come to see her at
the same time. What was wrong now?
“We might know what’s happened to Unc’.” Strife said, seeing that Cupid was too
busy buzzing with excess energy.
“Tell me.” Hera said as she gestured for everyone to sit down, having the
feeling that the talk might take a while.
Strife explained that he had spent the day watching the events of the previous
day before Ares disappeared. As he got to the important part, Cupid jumped up
and blurted, “We think dad was kidnapped.”
“That’s a serious charge, who do you think took him?” Hera asked, remaining
outwardly calm even as she panicked over what her son could he going through.
“We don’t know, he was arguing with someone or something and no one was there.”
Strife said, grinning at Cupid’s excitement and eagerness.
“Where there any strange power signatures?” Hera asked, thinking quickly.
“We don’t know, we came right here.” Cupid said, with an apologetic grin.
Hera quickly brought up the image for herself and stilled it at the exact moment
of her son’s argument. As she sent out her awareness, a frown formed on her
face, causing the two gods to look at each other in worry-they had never seen
that expression on Hera’s face.
“There is a power signature but its not one I can identify. I know its from one
of the foreign pantheons but not which one. It they have kidnapped Ares then
this is a declaration of war.” Hera said with a deadly smile, if someone had
taken her child, they would pay for it in blood.
*******
Part 4/15
Iolaus looked at Hercules in shock, this was no longer his friend. Granted
Hercules had always been a little arrogant but he was now consumed by the power,
it had started to destroy him.
“Herc, maybe you should speak to some of the other Gods.” Iolaus suggested, not
liking the God Hercules was becoming, his friend seemed to no longer care about
the effects of his actions or about the mortal world.
“I don’t need anyone’s help. I’m the God of War, I know what I’m doing.”
Hercules replied smugly turning his back on his friend.
Iolaus returned to his room, wondering what was going to happen now, without
help Hercules couldn’t survive as War. Iolaus was sure that Herc would end up
either destroying every piece of goodness inside him or tearing Greece apart.
“Athena, I think its you I should pray to, Hercules needs help and guidance. He
can’t be the God of War unless he has help and he won’t listen to me. Zeus if
you’re listening, please try and make him listen and see what he’s doing.”
Iolaus said quietly, hoping that one of the Gods would do as he asked.
********
“All hear me. The foreign Gods have committed an Act of War, they have kidnapped
my son, Ares.” Hera said, her voice echoing throughout all Olympus.
For a few minutes, there was complete silence, then one by one the Gods and
Goddesses flashed into the room demanding an explanation
“Silence!” Zeus shouted, shocking everyone. As he looked at the assembled Gods
Zeus was surprised to see that Hercules was there. He would have thought that
Hercules would have wanted to help in the event of such a crisis.
“Who has kidnapped Ares?” Discord asked, anger flooding her body. No one would
hurt he brother, the only family that cared for her and get away with it.
“I need you all to examine the images from when Ares disappeared, he was arguing
with a foreign God just before he disappeared. The power signature when he left
was his own but he looked worried.” Hera said, knowing that her son didn’t worry
lightly, she had only seen Ares worried once.
Everyone watched the images in silence, knowing that this would decided their
fate. If a foreign pantheon had decided to wage war, they would defend
themselves with all their abilities.
“The power signature is Egyptian, but I do not know which God.” Hecate said
seriously, she had the most contact with foreign Gods.
“If Ares is not returned before a week passes, we will got to war.” Zeus said,
knowing that if Ares had been taken-a major God then they were all at risk.
******
Xena looked back at Gabrielle who was muttering under her breath, something that
sounded like a complaint. Not surprising seeing how they were on a mission to
help Ares. She knew that Gabrielle hated Ares and everything the God stood for
but Ares was needed. That was the only reason they were trying to find him.
“Why did you disappear earlier?” Gabrielle asked curiously.
“Cupid came to ask if I had found any sign of Ares.” Xena said, the memory of
Cupid’s threat burning in her mind.
“That’s sweet of him, it’s hard to believe that Cupid could be so nice with Ares
as a father, I guess that’s Aphrodite’s influence.” Gabrielle said, with a hazy
smile.
The two women stopped at the sound of footsteps nearby, readying their weapons
they waited. Their grip tightened as they recognised the man. What was he doing
here?
“What are you doing here, Auto?” Gabrielle asked suspicious.
“Joxer has disappeared, I thought you might have an idea of where he is.” Auto
replied with a wry smile, he actually liked the man plus there was the little
matter of the promise he had made to Jett to keep an eye on Joxer.
“We haven’t seen him.” Xena said, wondering if she should ask for his help.
“He’s supposed to have a house three days away. I’ve never heard of the place
but his brother said to check there.” Auto said as he went to continue down the
road.
“Wait, Auto we’ll come with you. With Joxer you never know what trouble he’s got
into.” Xena said, wanting to see if Ares was with Joxer.
Gabrielle stared at Xena as if the warrior princess was insane; this was Joxer
they were talking about. Why would they want to help him? Knowing the man he had
probably just gotten lost.
“Gabrielle, he’s our friend and it’s on our way.” Xena whispered, seeing the
disbelief on the Amazon’s face.
The three continued down the road, Gabrielle walking slightly behind sulking.
Auto and Xena ignored the bard, used to her behaviour, and talked quietly about
what had happened since they had seen each other. Each one curiosity as to what
the other was hiding, knowing they where being kept in the dark about something.
*****
Joxer and Ares where in the small training ground sparing, wanting to keep their
skills up to date. Joxer was a match for Ares, he had always been able to fight
but had hidden it; not wanting the notoriety and pain being a warlord would
bring. He had spent years learning how to hide his abilities just in case
someone found out just how his real father was.
The pair fought quickly, neither gaining nor losing ground. As they fought, the
pair smiled and joked. Ares was always surprised at Joxer’s skill-for years he
had assumed that Joxer had no fighting skills until the day that Joxer had
fought and killed two bandits who had tried to take the necklace that was their
link.
The necklaces was another strange story, Joxer had found them buried in a cave
when he was fifteen. He had immediately took a liking to them and had given one
to Ares as a gift. From the moment the pair had put on the necklaces their was a
connection between their mind. Each one was able to telepathically communicate
with the other as long as they were both wearing the necklace.
“You know, one of us is going to have to go out before the month ends. We can’t
stay cooped up in here-if we don’t how will we know what’s going on.” Joxer said
calmly, he knew that he would have to be the one to venture outside. As soon as
Ares left the grounds of the house, he would be instantly detected by one of the
other gods.
“I know that but I don’t want you to get hurt. What if Zeus figures out that
we’re together?” Ares said lowly, he didn’t think he could cope if Joxer got
hurt because of him.
“No one knows about us, well maybe Cupid and he wouldn’t tell anyone. As far as
everyone knows you barely know I exist, it’ll be okay and I’ll only go into
town-that’ll only take a couple of hours. I can defend myself quite well, maybe
not against Zeus but I should be okay.” Joxer said, pushing Ares’ sword to the
floor and dropping his own.
“I know you can fight, you’re probably almost as good as me but I’m allowed to
worry.” Ares said as he took Joxer’s hand in his.
“Yeah, but you’re going a little overboard.” Joxer said good naturedly, he was
used to Ares’ attitude by now.
“Want to get a bath?” Ares asked as they walked inside the house.
“That’d be wonderful.” Joxer said he loved the feeling of water caressing his
skin.
Ares waved his hand and a large bathtub filled with sandalwood oil appeared, the
stream gently flowing into the air. He undressed slowly, watching Joxer’s eyes
darken in desire.
He stepped inside the water and turned to watch Joxer who was teasingly slow in
removing his clothes. Wanting, needing to feel Joxer’s skin against his own he
wished the clothes away and pulled his love into the water.
Joxer lay back against Ares and sighed contentedly, he wished they could spend
more time like this. The time they had together was often only a few hidden days
or weeks if they were lucky but he wouldn’t give Ares up for anything.
“It’s been too long since we were able to do this, just be together without
having to worry about someone catching us. I wish we could be like this all the
time.” Ares said into Joxer’s ear.
“If this plan works then we will be. You still haven’t told me an awful lot you
know.” Joxer said, with a grin.
“Basically, I’m going to force Zeus to let us get married. I know some of the
other will approve but I’m not taking any chances.” Ares said thoughtfully, it
was too important to him to take any unnecessary risks.
“Just like that (?)” Joxer said sarcastically, Ares was always one for using as
few words as possible.
“Maybe not, but as much as daddy dearest hates to admit it he needs me.” Ares
said with a grin.
Looking down at Joxer, Ares saw that the man was close to falling asleep. The
day had been emotionally tough for both of them. Flashing them into the bedroom,
he gently placed Joxer on the bed, and slipped inside the covers, pulling the
sheets around them as he moved so that he was holding Joxer.
“Night Res, love you.” Joxer said, tiredly as he closed his eyes.
“Love you too, Jox. Sleep well.” Ares said with a grin, he knew Joxer would hear
him. Closing his eyes, the god surrendered to sleep, knowing that he would meet
Joxer there.

Part 5/15
Ares looked around the house for any sign of his lover, he had awoken just
seconds before to find his lover gone. Ares quickly dressed himself and jumped
out of bed, maybe Joxer was outside? Finding the grounds empty, Ares let put a
groan of frustration-if something happened he wouldn’t know, his powers
restricted to inside the house’s boundaries.
Joxer’s voice echoed in Ares’ mind sounding a little
distracted.
Ares replied,
angrily.
Joxer retorted sounding a little
exasperated.
Ares sent the thought worry
flooding his voice.
Joxer
replied, ending the conversation.

At the same time Xena, Gabrielle and Auto were just entering the town, intending
on getting supplies for their long journey. They split up, Auto going to case a
local temple on the off chance that there was something valuable there.
Gabrielle went searching for ink and parchments, insisting that their new
mission could resulting a great story. The actual reason why she had left Xena
was that her friend had yelled at her over the way she was behaving about
helping find Joxer. Gabrielle had always felt that Joxer was below her and
undeserving of her attention and it showed.
Xena headed straight for the blacksmith, Argo was in need of new shoes, or else
she would go lame. As Xena turned the corner, she noticed a familiar figure
talking to one of the war priests. At first it appeared to be Joxer, but the
way the man carried himself reminded her more of Jett, not to mention the
clothes. What was Jett doing out of prison? Xena asked herself, if it was
connected to Joxer’s disappearance..?
******
Joxer smiled in greeting at the war priest, he hadn’t seen his old friend in
years. Taking the man’s arm in the traditional greeting of warriors, Joxer
brought up the reason why he was in town.
“Jolis, its good to see you again. What is the latest news?” Joxer said with an
engaging smile.
