Part 1

//No more friends…alone again...I deserve it…all my fault// These were the only thoughts running through his mind as Xander Harris stepped on the bus and took one last look at Sunnydale, a place he would never return to.

They all knew about what he had done but not telling Buffy about the spell hadn’t been for his own selfish reasons. Xander had known Buffy wasn’t strong enough to kill Angelus; he couldn’t let the all the people in the world die because of one man. To do so would be wrong and against everything he believed, so he had kept quiet about the spell.

Buffy had shouted and screamed, telling him she hated him and would never forgive him. He couldn’t handle being around them while they were ignoring him or sending hateful glares at him. Xander had thought he could trust them to be there forever. He was wrong.

Two months later Xander was in Santa something…it didn’t matter anymore, nothing did. He wondered how far he would have to run to escape the taunting voices of his friends. He walked with unseeing eyes looking for some way to stop the voices and the sheer pain of living. He smiled for the first time since That Night; he had finally found it, the perfect place for eternal rest.

*******

In the Legacy mansion, Derek Rayne was sitting at the table in the conference room with unseeing eyes. He started crying unable to stand the heat wrenching pain that came with the images he saw.

///*Vision*///

A man ready to die, alone and feeling like he deserved it because he had done the right thing. A vampire ready to destroy the world battling a blonde beauty.

The scene changed to a hospital, the blonde shouting angrily, “I hate you, you deserve to die!”

The man turned to his redhead friend for reassurance, a sparkle of hope his eyes. It was crushed by the first words out of her mouth, “Leave, you’re no longer my friend.”

///*End vision*///

“You okay, Derek? What did you see?” Alex asked as she looked at their leader in confusion, the older man was crying something she had never seen before.

Derek whispered, “We have to find him, before it’s too late!”

“Find who?” Nick asked as he grabbed his jacket

“Find Xander before he kills himself. We have to get to Santa Fe!” Derek said as the trio walked outside, heading straight for the helicopter.

“Who’s Xander?” Alex asked as she fastened her seatbelt.

“Someone who has saved this world only to be deserted by those he loved and trusted. He’s young and brave but he’s given up.” Derek said knowing that there was something seriously wrong.

*******

“It’s so beautiful here. Who’d have thought I’d die here and not from some bloodsucker?” Xander laughed humourlessly as he readied his knife ready to make the final cut.

“Xander, everything is going to be okay. Put the knife down.” A man with a faint accent said from somewhere behind him.

Xander spun round, sure that he was finally going insane. He had suspected it but having proof was a lot more terrifying than he had ever imagined.

“Leave me alone, you win. I can’t handle it anymore!” Xander shouted looking up at the sky.

In that moment Nick took the shot, the bullet hitting Xander’s arm and knocking the knife from his hand.

Xander looked at the three strangers in disbelief, what right did they have to interfere? It was his life and his choice. He had everything planned, just how was he supposed to slit his wrists now?

A kind dark skinned woman said, “We’ll take care of you Xander.”

Causing Xander to smile at the thought that no one had vowed to that or a long time. He closed his eyes almost ready to surrender to the welcoming darkness. He heard the name Derek and grinned, funny how he kept hearing that name in his dreams.

*******

“What happened to him?” Nick asked as he helped place the unconscious man on the bed.

“He saved the world and was deserted by because of it. But there’s something else…” Derek said thoughtfully.

“Y…you’re him, aren’t you? Derek Rayne?” Xander asked as he opened his eyes, immediately checking the room for potential threats. The two men watching him definitely classified as threats.

“You know me?” Derek asked in confusion, he didn’t recognise the boy but that didn’t mean anything.

Xander said tiredly, “Not really…your name keeps coming to me in my dreams when the other voices go away.”

“Sleep. You’re safe here,” Derek said as he left the room.

Nick stopped to give the man on the bed another look before joining his friend.

“Voices? Think he’s possessed?” Nick, said thinking that could explain why the boy … man Nick reminded himself, had tried to kill himself.

“No, there’s a spell on him.” Derek was determined to find out exactly what sort of spell.

“His name is Alexander Lavelle Harris. He lived on the Californian Hell Mouth until he disappeared two months ago. His parents didn’t notice he was missing until he had been gone a month and from the sound of it they didn’t care.” Alex said as she walked over, having finished searching the computers.

Nick asked eagerly, “Do you get anything from him?”

Alex couldn’t help but feel angry at whoever had hurt the brave teen. Sighing she said softly, “He’s sad, lonely and depressed. He thinks he’s worthless but something inside him keeps fighting.”

*******

“No…sorry…leave……… had to… world!” Xander shouted, his voice echoing through the house.

The three ran into the room and saw nothing but each one felt a presence. Derek and Alex desperately tried to calm the distraught man who kept hitting their arms away. Nick was busy searching for some sign of the presence.

“You won’t find anything, it’s a spell.” Derek said as he tried to wake Xander to no avail, the younger man just carried on shouting and whimpering.

“Xan…you’re safe here, we won’t let you get hurt. Just wake up so we can fix everything.” Nick said as he gently brushed the hair out of Xander’s eyes.

Xander opened his eyes immediately and looked up, straight into Nick’s eyes. There was something between them, a connection that seemed to tighten as they stared into each other’s soul.