“You to, Jox. Ares is missing, apparently some foreign Gods kidnapped him. A
proclamation appeared in all the temples saying that unless Ares is returned
before a week passes we got to war.” Jolis said gravely.
“Who is the God of War until Ares returns?” Joxer asked, not wanting to give
away his prior knowledge.
“Hercules is the Acting God of War. He has stopped all the wars, whole armies
are standing around not knowing what to do. The people are confused, Hercules
does not understand war or the people.” Jolis said sadly.
“We can only pray that Ares returns safe. Goodbye friend.” Joxer said, walking
off to get some more supplies.
“May the Gods watch over you, young one.” Jolis said before disappearing in a
flash of sparks.
*****
An hour later, Joxer was ready to leave the small town. His bags were loaded
with supplies and he had the information he needed. He was sure that Ares would
be more than a little upset when he heard that the Greek Gods were going to war
over his disappearance.
As Joxer walked down the road, he was sure that someone was watching him. he
continued walking, taking covert looks behind him but there was no one to be
seen. Joxer whistled cheerfully as he walked, keeping his eyes open just in
case.
As he walked Joxer thought over the plan, Ares was a little reluctant to tell
him everything and that worried him. Ares only kept him in the dark when there
was a chance the God could get hurt, the God just didn’t like to see him worry.
“Give me all you’re money or I’m going to kill you.” A man said as he walked out
from behind the trees, ten men with him.
Joxer wasn’t surprised, it was just his luck to be ambushed. This time he could
fight back without the worry of someone seeing him. The bandits had definitely
picked the wrong man this time.
“I’d like to see you try.” Joxer drawled, pulling his sword from its sheath.
“I love it when they put up a fight.” The leader sneered, drawing his own sword
and moving towards Joxer.
As the man stepped in front of him, Joxer quickly brought is sword up and
started fighting furiously. There was the loud clash of mental on mental as the
swords met, Joxer quickly pulled his sword down making a quick jab into the
man’s stomach. The bandit fell to the floor with a groan.
“Any of you want to stop me from continuing my journey?” Joxer asked the shocked
bandits who were staring at their leader in disbelief.
The men quickly ran the other way, one stopping to pick up their fallen leader.
A move that surprised him-few bandits he’d seen had actually stopped to help a
fallen comrade.
Joxer continued on his way, wiping the sword clean. As he walked, Joxer prayed
that the man would heal. He hated killing, oh sure he had killed but that didn’t
mean he liked it. Joxer knew that it was sometimes a case of you or them.
******
The house came into view, he always called it a house although Ares argued it
was a cabin. To both of them it was a home and a sanctuary from the world and
their families. He walked faster wanting to get back to Ares and tell his love
what he had discovered.
“I’m home, everything okay?” Joxer said cheerfully as he walked inside.
Ares didn’t reply as he pulled Joxer into a kiss that let the man know just how
much Ares had missed him and worried about him. Joxer let himself get lost in
the kiss, but pulled away knowing they needed to talk about what was happening
on Olympus.
“The Pantheon decided that you’ve been kidnapped by Egyptian gods. Any idea why
they would think that?” Joxer asked, wondering if it had anything to do with
him.
“Menthu came to see me a couple of minutes before I came here. He said that he
wanted you to see him and that I was to make sure you talked to him. We argued,
I told him I’d never let him near you again but I guess I failed.” Ares said,
hugging Joxer.
“You didn’t fail, love. There was nothing you could have said to him, he seems
to think being my father means that he has some sort of hold of me. He may be
father by blood but that’s all he is. Remember when I told you about how Jonas
loaned me out to the warlords?” Joxer said, seeing Ares nod he continued, “He
said that he knew but was to busy to help me. I was raped for years and he was
too busy to help! He has no right to demand anything from me.” Joxer concluded,
his voice rising in anger.
“Its okay love, I won’t let anything happen to you again.” Ares said as he
rubbed small circles on Joxer’s back.
“I know.” Joxer said, taking Ares’ hand in his and leading the God out to the
training grounds.
******
The couple, were contentedly lying on the ground, happy to just lie around doing
nothing. So much of their time was spent working, that moments when they could
just lounge around were treasured.
Joxer smiled as Ares started to slowly undress him, kissing his way down Joxer’s
neck. Joxer arched into the touch, he had always been sensitive there. With
trembling hands, Joxer grabbed the bottom of Ares’ top and pulled it over the
God’s head, running his hands over every inch of Ares’ skin he could reach.
Joxer wriggled out of his pants as Ares caressed his aching cock through the
loincloth. Joxer responded by holding on tighter to Ares-he knew that he wasn’t
going to be able to control himself much longer. Control flew out of his mind
when he felt Ares engulf his cock, instinctively he thrust up into the hot
mouth. Joxer stiffened as he felt the tell tale burning inside him, seconds
later he came with a snarl of “Ares!” The God continued to suck Joxer’s cock,
milking it completely. The lovers were so caught up in the haze of desire that
they failed to notice the three people staring at them in a mix of confusion,
disgust, and wonder.
“What’s going on?” Gabrielle asked in confusion.
Auto smirked as he said, “I thought that was obvious (!)”
Xena coughed loudly, seeing the pair weren’t going to break apart anytime soon.
The pair stood and looked at the three with unbelieving eyes. Joxer reached for
his sword as he tried to push Ares behind him, forgetting he was naked in his
haste to protect his lover. Ares ignored the glare Joxer sent him as he moved to
stand beside the man, there was no way he was going to let Joxer face a threat
without his help. As an afterthought, he waved his hands and dressed them both
in soft leather pants and red shirts.
“What are you doing here?” Joxer asked, he was surprised anyone knew about the
house. He had told all his family that he lived two days north of his true home
as a precaution.
“Jett, what have you done with Joxer?” Xena spat out the question at the same
time wondering how she was going to break the news to Joxer that Ares was
cheating on him with his brother.
“I’m Joxer not Jett.” Joxer replied giving them his trademark goofy grin.
“Joxer what are you doing with Ares?” Gabrielle asked, hoping that it was all a
figment of her imagination.
“Well, until you interrupted I was having a good time with my lover.” Joxer
replied with a snarl.
Ares grinned, he loved a good fight, and it looked like his Joxer was in the
mood to deliver.
“Hera asked us to find you, she said that you had been kidnapped.” Xena said
looking at Ares, ignoring the glare Joxer was giving Gabrielle.
“I’m just having a little vacation.” Ares replied with a smirk.
“Well thanks to you, Greece is about to be destroyed.” Xena said angrily.
“I won’t let that happen. You really shouldn’t have come here, now we’re going
to have to put up with you until our vacation is over.” Ares said, with a smile.
Finally, he would have the chance to teach Blondie a lesson.
Ares replied almost whining.
Joxer said with a smile.
Ares flexed his power and threw the three against the wall, knocking them out.
With a thought the chains from the bedroom appeared, passing one to Joxer he
quickly fastened them around Xena then Gabrielle, making the bard’s extra tight.
When he turned, Joxer had fastened them around Auto and was staring at him with
gleaming eyes.
“Ares, feel like a little exercise?” Joxer asked seductively as he sauntered
over to his lover.
Not give Ares the chance to reply, Joxer pushed the God up against the wall,
stripping the God of his clothes. Joxer quickly moved, kneeling in front of his
lover. Ever so slowly undoing the zipper, he smiled as Ares’ cock jutted out of
the material.
Running his tongue down the length, Joxer took the throbbing cock into his
mouth. He bobbed up and down, gently squeezing Ares’ balls at the same time. He
was addicted to the taste of his lover, loving the flavour that was uniquely
Ares. He grinned as Ares thrust into his mouth, whimpering and moaning. Feeling
Ares was about to come, Joxer reached up and squeezed his lover’s nipple hard.
Ares came with a loud moan, Joxer eagerly swallowed every drop, sucking until
his lover’s cock was limp. Letting the cock fall from his mouth, Joxer stood and
roughly pulled Ares into a kiss, letting the God taste himself.

Part 6/15
Hera sent out her awareness, her desperation changing to anger when she realised
Xena had also disappeared. Whoever had captured her son must have taken Xena,
Hera decided unable to remove the nagging doubt in her mind. Something didn’t
add up, namely just how the Egyptian Gods had managed to enter Greece without
detection.
It didn’t matter just how they had done it, all that mattered was Ares, and Hera
knew she hadn’t treated her son properly for years but she couldn’t help it.
Whenever she looked at him, Hera was reminded of all the shame and anger she had
endured. The feud between her and Zeus had spilled over onto Ares and Eris, both
of whom where outsiders within the family.
******
“Beloved, we need to do something with them.” Joxer said as he looked over at
the chained heroes.
“We can leave them here for a few days, I’ll even feed them.” Ares said with a
grin, he wanted nothing more than to let them suffer, he knew they deserved it,
after all they had hurt Joxer.
“So you two are together?” Auto asked, squirming to hide the bulge in his pants,
he had awoken to see Joxer hungrily sucking Ares’ cock.
“Way to state the obvious (!) We have been for a while.” Joxer replied resting
against Ares and looking at the thief, smirking when he saw the tent in Auto’s
pants.
“How can you be with someone so cold? He’s only using you to get to us.”
Gabrielle said condescendingly, keeping her eyes focused on Ares.
“Yeah right (!) The world doesn’t revolve around you, Blondie.” Ares spat out,
resisting the temptation to blast the bard to pieces.
“How about we go inside? It’s a little more comfortable.” Joxer said looking up
at Ares.
Ares smiled and with a wave of his hand, the five were in the main room. He
released Xena and Auto from their chains, but attached the bard’s chains to the
opposite wall. That way he could keep an eye on her.
“If you so much as think about hurting Joxer or trying to escape, I’ll chain you
up again.” Ares said smiling cruelly at the Xena and Auto, who where staring at
him in shock.
“Don’t worry, we won’t do anything.” Auto replied, he wasn’t that stupid. The
last thing he wanted was to anger the god.
Joxer smiled as he remembered the day he had met Ares. He had seen the God
before but not up close…...
Flashback
A teenage Joxer gently picked up the small litter of mewing kittens, he loved
animals but had never kept a pet. Joxer knew that Jonas would kill anything that
belonged to him. Turning over the coin on the first kitten’s collar, he was
surprised to see the words, “Ares, GOW”. He was amazed that Ares kept kittens,
he had always assumed the war god was cold and unfeeling.
Joxer walked down the road towards the temple, and waited. He knew that he
wouldn’t be able to get inside the temple until after nightfall. The priests
tended to treat him as a hindrance and a nuisance, the last thing he needed was
for Jonas to find out he had spent the day loitering outside the war temple.
Joxer walked inside the temple and looked around, the walls adorned with weapons
of all sizes and types. He wondered just why everyone left weapons at the war
god’s temple, surely Ares had enough of his own.
“Erm..Ares, I’ve found something that belongs to you. At least I think they’re
yours, I’ll just leave them here.” Joxer said feeling foolish as he placed the
litter of black and white kitten’s on the alter. He hoped that Ares found them
before the priests decided to sacrifice the kittens.
The air shimmered as Ares appeared in a flash of sparks, Joxer just stared at
the God in confusion. Why was Ares appearing before him, he had come to know
that he was undeserving of another’s attention.
“Thank you for returning them. What’s your name?” Ares asked as he looked at the
obviously shaken mortal.
“Joxer, my lord.” Joxer said, finally having regained the ability to speak,
feeling it would anger the god if he didn’t say something.
“I remember you now, you’re one of Jonas’ boys, right?” Ares questioned as he
sat down in the throne.
Joxer just gaped at the God, wondering how he was supposed to answer. He knew
that he wasn’t Jonas’ son but should he tell the God that. On the other hand,
would Ares be able to tell if he lied?
“Yes.” Joxer said, swallowing. The whole time praying Ares wouldn’t pick up his
lie.
Ares tried to probe the mortal’s mind, shocked to discover he couldn’t get
inside. This mortal was shielding his mind from a God. It was then that he
realised Joxer was no mere mortal. There was something different about the boy
but what he didn’t know.
“Thank you again Joxer, if there is anything I can do to repay you just call.”
Ares said, then closed his mouth, what was he doing? Being nice to a mortal was
against his image, he was Ares God of War he didn’t do nice.
Joxer just nodded his head and retreated from the temple. It was nice of Ares to
say that, Joxer thought to himself as he ran down the road. He would never call
on the God, he served not for what Ares could do for him but for what he could
do for Ares. As his family home came into view, Joxer slowed, knowing that he
would need all his wits to get inside without Jonas spotting him. If it anyone
discovered that he had been out this late, Jonas would be even more angry than
usual.
Joxer froze as a hand tightened around his throat, without looking, he knew who
that hand belonged to. Jonas must have been waiting for him, Joxer thought
before retreating inside himself as he heard Jonas roughly pull off his pants.

Joxer smiled at Ares in thanks as the God hugged him tighter, he had come to
accept and slowly recover from the abuse he had experienced but he didn’t want
anyone else to find out unless he told them himself.
******
Flashback
Joxer stiffened as he sensed someone watching him, giving no indication that
something was amiss, Joxer continued to clean the large training room. He moved
stiffly, his body protesting with each movement. He grimaced but continued,
there was nothing he could do but only pray, that Jonas wouldn’t be as rough
that night.
“Are you hurt?” Ares questioned as he appeared in the room, the mortal had only
left his temple the night before what had happened?
“No, my lord.” Joxer replied, ignoring the part of his mind that screamed for
him to tell Ares the truth, there was no point in telling anyone. Ares would
probably laugh and he couldn’t handle that.
Ares just looked at the mortal, unable to tell if the boy was lying. Something
in Joxer’s eyes that told the God that the boy was a kindred soul-who would
understand the pain that Ares endured each day.
“Come to my temple, in two hours.” Ares instructed Joxer, alarmed at the fear
then acceptance in Joxer’s eyes.
“If you wish my lord.” Joxer replied, fear flooding his body as he thought about
what would happen if Jonas discovered he was at the temple. Then he waved the
thought away, knowing that it didn’t matter if he discovered Joxer left, Jonas
would find some excuse, he always did.
As Ares flashed out of the room, Joxer quickly went to his room, tonight he
would leave. He had scrapped enough money to cope on the road for a little
while. A warlord who had been disgusted at the way Jonas loaned him out, had
given Joxer some money not much but enough for now.
Throwing his extra shirt and pants in a bag, Joxer looked around the room for
something to use for protection. Spying the old chest that had belonged to his
grandmother, Joxer opened it, seeing a dagger Joxer smiled and pocketed it.
With cautious steps, Joxer entered the temple, surprised to find Ares waiting
for him. He had assumed that Ares would have better things to do than wait
around for him. Sitting down at Ares’ feet, Joxer waited, placing his bag on the
floor next to him.
“You going somewhere, Joxer?” Ares asked, spying the bag, what was the boy
doing?
“I’m leaving, I felt it was time I go out on my own.” Joxer said injecting as
much cheer into his voice as possible.
“You know there’s something different about you? I can’t read your mind.” Ares
said startled to see Joxer stiffen, Ares continued, “If you’re leaving how about
having a farewell meal with me?”
“I would be honoured, my lord.” Joxer replied with a small smile. Just how much
had Ares figured out, his father had never said to keep his parentage a
secret-if there was anyone he should tell it was his God.
“You can call me Ares, Joxer.” Ares said gently as he made a meal of fish,
cheese, fruit and bread appear.
“Thank you Ares. How are you?” Joxer said, noting the shock on Ares’ face, he
wondered just how many friends Ares had.
“I’m okay Joxer, what about you?” Ares answered, making a jug of water appear.
“I’ll be better once I leave Corinth.” Joxer said seriously.
“You’re young for someone who’s going to be travelling Greece alone.” Ares
observed.
“I turned fourteen a couple of days ago.” Joxer said tersely.
“Sorry (!)” Ares replied sarcastically, amazed to discover he was actually
enjoying himself. Seeing the shock on Joxer’s face, Ares couldn’t help but burst
into laughter.

Part 7/15
Auto looked at the two seemingly oblivious men and wondered if he should make a
run for it there and then. He froze when Ares looked at him, as if the god could
read his every thought. Maybe I’ll just wait here for them to let me go, Auto
decided relaxing into the chair.
“I guess I should tell you about when we first got together.” Joxer said
thoughtfully, remembering Auto’s question earlier.
Ares questioned, knowing that the three couldn’t claim he
or Joxer where lying if they saw everything.
Joxer didn’t reply, just moved so that his head was bent and waited. He felt
Ares gently massage his temples as the God quickly went into his mind. Joxer
knew Ares couldn’t get into parts of his mind he wanted to keep secret but more
importantly he knew Ares wouldn’t do that to him.
Slowly an image formed in the middle of the room, shimmering slightly before
gaining form. The three heroes watched quietly knowing that they were seeing
inside Joxer’s mind, and discovering the truth about their friend.
********
Joxer took shelter in the nearby cave while the rain pattered loudly on the
floor. Lighting a small fire, Joxer huddled close trying to stop the shiver’s
wracking his body. He quickly lay out his bedroll, moving the earth until it was
a little more comfortable. As he worked, Joxer noticed the tell tale glint of
light on metal, daggering furiously Joxer looked at the bounty in shock.
It was a golden box, covered in a number of phrases and pictures. He could make
out a couple of the Greek words, namely “eternal” and “kindred”. Opening the
box, Joxer gently lifted out the necklaces. The first was a half a silver heart,
with the word joined engraved on the front. The second was the other half of the
heart with the word forever engraved on the front instead. He turned the two
necklaces over in his hands surprised at how light they felt.
Placing the necklaces in his pouch, Joxer buried the box feeling that the box
belonged there. Why he didn’t know but he had learnt to follow his instincts
since he had left Corinth. It was his birthday and here he was alone in a cave,
only he would manage to get trapped on today of all days.
“Hey, Jox.” Ares’ voice echoed in the cave just seconds before the god appeared
wearing a cream shirt and green pants.
“Hi Res. Want something to eat?” Joxer questioned as he fussed with his bag,
thankfully, he had caught a rabbit just before taking shelter.
“That’d be good. Sorry for not coming to see you for the last couple of months,
I had to organise a little war.” Ares replied as he sat down opposite Joxer a
smile on his face.
“Don’t worry about it. Anything I can help with?” Joxer said seriously, he was
willing to do anything to help Ares. He just hoped that the war god didn’t
notice his feelings; he didn’t think Ares would be too happy.
“Just keep out of it otherwise you might get hurt.” Ares said thoughtfully,
taking the meat Joxer held out for him.
“How come you’re spending your birthday in here?” Ares asked it didn’t feel
right that his friend was alone today of all days.
“Well, my best friend was a little preoccupied so I figured I’d spend the day
exploring. I got caught in the shower and this was the nearest place I could
find.” Joxer replied with a grin. He smiled at the shock in Ares face when the
god realised that Joxer considered him his best friend.
“I’ve got you a little present for your birthday, it’s not much but I thought
you would like it.” Ares said as he flashed his power and a box appeared in
front of Joxer.
“You didn’t have to Res, you’re friendship is more than enough.” Joxer said
fighting the tears that threatened to spill.
“Open it, Jox.” Ares urged wanting to know if Joxer liked the gift, he had spent
weeks deliberating over just what to get his friend.
Joxer carefully opened the present and gasped when he saw the gift. It was a
beautiful lyre; carefully Joxer strummed some of the strings and smiled hearing
the wonderful sound. He didn’t think anyone would ever remember his birthday;
the fact that Ares had and had given him such a wonderful gift was amazing.
“Its wonderful, Ares. I didn’t think anyone would even remember my birthday let
alone get me a present.” Joxer said tearfully, he had never felt so moved in his
life.
“I remembered you said you liked to play a couple of months ago, so I called in
a couple of favours. Apollo said that it is one of his best. Happy fifteenth
birthday, Joxer.” Ares said as he pulled his friend into a hug, shocked at how
good it felt to hold Joxer’s body against his.
“I was going to give you this on your birthday but it feels right to give you
this now.” Joxer said as he took the two necklaces from his leather pouch.
Joxer picked up the one marked forever and moving with an inborn grace, placed
the necklace around Ares’ neck. Shivering slightly at the tingle that flooded
his body as Ares took the other necklace and placed it over Joxer’s neck.
The two stared at each other, their faces just inches apart as they felt their
minds open up. Thoughts, feelings, and memories were exchanged quickly within
the blink of an eye the pair understood more about the other than they had other
thought possible.
Joxer moved his hand slowly to cup the God’s face, and gently kissed his god on
the mouth. As he felt Ares’ tongue move to beg for entrance to his mouth, Joxer
started. He pulled himself away from Ares, realising just what he was doing. How
could he kiss Ares without asking permission? Ares probably hated him now.
“Its okay, Joxer.” Ares said, feeling the turmoil inside Joxer’s mind. He could
read Joxer’s emotions most of all there was the feeling of anger and fear. Ares
hoped Joxer wasn’t afraid of him.
Ares reached out a hand to pull Joxer towards him. Taking the other man’s hand
in his Ares looked into Joxer’s eyes and swallowed at the love burning in them.
Ares had never believed someone could feel such love for him, his heart sang as
he realised Joxer returned his feelings.
“I love you, Joxer.” Ares said solemnly as he kissed the man, the second kiss
was nothing like the first. Their mouths met passionately, as their secret
desires were realised. As he kissed Joxer one thought ran through Ares’ mind,
that Joxer tasted like home.
“I love you too, Ares.” Joxer said as their lips broke apart, the couple smiled
stupidly at each other for a couple of minutes.
With a flash of Ares’ hand their surroundings changed to that of his quarters
inside his Spartan temple. He didn’t want to take Joxer to Olympus; he didn’t
trust his family not to hurt his love.
Joxer looked down at his clothes and realised they had changed; he was now
wearing soft brown leather pants and a red silk shirt. He settled back against
Ares, he didn’t want to just sleep with Ares. He wanted to take things slow, he
didn’t want to risk anything spoiling the love of his life.
“Joxer, tell me everything about you.” Ares said gently, his arms snaked around
Joxer’s waist.
******
Xena looked at the couple in shock, unable to believe Joxer had been involved
with Ares since he was fifteen and hadn’t told anyone. She had never thought
Joxer would be able to keep a secret for that long.
“I can’t believe you used him like that!” Gabrielle spat out; positive Ares was
using her dim-witted friend.
“Joxer, you’ve been dating Ares since you were fifteen. Why didn’t you tell us?”
Xena asked, suspecting she already knew the answer.
“You wouldn’t have believed me. I guess there are some other things I need to
tell you.” Joxer said reluctantly. He didn’t really want to reveal everything
but maybe if he told the truth Xena would help.
“I’m a demi-god, my father is the Egyptian god of war. His name is Menthu, we
don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things.” Joxer said, not wanting to reveal just
how much his father had failed him.
“If you’re a demi-god what are your powers?” Gabrielle asked scornfully,
ignoring the dangerous flash in Ares’ eyes.
“I can pick up anything after I’ve been shown a couple of times and I can
communicate with animals, not something most people care about.” Joxer replied,
remembering how disappointed Menthu had been when Joxer had revealed his gifts.
“Just what are the necklaces you wear?” Auto asked, his curiosity getting the
better of him. Two such beautiful necklaces would fetch quite a profit, maybe he
could relieve the couple of them.
“They allow us to speak telepathically to each other. We can talk to each other
and read the other’s emotions.” Joxer replied, smirking at the gleam in Auto’s
eyes. He knew Ares would kill the thief for trying to take such a prized
possession. Joxer on the other hand would probably just torture the man, death
would be too easy.
“If you guys have been together so long, why doesn’t anyone know?” Auto
questioned, he was shocked that the couple had been together for twelve years
and no one had discovered their relationship.
“We aren’t stupid despite, what everyone thinks. If anyone found out we are
together they would use it against us. Plus there’s the little matter of Zeus’
decree.” Joxer said patiently, he knew that he had to explain everything or they
wouldn’t understand.
“That’s one of the reasons why I’ve got into hiding. Zeus decreed that no God
can marry one of Menthu’s line. You see, Menthu and Zeus were both after the
same woman, Menthu won so Zeus hates anything that reminds him of his failure.”
Ares said angrily, that had happened over two centuries ago but Zeus refused to
forget and move on.
“So because of who you’re father is you can’t marry Ares?” Xena questioned,
feeling sympathy for her friend. She could see that the pair were in love, she
knew Ares loved Joxer from the fact that Ares was revealing so much and had been
with Joxer for so long. She had never thought she’d see the day that Ares defied
Zeus in the name of love.
“Yeah, that’s basically it. There’s no way Zeus will let it go, he too
pig-headed.” Joxer said sadly, it wasn’t like he even had any contact with his
father anyway.
“We’re going to make Zeus let us get married. If he doesn’t I won’t take up the
sword.” Ares said determinedly.
“If you don’t take up the sword, that’s it for Greece. Without you aggression,
hate and greed will overrun the world.” Xena said, her eyes glinting dangerously
just what did Ares think he was doing?
“I know that, but there’s no way I can carry on without Jox. This is the only
time I can actually give up the position, the Fates told me just when to act on
my plan. They didn’t say it would work, but they said when to use it.” Ares said
seriously, he could see the anger in the warrior princess’s face.
“I guess we better help you then, for the fate of the world.” Xena said with a
small smile, that wasn’t the reason why she was helping them and she knew it.
She was only helping because two people so in love didn’t deserve to live like
this.
*******
Part 8/15
Discord laughed as she watched Hercules struggle to understand the reports of
the generals. It wasn’t that difficult, at least not to anyone with half a
brain. The situation was simple, Greece was falling apart, armies where stranded
in confusion but the urgent issue was the starvation plaguing most of the
smaller cities.
Hercules had simply stopped all wars, not understand that war was needed or just
what an important role war played in the mortal word. That, Discord thought to
herself with a snarl was the reason why she was going to try to fix the problem.
Not that she had any idea where to start, oh sure she knew a little about war
but not enough to save Greece.
Ares had been taken leaving no clue as to just who held him prisoner. When she
found who was holding her brother, Discord vowed that she would make them pay
for taking one of the few members of her family she actually liked.
With a wave of her arm, Discord asked the mirror to look in on Cupid. She just
didn’t trust the love god with her son; she knew Cupid was more like Ares than
everyone thought. She might not get on with her son, but he was hers and no one
hurt someone she loved without paying for it.
She froze as she spied her son in the mirror, crying. What had Cupid done to her
boy now? Not bothering to think about the consequences, Discord flashed into
Cupid’s temple ready to make the love god pay.
“What have you done to my son, Cupid?” Discord hissed as she grabbed Cupid by
the collar and threw him against the nearest wall-hard.
“He ain’t done nothin’, I’m cryin’ cause I’m happy.” Strife said, as he quickly
ran to the shocked Cupid.
Discord gaped at her son in shock; her Strife was hugging Cupid who was hugging
her son back. Discord smiled at the look in her son’s eyes, she had never seen
him look so content. As she watched the thought came unbidden to her mind, that
Ares would freak when he found out the pair were now a couple.
“Ya alright Cupie?” Strife asked as he gently ran his hands over the other God’s
body, searching for any sign of injury.
“Yeah, but I think something’s wrong with your mom.” Cupid replied, seeing the
way Discord was laughing-he hadn’t seen the goddess so happy before-a happy
Discord was probably not a good thing.
“Nothing’s wrong with me. I’m just thinking about what Ares is going to say
about you two becoming a couple.” Discord replied showing the pair the image in
her mind.
The three broke into hysterical laughter, tinged with fear and worry over Ares.
As they calmed, Strife relaxed into Cupid’s embrace as the love god placed small
kisses against his neck. Discord took one look at the pair and decided it was
time to leave, before they forgot she was there.
Seconds after Discord flashed into the room, Strife smiled up at Cupid and
placed a kiss on the other God’s mouth. The kiss was intended to be light,
Strife knew that he had to go and see if Hera heard anything from Xena soon.
“I love ya, Cupid.” Strife said, as they broke apart, with a sappy smile on
their faces.
“Love you too, Strife.” Cupid returned giving his love one last hug before
flashing from the room, he still had his job to do.
Part 9/15
“Just what are you going to do?” Gabrielle asked, narrowing her eyes
suspiciously at the God.
Ares just rolled his eyes, they had already gone over the plan three times and
unsurprisingly, Blondie didn’t understand. He didn’t really care if the bard
understood anything about the plan, as far as he was concerned they could just
leave her at the cabin chained up.
“Xena is going to leave and request an audience with Discord. She’ll give my
conditions, if they are all met I’ll return and you can go about your little
life.” Ares said sounding bored, in truth he was a little impatient, he hated
waiting around. Normally he would be busy enjoying himself with Joxer but he
didn’t trust the heroes not to betray him.
(Its not going to be that easy, you know.) Joxer commented to Ares a wry smile
on his face.
(I know, but I’d rather not let them know anymore.) Ares replied as he absently
traced patterns on Joxer’s arm.
“What makes you so sure they won’t double cross you?” Auto asked, wondering if
the God had actually thought this plan through.
“My sister wouldn’t do that, and there are some of my family who will support
me. Even Zeus isn’t stupid enough to have the Houses of War and Love after him.”
Ares replied, remembering the way Zeus always went out of his way to keep on
Aphrodite’s good side.
“Like Discord is going to want anything to do with Xena. Its probably all part
of your plan to get Xena to work for you again.” Gabrielle stated, sneering at
Ares and Joxer.
Glaring at the bard, Ares snarled, “I wouldn’t risk Joxer just to get Xena back.
I’ve got more than enough problems already, without having to keep an eye on
her.”
“Keep an eye on me!?” Xena asked in confusion.
“Like I really want to worry about you losing it (!) I only bother you so much
so I can see Joxer.” Ares said, grinning at the shock on Xena’s face.
“But I was your best warlord, why don’t you want me back?” Xena asked in
outrage.
Ares smirked as he answered, “Actually your okay but not wonderful, if I really
wanted someone great to fight for me there are plenty of other people. Jox is a
far better fighter than you.”
“You have Joxer working for you?” Auto asked in shock, it was all a little too
much to take in.
Ares grinned as he said, “Only when I can’t avoid it, how did you think Jox
survived so long if he couldn’t fight?”
“I figured it was luck. Don’t you go around saving him then?” Auto asked, not
entirely believing Joxer was such a good fighter.
“I can’t be everywhere at once and I couldn’t risk it. If anyone found me using
my power to stop Joxer from dying they would know about us and that would be too
dangerous.” Ares said thoughtfully, he hated it whenever his lover wasn’t with
him.
“What do you mean too dangerous?” Gabrielle questioned, getting caught up in the
story despite herself.
“I have a lot of enemies, both Gods and mortals who would happily use Joxer as a
way to get at me. I can’t, won’t let Joxer die because someone had a score to
settle with me.” Ares said before looking away. He wasn’t used to baring his
soul to anyone apart from Joxer.
“When am I leaving?” Xena asked eagerly, she wanted everything to be over as
soon as possible.
“Tomorrow maybe. It seems that Jerkules has really messed up this time. We
shouldn’t really go to war with the Egyptian Pantheon-Gods are not supposed to
fit each other.” Joxer said thoughtfully. He just hoped everything worked out,
he didn’t think he would be able to cope if Ares was taken away from him.
“What will I tell Discord, to make sure she actually listens to me. We aren’t
exactly friends.” Xena said, knowing the Goddess would happily ignore her.
“Tell her Res needs Ris to help. She should listen to you then. Tell her I
haven’t been kidnapped and remind her of the decree, she should be able to
figure everything out then.” Ares said thoughtfully.
“Does anyone else know about you two, someone I can ask for help?” Xena said
hopefully, she couldn’t believe no one knew about the couple had been dating for
the last twelve years.
“You could ask Jett to help, he’d do it for me.” Joxer said with a smile, his
brothers might be a little different but they were loyal to each other.
“Erm..if you’re a demi-god then your bothers must be too.” Auto said paling at
the thought.
Joxer considered the statement and answered, “Yeah, Jett can push people a
little-make them do some things. Jace’s powers are a little more unusual-he has
multiple personalities-each one has their own power.”
“If you’re demi-gods why is Jett so….” Xena said not knowing how to continue.
“Insane?” Joxer finished for her before continuing, “He knows he’s a little
crazy, it’s a side effect of his power. He has a little less control and sanity
because of the control he exerts over others. He’s not that bad really, just a
little unbalanced.”
Joxer yawned loudly, surprised at how tired he was, but the day had been
eventful to say the least. He had never contemplated telling the truth to the
three, certain that they wouldn’t understand.
“You can sleep in the spare bedrooms, across the hall. Don’t try to leave
because I will kill you if I have too.” Ares instructed the three heroes as he
moved them out of the room with a wave of his hand.
*********
Xena looked at the room in surprised, it was decorated in green-not a colour she
would have associated with Ares. She was unsurprised to find Gabrielle chained
to a small bed, it looked like Ares wasn’t going to take any risks.
The relationship between Ares and Joxer was confusing her, she had never thought
she would see the day when Ares would give up his godhood. Joxer was so much
more than she had ever imagined, was he really that good at acting or had she
simply not bothered to look?
Xena hoped that Joxer would let her see the man behind the mask. From the few
glimpses she had seen Joxer was a great guy-someone she would be honoured to
call a friend. She would help the pair, even if it was only because she yearned
for such a love herself.
“Go to sleep, Gabby and we’ll talk about everything in the morning.” Xena said
looking at the bard, she really didn’t feel in the mood for one of Gabrielle’s
whining lectures.
“I’m chained here, aren’t you going to help me?” Gabrielle asked in shock.
“No, I won’t be able to open them, Ares would only use chains made by
Hephaestus.” Xena said, thinking to herself, if I let you free you’d probably do
something stupid anyway.
*******
“Tired, love?” Ares questioned seeing the exhaustion in Joxer’s face.
“Yeah, I guess I didn’t think the day would be so draining. You think we can
trust her?” Joxer replied, snuggling into Ares’ side.
Ares wrapped an arm around Joxer and said, “Xena? Maybe, she seems sincere.
We’ll keep the others here, just in case. There’s no way she would let them die
simply because she refused to deliver a message.”
“Want to go to bed?” Joxer asked, knowing he couldn’t stay awake much longer.
“Sure, love. You know I was surprised at Auto, he seemed scared when we
mentioned Jett.” Ares said as he lifted Joxer into his arms and carried the
mortal into the bedroom.
“That’s because he and Jett kind of had a thing. He walked out on Jett, I think
he’s afraid my brother is going to use his powers to get even with him.” Joxer
replied as Ares placed him onto the bed, making their clothes disappear with a
thought.
“Would Jett do that?” Ares questioned, he didn’t really spend any time with
Joxer’s brothers.
“Not really, he likes Auto. If Jett wanted to get even he could have done that
years ago.” Joxer said as Ares got inside the covers.
“Night, love.” Ares whispered as he moved so that he was spooning Joxer.
“Night Res, love you.” Joxer replied, his last thought was how shocked Hercules
was going to be when he found out the truth.
Ares laughed at the thoughts running through Joxer’s mind, he was always shocked
at what a vivid imagination his love had. Maybe they wouldn’t have to tell the
arrogant demi-god. Hercules would probably try and ‘rescue’ Joxer.
Part 10/15
Auto opened the door of the bedroom and walked outside into the cold corridor,
he just couldn’t sleep memories of the months he had shared with Jett where
plaguing him. He couldn’t help but wonder if the assassin had manipulated him.
He had actually come to like Jett, but he knew that the other man would probably
never speak to him again.
“What’s wrong, Auto?” Joxer asked as he walked out into the corridor, he had
woken up a couple of minutes earlier.
“Nothing, everything.” Auto replied running a hand through his hair.
“That doesn’t tell me a lot. Sit down and we can talk, it’s a lot easier if you
talk about your problems.” Joxer said, ushering the thief into the main room.
“How do you do it? Love Ares, knowing that it can all be taken away in the blink
of an eye.” Auto said, not knowing how to explain his feelings for Jett.
“I do it because to me, Ares is worth that and more. What’s really bothering
you?”
“I guess I’m thinking about Jett. I can’t see him again because he’ll hurt me.”
Auto said, taking the ale Joxer held out for him.
“Isn’t that what’s love’s about?” Joxer retorted, happy that they were finally
getting to the root of Auto’s problem.
“About being hurt?” Auto asked amazed, he didn’t think Joxer was into pain.
With a wise smile, Joxer said, “No about trusting someone, letting them inside
even when they might hurt you.”
Auto glared at Joxer, “What do you know about being hurt by the one you love?
Ares worships the ground you walk on.”
“Ares broke up with me once.” He ignored Auto’s gasp as he continued, “It was
about seven years ago now. It was awful, I spent months feeling Ares but not
being able to go near him. I kept wishing that Ares would take off the necklace,
but I don’t think I would have been able to cope if he had done.”
“So you just let him break up with you? Why didn’t you stop him?” Auto asked in
disbelief, he had seen how much Joxer loved Ares.
“We broke up for seven months but three times a day for seven months I told Ares
I loved him. That’s when Jett and Jace interfered. Jace looked after me; I think
they were kind of worried I was losing it. Jett went after Ares and forced him
to listen.” Joxer said smiling at the memory of Jett carrying Ares into the
house, wrapped up in chains.
Auto perked up at the mention of Jett eagerly he asked, “How did he manage to
get Ares to listen? Ares doesn’t seen the type to listen to anyone.”
“He chained Ares up and brought him to Jace’s house. He kind of beat Ares up for
hurting me. When I found out I asked him to stop and he did. I managed to make
Ares listen to me by letting him into every part of my mind. We got back
together but Jace and Jett vowed to kill Ares if he ever hurt me. They could do
it as well, it wouldn’t be that hard for either of them.” Joxer said smiling at
the shock in Ares face at the threat.
“There seems to be a lot more to Jett than I thought…do you, that is… Do you
know about what happened between me and Jett?”
“You mean about you two seeing each other three years ago? Of course, my
brothers and I tell each other everything.” Joxer said, it wasn’t strictly true,
as he hadn’t told his brothers about what Jonas did to him.
“Was Jett manipulating me? Did I only fall in love with him because he made me?”
Auto asked, ignoring the stab of pain at the thought.
“Nah, he likes you. He doesn’t manipulate people he likes, but why did you walk
out on him?” Joxer asked slightly angry, he remembered how hurt Jett had been
when he had seen his brother a couple of days after Auto had sneaked away while
Jett slept.
“If I had stayed with him he would have hurt me, he doesn’t love me. Not like I
love him.” Auto said, the ale making him open up more than ever.
“How would you know? You skulked away in the middle of the night. You hurt him
and unless you apologise you’ll never know how he feels about you.” Joxer said
gently.
“You’re a really great guy Joxer.” Auto said, moving quickly to place a kiss on
Joxer’s cheek.
The sound of growling caused Auto to look up into the eyes of one really angry
and jealous god. Jumping away from Joxer, Auto squeaked as Ares grabbed him by
the neck and pushed him into the wall. The wall cracked under the force of the
thrust.
“How dare you kiss my Joxer! I think I’ll have to teach you a little lesson.”
Ares said, a cruel smirk on his face.
“Beloved, he didn’t mean anything by it. He was just thanking me for helping him
sort out a little problem. Why would I want anyone else when I’ve got everything
I could ever want in you?” Joxer said as he walked over to Ares who was still
holding Auto a couple of feet above the ground.
“I don’t want him, Ares.” Auto said trembling, he could see his life flashing
before his eyes.
“Why don’t you want him? Do you think he’s not good enough for you?” Ares asked,
his voice dangerously low.
Talk about a bad situation, if I don’t want Joxer Ares is going to kill me but
if I do want Joxer Ares is still going to kill me Auto thought to himself as he
wondered what he could say.
“He’s a really great guy but I’m in love with Jett-honest.” Auto said hoping
that Ares would let him go.
Ares looked at the thief for a couple of minutes, making sure it was the truth.
Seeing that Auto was telling the truth for once, Ares let the thief
go-reluctantly and walked over to Joxer.
“Why are you awake? You normally sleep like a log.” Ares questioned knowing that
something was bothering Joxer.
“Just a little worried about what’s going to happen tomorrow. How about you give
me a massage to relax me?” Joxer said waggling his eyebrows suggestively.
“Whatever you want Jox.” Ares said as he grabbed Joxer’s waist.
The lovers flashed from the room in a flash of sparks leaving Auto alone. The
thief quickly finished off his ale and wondered just what he was going to say to
Jett when he next saw the assassin. Maybe he could get Jett to forgive him; he
would give anything just to feel Jett’s arms around him again.
Part 11/15
“I need some help! Cupid, can you help me out here?” Iolaus shouted at the top
of his lungs.
“Chill Curly, I’m here. What’s up?” Cupid said as he flashed into the room,
checking to make sure Hercules was gone.
“Hercules has locked me up. He said something about my clashing with the room.
He’s lost it, just get me out of here!” Iolaus said desperately, he really
didn’t know what Hercules would do to him next.
“Sure, you can go to mom’s place, after all she likes you. Just don’t mess with
anything!” Cupid said as he unfastened the chains and placed an arm around the
hunter’s waist.
The pair flashed out of the room, seconds later Hercules walked in wearing a
silver dress with a black hat. In his arms he carried four different skirts and
a knife. He looked around for Iolaus, shocked to discover his friend was gone.
“Oh well, it doesn’t matter I’ve got to colour coordinate the armour and then
redecorate the temple, maybe a nice shade of pink?” Hercules said as he walked
out the room, Iolaus already forgotten.
*******
“I think we need to talk to Zeus. It seems that Hercules has finally lost his
mind.” Strife said as he flashed into Aphrodite’s temple.
“What’s happened now?” Aphrodite asked as she checked on Bliss.
“He took petitions wearing a hideous silver dress and a black hat. Then he said
that all the soldiers need to colour coordinate their armour so that they don’t
clash with each other.” Strife replied with a smirk as he sat down.
There was a flash as Cupid and Iolaus appeared in the room. On seeing Strife,
Cupid let go of Iolaus and ran over to the younger god. Uncaring of their
audience the pair started to devour each other, moaning loudly.
“Sounds like he really needs some fashion advice. What’s wrong Curly?” Aphrodite
said smiling at the energy she was getting off the couple.
“Hercules locked me up because I clashed with the room! He’s really lost it this
time. Maybe we should call Zeus or Athena.” Iolaus said, focused on the two Gods
making out in front of him.
“Boys, get put of here. You’re distracting Curly.” Aphrodite said kindly as she
saw the pair weren’t going to break apart anytime soon.
The two gods flashed out of the room in a mix of red and blue sparks. Aphrodite
smiled at Iolaus and said, “Sorry but they’ve only just got together. You know
what that’s like.”
“Cupid and Strife?!” Iolaus asked in disbelief he never would have imagined the
pair together.
“You got a problem with them?” Aphrodite asked, her eyes flashing dangerously.
It was then that Iolaus remembered she was one of the most powerful goddesses in
the Pantheon. Maybe he should try and calm her down, “I thought Cupid was
married to Psyche.”
“Don’t mention that tramp! She decided that Cupid wasn’t good enough for her and
cheated on him with Apollo. Lets just say Strife was a little mad at her. She’s
now living on the streets in Athens, her beauty is definitely a thing of the
past. Then Strife cursed her, she has to spend her life alone and ugly for the
rest of her life.” Aphrodite said with a smile.
*******
“You ready to leave?” Joxer asked Xena, wanting everything to be over as soon as
possible.
“Yes, I’ve got everything. You want me to go somewhere in particular or can I
call Discord from anywhere?” Xena said looking at Ares.
“She’s got a temple in town, just don’t hurt any of the priests. She tends to be
a little overprotective.” Ares said as he pushed Xena out the room.
“You could have just told her that it was time for her to go.” Auto commented
wryly, freezing when Ares looked at him. Maybe he should be a little more
careful since the God was planning on killing him the night before.
“I’ve got a question.” Gabrielle said, ignoring the way everyone rolled their
eyes, she continued, “ I thought you gave up your position as War so why are you
still a god?”
“You really are stupid! That was only my position, I’m still a god by blood and
I have ambrosia every day. What you thought Gods are only Gods because of their
position?” Ares said in boredom.
********
Xena looked at the temple and wondered just what was going to happen to her when
she went inside. She didn’t really like or understand Discord and could safely
say the goddess probably felt the same for her. Her feelings didn’t matter; she
was doing this for Joxer.
Xena ground out the traditional summoning words, “Mighty Discord, please grant
an audience with your humble servant.”
“Humble servant, huh? Why are you here? You are supposed to be finding my
brother. If you’ve hurt him I’ll kill you.” Discord said as she tossed her knife
into the air.
“Res needs Ris to help.” Xena said, shocked at the way those five words changed
the Goddess completely.
“So you’ve seen my brother, then? How is he? Where is he?” Discord asked, a
faint smile on her face.
Remembering Ares’ instructions Xena said, “He’s okay, he wasn’t kidnapped but
he’s hiding out for a while. He said that I was to remind you of Zeus’ decree.”
Eris grinned broadly as she said, “So Res has hooked up with one of Menthu’s
line. He must like this person. Tell me about Menthu’s child.”
“He’s twenty seven. He’s a good guy, loyal, generous and seems to really love
Ares.” Xena said, not wanting to reveal Joxer’s identity.
“How long have they been together? Did Ares tell you that?” Eris questioned,
hoping her brother wasn’t going to be taken advantage of.
“They’ve been seeing each other for twelve years. Ares seems to really love him.
Look will you help them?” Xena said wanting to know if they could count on
Discord.
“Of course, he’s my twin brother. I guess you’ll have to come with me. When we
know everything’s going to work you can go and find Ares.” Eris said as she
grabbed the startled warrior and the two disappeared.
Part 12/15
“Cupid, Strife! Here Now!” Eris shouted as she materialised in Aphrodite’s
Olympus temple, she knew that Aphrodite would do anything to help Ares.
Cupid and Strife flashed into the room, wearing two matching angry pouts and
with rumpled clothes. They had been having a good time until Eris had called
them. Each one hoped they had been disturbed for a good reason otherwise they
would be angry.
“What’s she doing here?” Strife asked as he looked at the warrior princess, he
had always figured his mom didn’t like the woman. None of them did really, they
just put up with her.
“She has information from Ares.” Eris said, wincing when everyone shouted out
questioned.
“If you all shut up, maybe she can tell you!” Iolaus said, fidgeting when
everyone looked at him. Maybe that was a bad idea, knowing his luck the gods
would probably decide to curse him.
“Where is dad?” Cupid asked as he sat down, on Strife’s lap.
“He’s hiding out, remember the decree?” Eris replied seeing the understanding on
the Gods faces.
“Erm.. what decree?” Iolaus asked figuring that if he was going to hang around
he might as well hear the full story.
“Zeus decreed that no God can marry someone of Menthu’s line. Menthu is the
Egyptian God over war.” Aphrodite said with a small smile.
“So Ares wants to marry one of this god’s children? That’s the reason why he
left? Doesn’t it seem a little petty?” Iolaus said half to himself.
“Are you saying love is petty?” Cupid questioned with a dangerous smile.
“That my brother doesn’t know how to behave?” Eris asked her eyes pinning the
mortal in place.
“Not saying anything, just thinking aloud.” Iolaus said hastily.
“If Zeus agrees to let Ares marry this guy, Ares will take up the sword again.
If he doesn’t then Ares won’t be back and the world will be destroyed.” Xena
said calmly, knowing that it would take a lot to make the King of Gods change
his mind.
“How is Hercules doing as God of War?” Xena asked, wondering if her friend was
still himself.
“He’s lost it, completely. He’s walking around in dresses-really ugly dresses.
His main concern seems to be colour coordinating the armour for each army so
that they don’t clash. He locked me up because I clashed with the room.” Iolaus
said not knowing if he should laugh or cry.
“So it’s fairly safe to say Zeus knows that he can’t depend on Hercules. The
only other person who can do the job is Ares. Maybe if we explain everything,
Zeus will listen.” Xena said as started to relax slightly.
“You and Curly can stay here while we go and see Zeus. Is there anyone else Ares
wanted to help?” Cupid said to Xena.
For a few seconds Xena wondered is she should mention Jett, if she did everyone
would know that Ares was seeing Joxer. She wasn’t too sure how everyone would
take that news, she herself was guilty of assuming Joxer was a dim-witted
coward.
“No one, so what’s going to happen to Hercules if Ares returns? Will he still be
so crazy?” Xena asked, sure that an insane demi-god was a disaster waiting to
happen for the mortal world.
“Don’t know and don’t care!” Strife announced as the various gods and goddesses
flashed from the room.
*******
“Hercules has to go Zeus!” Hera spat at her husband, knowing that Hercules was
ruining Greece, surely even her stubborn husband must be able to see that.
“He’s doing a good job for someone who has no experience at being a God. There’s
no one else who can do the job anyway. Ares isn’t here and Athena can’t take
over the position. So tell me what do you want me to do?” Zeus said to his wife,
admitting just to himself that Hercules had become a little strange.
“We’ve got a message from Ares!” Aphrodite said as she flashed into the room
accompanied by Cupid, Strife and Eris.
Most unusual, Zeus thought as he looked at the four. He didn’t think Aphrodite
could even stand to be in the same room as Eris. What were they doing here? He
tuned out the conversation, reminiscing about his latest love interest.
“Zeus did you hear what Aphrodite said?” Hera questioned, knowing her husband
hadn’t been listening again.
“Oh yes…Ares. So what did he say?” Zeus asked, realising that he wasn’t going to
get away with not hearing the message.
“He said that he hasn’t been kidnapped and will return if you allow him to
marry.” Eris said calmly.
“He’s done all this because he wants to get married? There is no way Ares will
get married, the last thing we need is another Psyche.” Zeus said, not caring
about the flash of pain on Cupid’s face.
“He is serious father, he has been seeing this man for the past twelve years.”
Aphrodite said, wondering if she would have to resort to blackmail.
“Husband, we need Ares to return or the world will descend into chaos.” Hera
said, privately thinking it was about time her son settled down.
“Just who is this man Ares plans to wed?” Zeus asked, glaring at the younger
Gods when they avoided his gaze.
“One of Menthu’s children.” Strife replied with a grin, leaning back against
Cupid.
“There is no way I’m going to allow one of Them on Olympus!” Zeus said angrily.
“Well then Ares won’t return and both the House of War and the House of Love
will seek retribution.” Eris said, grinning evilly.
Zeus looked at them in shock, they were daring to threaten him over Ares! They
had no chance against him, didn’t they realise that? Then he remembered the look
in Ares’ eyes when he had informed his son that he would spend the rest of his
life alone, maybe he had been a little harsh on his eldest son.
Hoping to appease the angry gods, Zeus said, “Ares can keep this mortal around
in his temple, until he dies.”
“By your actions, husband you doom us all.” Hera said as Zeus disappeared from
the room in anger.
*******
“What happened?” Xena asked as Aphrodite, Eris, Cupid and Strife appeared in the
room.
“What do you think? Zeus said that Ares can’t marry but that he’s allowed to
keep this guy with him until the mortal dies.” Cupid said as he sat down.
Eris paced around the room angrily. If Zeus didn’t change his mind, Ares would
never come back. However this guy was must be really important for Ares to
willingly give up his position as War and defender of Greece.
“So I’ve got to tell Ares he can’t marry?” Xena said with a sinking feeling in
her stomach. She just hoped he wouldn’t kill the messenger.
“Hang around for a little and maybe Zeus will change his mind.” Cupid suggested,
helpfully.
“Cupid, can I ask a favour of you?” Xena said, figuring that they needed all the
help they could get.
Cupid grinned widely as he said, “Sure, anything to help dad.”
“Can you get Jett and Jace here? They might be able to help.” Xena said knowing
she had basically told them all that Joxer was the one Ares was in love with.
Cupid flashed out of the room, willing to do anything to help his father.
“Why would they help Ares?” Iolaus asked in confusion.
“They won’t help Ares, they’ll help Joxer.” Xena replied, knowing it was true.
“You mean Joxer is with Ares? And I thought Strife and Cupid was weird.” Iolaus
said, backing up when Strife glared at him.
“Isn’t Joxer a little bit simple for Ares?” Aphrodite questioned as Jett, Jace
and Cupid flashed in.
“Take that back about my brother!” Jett said as he stalked towards the love
goddess.
“We haven’t got time for this, Jett. Joxer needs you.” Xena said pulling Jett
back to one of the chairs.
“If Ares has broke up with him again, I’ll kill him!” Jett said with a snarl.
“Ares better not have hurt him, I warned him.” Jace said sounding angry, not an
emotion Xena had ever associated with the man.
“Ares broke up with Joxer? When did this happen?” Cupid asked in shock, he knew
how much the pair loved each other.
Jett glared at Aphrodite as he answered, “About seven years ago, the idiot felt
Joxer would be happier and safer that way. I taught him a little lesson about
what happens to people who hurt my brothers.”
“Shut up, we need ta help them!” Strife shouted.
“Maybe I can help with that.” Hera’s voice echoed in the room seconds before she
appeared.
Part 13/15
“Just how can you help?” Eris asked, looking at her mother suspiciously. Hera
hadn’t exactly been there for her or Ares since they were five years old.
“I’m the Goddess of Marriage. Take me to Ares and I’ll let him marry his
consort. As long as there are seven of us, including Ares Zeus will have no
choice but to agree.” Hera said with a smile.
“Cupid, Strife, Discord, Aphrodite, Hera, Ares that’s only six. We need another
God. Who’s most likely to let Ares get married?” Jace asked excitedly.
“Hephie will. How are we going to get there? We can’t sense wherever it Ares is
hiding out.” Aphrodite said as she opened her mind to her husband.
“We’ll walk, you can transport just outside a nearby town and I’ll take you
there.” Xena said happily.
“So who’s going?” Cupid asked, bouncing slightly with energy.
“We’re going, Joxer might need us.” Jett and Jace said together.
“I’ll come, this I’ve got to see.” Iolaus said with a cheerful grin.
There were six sparks of light as the occupants flashed out of the room, only to
materialise just a few minutes walk from the town. Aphrodite took one look at
the road and changed her clothes to something a little more suitable for
travelling.
“So we’re going to see Ares. How is he?” Hephaestus asked as he walked over to
his wife.
“He seems happy and moody.” Xena said with a grin. She started walking down the
road, Iolaus at her side.
“What do you expect? This is Ares we’re talking about.” Iolaus said giving Xena
a flirtatious smile.
The unusual band of travellers walked in silence, ignoring the stares they
received from the people they passed. They had been walking for an hour, when
Xena spotted the house. Walking towards it she was shocked when the Gods all
looked at her like she was crazy.
“There’s nothing there, Xena.” Eris stated as she looked at the land in front of
Xena.
“Trust me its there.” Xena replied, opening the door and waiting for the others
to follow.
*******
“What did Zeus say?” Joxer shouted out the question as the heard Xena walk
inside the house. He froze as he heard the footsteps of ten other people, had
she betrayed them?
Reaching for his sword, Joxer approached the door, holding it against Xena’s
neck as the woman walked through the doorway.
“Chill, Jox. We’re only here to help you.” Cupid said as he looked at the man.
This wasn’t the Joxer he was used to. This Joxer was confident, dangerous and
deadly.
Joxer sent the thought to Ares with a grin.
“What’s wrong, love?” Ares asked as he flashed in next to Joxer, a possessive
hand around Joxer’s neck.
“I think we shocked him. Don’t worry Ares, I’m only here to marry you and your
consort.” Hera said, noticing the tender way Ares spoke to Joxer.
“I take it Zeus didn’t agree to let me get married?” Ares said as he moved to
let them in.
“You might say that, but Mother said if the seven of us watch you get married
the old goat can’t do anything.” Eris said as she moved to hug her brother.
“Nice to meet you, Joxer.” Eris said turning to the shocked man.
“You too, Eris. Come and join us, we were just about to have something to eat.”
Joxer said, taking Ares’ hand and leading the way into the main room.
“Auto!” Jett exclaimed seeing the thief, he had hoped he wouldn’t have t spend
any real time with the other man.
“Hi Jett, can we go and talk somewhere?” Auto said pleadingly, he needed to
explain everything to the assassin.
“You can use the garden.” Joxer said, giving Jett a meaningful look.
The two men walked outside, taking quick glances at each other. As they walked
outside, Joxer let out a bark of laughter. Auto was clearly terrified, like Jett
would do anything to hurt him.
*******
“Just what do want, Auto?” Jett asked in confusion.
“I just wanted to apologise.” Auto said, sitting down on the grass.
“What for, leaving me or tearing my heart out?” Jett asked curiously.
“I’m sorry I left, I didn’t want to get hurt.” Auto said looking at the ground.
Jett gave a bitter laugh, “You didn’t want to get hurt? What about me? Or didn’t
you care about me as long as you were okay?”
“I love you and I figured if I stayed I would get hurt.” Auto answered, looking
up into Jett’s eyes.
“I wouldn’t have hurt you, I like you.” Jett said with a sad grin.
“That’s the problem, you only like me. You don’t love me.” Auto said sadly.
“How would you know, you never bothered to stick around? I’ve loved you for
years. What you figured I didn’t love you because I didn’t say anything?” Jett
said angrily.
“Yeah, I mean how was I supposed to know if you never said anything.” Auto said
defending himself.
“Don’t start with me, you where just the same. You only said I was a good
friend. Do you have any idea how much that hurt?” Jett said, moving closer to
Auto, and letting the thief see the pain he kept inside.
“I’m sorry, forgive me? Jett, I love you, will you take me back?” Auto said
gently taking hold of Jett’s hand.
“I forgive you. I love you too, Auto. But if you ever hurt me again, I will hurt
you so bad, you’ll beg to die.” Jett said, moving to pull Auto’s mouth to his.
The pair kissed hungrily, feeling like they had been apart an eternity not just
three years. They both moaned as their groins pressed together. Jett pushed,
Auto back onto the grass and set about undoing the thief’s clothes. As he was
doing so, Auto was fighting to undo the buttons on Jett’s shirt. Growling in
frustration, Auto ripped the shirt off and latched his mouth onto Jett’s
hardened nipple, teasing the other one with his hand.
Jett moved his hand up and down Auto’s erect cock with agonising slowness. Each
stroke of his hand drew Auto further away from reality, until all that existed
was the feelings rushing his body. Wanting the two of them to come together Auto
used all his willpower to push his impending orgasm down, but even as he did so,
Auto knew he couldn’t last long.
Removing Jett’s hand from his cock, Auto moved with a sensual grace so that he
was lying on top of the assassin. His mouth was lined up with Jett’ cock, Auto
quickly took the large manhood in his mouth, moving his head up and down, just
grazing the surface with his teeth. Jett took the thief’s cock into his mouth,
expertly moving his mouth up and down the hard shaft. The smell of Auto’s
arousal only bringing the assassin closer to orgasm. Auto could feel his
impending orgasm and moved his mouth faster wanting the pair to come together.
The pair arched as they came, shooting cum down the others’ throat. Jett
continued to suck hungrily, loving the feel of Auto’s cock in his mouth. Auto
just lay there panting for breath, completely spent. He grinned as Jett let the
cock fall from his mouth, and moved to lie next to him. The pair just lay there,
with happy grins on their faces.
*******
“How long have you known my son?” Hera asked as everyone sat down to eat. A
comfortable silence filled the air as they considered the question.
“I first met Ares when I was fourteen, just a couple of days before I left home.
We became friends.”
“How did ya hook up with Unc’?” Strife asked with a grin on his face.
“On my fifteenth birthday I was stuck in a cave and Ares came to see me. I’d
found some necklaces that I just knew were meant for Ares and me. I gave Ares
one, and kept the other one. It formed some kind of connection between our
minds. It was then that we found out the others feelings. We’ve been together
since then.“ Joxer said, smiling at the memory.
“I knew you two were together about five years ago.” Cupid said with a grin,
holding hands with Strife under the table.
“So you and Strife are in love. Since when?” Ares asked smiling at the alarmed
looks on the young gods faces.
“A couple of days now. I’ve been waiting for the idiot to make a move.” Cupid
said with a small smile.
“I figured ya wouldn’t want someone like me.” Strife said sincerely.
“You’re wonderful, Strife how could I not want you?” Cupid said placing a kiss
on Strife’s cheek.
Part 14/15
“Is anyone going to see if they’re both still alive?” Iolaus asked glancing at
the entrance to the garden.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. Jett’ll probably kill us for interrupting.”
Joxer said with a smirk.
“Interrupting what?” Iolaus asked in confusion, glaring when Joxer, Ares and
Jace started snickering.
“Knowing my brother they’re probably still naked.” Jace said with a grin.
“You mean they’re..? Oh, gross.” Gabrielle stated from her chained position,
despite all her pleading Joxer still wouldn’t let her go.
“Actually they’re quite a good couple really, they are perfect for each other.”
Aphrodite replied, grinning at the thought of how much energy she was going to
get in light of all the new couples.
“I was watching you when you left Sparta, just how did you disappear like that?”
Cupid asked Joxer, he wasn’t aware that the demi-god had that sort of power.
Joxer fell silent for a couple of minutes before answering, “The necklaces
allow us to teleport to wherever the other necklace is.”
“Are you ready to get married now, Ares?” Hera asked abruptly.
“Yeah, I’ve been ready for the past twelve years.” Ares said pulling Joxer onto
his lap.
“I’ll perform the ceremony in the garden.” Hera said, standing and heading
outside.
Joxer looked at Ares, wondering if he should have warned his brother first. Oh
well, Jett would probably just be angry for a couple of minutes but they
couldn’t put it off any longer. Joxer walked outside, Ares holding his hand
tightly. The others followed grinning at the little display.
“You going to get dressed, bro?” Joxer asked as he walked outside to find Auto
and Jett asleep in each other’s arms.
“You could have warned me!” Jett said scowling, he hurriedly dressed, passing
the thief his clothes.
“Wasn’t really much of a chance.” Jace said shrugging, giving Hera a pointed
look.
They could have just told me to wait, Hera thought to herself. With a wave of
her hand a gold cup appeared. Nodding to Ares and Joxer she waited for the pair
to join her.
“Do you Ares, Son of Zeus swear to be faithful to Joxer, Son of Menthu from now
until the end of time?” Hera said smiling gently at the pair, she had decided to
opt for the quick, quick version as the situation in Greece had almost reached
crisis point.
“Yes.” Ares answered, looking into Joxer’s eyes. He loved those beautiful eyes
and had spent hours just gazing into them.
“Do you Joxer, Son of Menthu wear to be faithful to Ares Son of Zeus from now
until the end of time?” Hera asked looking at the man.
“Yes.” Joxer answered seriously, a part of his mind noted that Jace and
Aphrodite were both crying, holding onto each other.
“Drink, Joxer.” Hera said, placing the cup at Joxer’s mouth. She ignored Ares’
startled glare.
Joxer drank the cool liquid, noting that there was something weird about it. It
was the most delicious wine he had ever tasted. He felt blood rushing through
his veins, dizziness overcame him then as fast as it had appeared the feeling
stopped, leaving him feeling wonderful as if he could to anything.
“I Hera, Goddess of Marriage present to you, Ares God of War and his husband
Joxer God of Loyalty.” Hera said, her voice echoing throughout the grounds.
*******
“I’m a God? You made me a God? What were you thinking?” Joxer said looking at
Hera in amazement. He just knew he wasn’t capable of being a god, he wasn’t good
enough or…clever enough.
“You’re questioning me?” Hera said looking at Joxer in shock. Few people dared
to say such things to her face, maybe Joxer would be good for the Pantheon if
this were how he treated the gods.
Seeing the look in his husband’s face, Ares figured it would be best to talk in
private so he sent his thoughts to Joxer,
Joxer replied, hysterically.
Ares
replied, rubbing small circles on Joxer’s back.
“You’ll have to postpone your honeymoon until we deal with Hercules.” Hera said,
hissing at the demi-gods name.
“You’re not going to hurt Herc, right?” Iolaus said hopefully, okay his friend
was acting a little strange but that was no reason to kill him.
“I’ll just take my sword back and then I’ll be God of War again.” Ares said, not
making any promises just in case.
Ares asked Joxer, wanting to get it over with.
Joxer looked around as he replied,
Ares asked, snarling at the gagged bard.
Joxer said
with a grin.
“Excuse me, to those of us who can’t read minds what’s going on?” Auto asked,
wondering how long he’d have to wait until he could get Jett naked again.
“We’re going to Sparta to get Ares’ sword back from Hercules. That mean’s all
the mortals are coming as well.” Joxer said patiently.
“We’ll come too.” Cupid said speaking for him and Strife.
“I’m definitely coming this is one fight I’m not going to miss.” Eris said with
a grin.
“Okay now for the groups, each of us is going to have to take a mortal. Cupid
you can take Jett. Strife you’re with Auto, just keep an eye on any valuables
you’ve got.” Joxer said with a smile, before continuing, “ Eris, can you take
Xena? I’ll take Gabby so that leaves Ares with Jace.”
Everyone apart from Ares started at Joxer in shock, they weren’t used to seeing
the man so forceful or so organised. The only time his brothers had seen him
behave in such a way was when of them got hurt. Joxer on a protective kick
tended to be a lot more confident and aggressive.
“Everyone got a mortal?” Joxer asked at the nods he said, “Let’s go then.”
On cue all the occupants disappeared from the calm garden in a wave of sparks.
As they disappeared, Strife’s voice echoed, “Auto, don’t even think about taking
that!”
Part 15/15
Joxer looked at the temple in shock, he had never seen the War temple look
so…disgusting. What was Hercules thinking decorating it in pink? The colours
were so not what everyone expected of war. His mouth fell open as Hercules
walked, well sashayed into the room.
“It’s a good thing Iolaus isn’t here. Jerkules had planed on castrating him.”
Cupid commented seeing the demi-gods fragile state of mind.
“Guys, you’re just in time. I need some help deciding on the colour for the
Spartan army. I was thinking maybe a nice soft blue or maybe a bright red. What
do you think?” Hercules gushed as he saw the shocked band.
“Those colours are a little bright for an army. Would you want to be standing
next to a guy wearing a bright red armour in a battle?” Jace said finding his
voice. Although he was happy that Hercules was getting more in touch with his
feelings that outfit was the worst he had ever seen.
“You may be right. What colour then? The armies can’t clash it would be a
disaster.” Hercules said his voice gaining a slightly maniacal edge.
“Hercules you look awful, what were you thinking? That purple skirt does not go
with that top.” Gabrielle said, foolishly.
Joxer looked at her in shock, she really had no brains. Gabrielle had really
upset an insane God. Oh well, maybe now he could get a little peace.
“You meanie!” Hercules shouted, blasting Gabrielle with a fireball without a
thought.
Ares quickly pulled Joxer away from the bard; he wasn’t going to let his love
get hurt for the Blonde pest. He had been waiting to blast the idiot since the
day she had first treated Joxer like dirt.
Cupid and Strife just watched dispassionately, comparing marks for Hercules’
aim.
“I give him a six.” Cupid said with a grin.
“Nah, five. He also hit the wall.” Strife reasoned, wondering just why Xena was
looking at him like that.
“Hercules just killed Gabrielle.” Xena said in disbelief.
“Yeah (!) Talk about pointing out the obvious.” Eris said as she watched
Hercules turn away from the body muttering under his breath.
“Herc, can I have the sword you’re carrying?” Ares asked keeping his voice calm.
Hercules shook his head for a moment before replying, “Then you’ll help me pick
the colours for the armour?”
“Sure! I know just what colour to pick.” Ares said, fighting to keep from
laughing.
“Okay, then. I still think we should use red…or maybe pink.” Hercules said
passing the sword to Ares.
There was a crash of thunderbolts as Zeus appeared at the very second Ares
grasped the sword. Zeus looked at Hercules in shock; his favourite son was
wearing a skirt. How long had that been happening?
“Where’s your little mortal, Ares?” Zeus asked smirking victoriously.
“Father meet Joxer my husband, and the new God of Loyalty.” Ares said holding
his sword out against his father.
Zeus looked at the young man in shock, and instinctively readied a thunderbolt.
He'd have to be dead before one of Menthu’s line set foot on Olympus.
The nine instantly surrounded the young God, willing to fight to the death to
help him. Joxer was the kind of person people instantly liked and would give
their lives to protect. It was partly because of the way he was still hopeful,
innocent in light of all he had experienced and partly because of his loving
nature.
“You can’t hurt him, Father. He’s protected by the rules of Olympus.” Ares said
his sword aimed at his father’s heart.
Zeus stubbornly argued, “He can’t be, your marriage had to have been witnessed
by seven gods.”
“It was.” Eris said, taking her knife out of its sheath.
Jett grinned as he reached into the power inside his mind and started to ever so
slightly push Zeus. He doubted he could make the God like Joxer but maybe he
could stop his brother from getting killed.
“Move out of my way!” Jett instructed as he fought the mass of bodies, feeling
Auto gripping his hand tightly he squeezed in reassurance and moved to stand in
front of Zeus.
“You do not want to hurt Joxer. He is a good balance for Ares, and for Olympus.”
Jett chanted the words as he pushed at the God’s mind. Feeling Zeus’ attitude
changing, Jett relaxed and started to fall to the floor. He was caught by Auto
just before his head could reach the ground.
“You can stay married to Joxer. He might be good for you.” Zeus said as he
disappeared from the room, ignoring the stunned Hercules who was watching
everything in shock. What was Joxer doing with Ares?
*******
“Nice job there, bro.” Joxer said as Jett managed to stand, his legs a little
shaky.
“Thanks, you going to have another wedding on Olympus?” Jett asked as he relaxed
against Auto.
“What are you doing marrying Him?” Menthu’s voice echoed around the room seconds
before the god appeared.
Jett and Jace quickly moved so that they were standing next to Joxer, who Ares
was protectively guarding. Joxer simply looked at his father, wondering if he
his father was ever going to stop interfering in his life.
“Its nothing to do with you, Menthu. You’re dead to me, don’t bother any of us
again.” Joxer said smiling at the way everyone had moved to circle the three
brothers.
“So be it, but don’t come to me for help when he hurts you.” Menthu said as he
disappeared from the room.
“I approve of your marriage, young Joxer.” A male voice said as it echoed around
the room.
Joxer stared in amazement as Jolis appeared in the room, how had he missed that
his old friend was a god.
“Thanks, just who are you?” Joxer replied with a grin.
“My name is Ammon, the Egyptian King of Gods, I chose this form so I could keep
an eye on you. I’m sorry my son treated you so unfairly. I approve of your
marriage, may your marriage be blessed.” The man replied, smiling at each of the
triplets before disappearing in a flash of gold sparks.
*******
“Father, can you help me get Gabrielle back?” Xena asked, turning to Ares.
Ares started at her in shock before replying, “I’m not your father, Xena.”
“Well then who is?” Xena said part of her ready to break down in tears; she had
always taken a little pride in the thought that her father was Ares.
“Apollo is your father. Will you leave me alone, now?” Ares said exasperated.
“My father is the biggest slut on Olympus? Oh great!” Xena said, her legs giving
way in shock.
“I guess that’s were you get your skill with medicine.” Joxer said, trying to
cheer up the obviously depressed warrior princess.
“How do I know you’re telling the truth?” Xena said glaring at Ares.
“Everyone knows, ask one of the other Gods if you don’t believe me.” Ares
replied with a grin, he had used his knowledge of Xena’s father to get the lute
from Apollo on Joxer’s fifteenth birthday.
******
“Hades, I want Gabrielle back.” Xena shouted arrogantly.
“He isn’t going to let her go just because ya asked.” Strife said with a grin.
“What do you want now?” Hades asked, as he appeared, first Hercules had demanded
he let Iolaus go and now Xena was demanding the bard back, what was it about
Heroes? Couldn’t they understand the meaning of the word dead?
“I want Gabrielle back!” Xena said angrily.
“You’re not getting her back, she’s escaped death too many times already. Come
to mention it so have you. No matter who asks, she stays dead!” Hades said as he
looked at her while narrowing his eyes.
“Oh so you came back, Ares. Who’s that you’re hiding from me?” Hades asked
seeing the way the Gods were acting.
“This is Joxer, my husband and the new God of Loyalty.” Ares replied, moving to
let Hades see his love.
Hades looked at the couple in confusion, then remembering his manners he said,
“Oh, its nice to meet you, Joxer. I’ve got to go Persephone is coming back
today.”
“What are we going to do with Jerkules?” Cupid asked as he looked at his
annoying relative.
“I guess we’ll have to let him go. Jace, an you keep an eye on him?” Joxer said,
smiling at his brother.
“Sure, but first he needs to change his clothes. That outfit is dreadful.” Jace
said, already deciding what clothes to dress Hercules in.
“Xena, you haven’t got a partner and neither had Iolaus. Why don’t you two
travel together?” Joxer suggested helpfully. In reality he simply wanted
everyone out of there so that he could be with Ares.
“That might be a good idea, at least Iolaus doesn’t blabber on all day.” Xena
said thoughtfully, as soon as she finished speaking, Ares transported her to a
couple of minutes from the cabin where Iolaus was waiting.
“Thanks for your help everyone.” Joxer said, wondering how he could tell
everyone to disappear.
“Now you can all leave.” Ares said, as he and Joxer disappeared from the room.
“That wasn’t very polite.” Joxer commented as the couple materialised in their
bedroom.
“So, we’ve got a lot to celebrate, and my plans don’t involve anyone else.” Ares
said with a grin.
“We’ll have to apologise to everyone later, so just what do these celebrations
involve?” Joxer answered with a smirk.
“You’ll see, love.” Ares replied, thinking that for once his plan had actually
worked, and he couldn’t be happier.