Xander said in a defeated tone, “Sorry about disturbing you, let me guess the voices came back?”

“Everything is going to be okay now. My name’s Nick and I’m going to keep watch on you, okay?” Nick kept his voice low and soothing not wanting to alarm the clearly fragile teen.

Xander said he lay back down in the bed, “Thanks for waking me, Nick. I’m going to sleep now. If the world’s about to end, give me a shout.” “I’m going to keep an eye on him.” Nick said as he moved to stand guard next to Xander. He had an overwhelming instinct to protect the brunette and he would with his life.

“Okay, we’ll do a little research and see what we can find.” Derek said as he left the room, taking one last look at the sleeping man.

As they walked down the stairs Alex asked, “You think we can remove the spell?”

“I think so, I hope so. The Slayer is in Sunnydale, it’s the blonde from my vision.” Derek said as he brought up the council’s records.

“You think she has something to do with the spell?” Alex asked alarmed, if the Slayer had gone bad they would have to do something about it.

Derek said quickly, “No, but she hurt him deeply.”

Two hours later they had managed to narrow the possible spells down to two but still had no clue as to the identity of the caster. Derek was sure he could safely remove the spell but wanted to ensure that another spell wouldn’t be cast on Xander.

******

Alarmed Nick shouted, “Guys, get up here now!”

He watched as a green glow formed over the bed, slowly the light took shape revealing the form of a young redhead with green eyes. She looked only at Xander, chanting faster and faster.

Derek quickly started chanting the removal spell, it was relatively simple to cast. As he chanted Alex started burning the herbs, her eyes still on Xander who was sleeping fitfully. After five minutes the glow and the form disappeared completely and Xander started sleeping peacefully. Still Derek chanted, wanting to protect Xander so that it couldn’t happen again.

“The spell’s been removed. I’ve put some wards on Xander to stop anyone casting any more spells on him. It should work unless someone with stronger abilities casts a removal spell.” Derek said with a smile.

Glaring at the three strangers Xander growled, “Where’s my Pack?”

“I take it that wasn’t part of your spell (!)” Nick said sarcastically as Xander gracefully moved off the bed and approached them.

Xander stopped to smell the three humans they smelled different to the Pack. The old one challenging his authority smelled strange. The female smelled like food, he approached her only to be forced back by the smell of death. The young one, the one with the nice voice was his. He growled as the old man approached the young one, challenging his ownership!

“Mine!” Xander snarled at Derek, moving in front of Nick.

“I think you should back off. Any idea what’s wrong with him?” Nick said, wondering whether he could reach his gun.

Derek answered with a smile, “I assume he is possessed.”

Nick said wryly, “Ya think (!)

Xander laughed causing chills to shiver down the spines of the three who were watching him in worry.

“I think he’s possessed by a hyena.” Alex said, watching in fascination.

*******

Xander stopped at the sudden scent of fear coming from the cub.

Didn’t it understand that there was nothing to be afraid of? He wouldn’t hurt his pack-member; anything that did would be destroyed. Xander quickly pushed Nick down onto the bed, snarling at the two strangers. He was going to make everyone see that this cub was his.

Although he knew Xander didn’t know what he was doing Nick couldn’t help but feel a little uncomfortable as Xander started rubbing his face over his body. It felt kind of nice and reminded him of a cat rubbing themselves against your legs. Even more embarrassing it was starting to excite certain parts of his anatomy.

Xander shook his head and moved off the bed. His whole body was ramrod straight, but his very posture made it clear that he was ready to spring into action at any moment.

“What’s the situation, Sir?” Xander asked looking at Derek.

Derek was about to reply only to be stopped when Xander shook his head again, his body relaxing.

“You’ve released them again! I finally had them under control!” Xander said looking at Derek in anger.

Xander turned and smiled reassuringly at Nick, “My selves won’t hurt you, Nick. We think of you as ours so you’re okay. But don’t try to leave or you’ll make the hyena angry and there’s no telling what she will do.”

“What do you mean ours?” Nick asked a feeling of dread in his stomach.

Used to the hyena’s strange reactions Xander said “She claimed you as Pack but she feels Derek is a challenge to her and wants to eat Alex. So they really should get out of here.”

“Do you want us to remove the spirits?” Derek asked, from what Xander had said the spirits hadn’t hurt him, yet.

“No, you wouldn’t be able to. They are part of my soul.” Xander said knowing instinctively he was right.

Derek smiled, “I can look for a spell to merge the spirits.”

Not looking at the pair Xander said, “Could you just leave us alone? I’ve been coping with this dominance thing for a while and should be able to get them under control if I have space.”

Alex and Derek left the room unable to stop their worry about Nick. Had they just made a fatal mistake in leaving Nick with the possessed Xander? It was clear Xander believed that the spirits wouldn’t hurt Nick but what if he was wrong?

*******

“Don’t worry, Nick. I won’t hurt you, you’re always safe with me.” Xander said as he looked at the man next to him on the bed.

“You keep saying that but I haven’t had a whole lot of luck with possessed people.” Nick grinned ruefully.

Xander laughed saying, “Neither have I. Basically the hyena has claimed you as Pack, so she won’t hurt you unless you betray her. The Ranger in me sees that you are a fellow soldier. The rest of me, my soul sees that you’re someone I can trust and someone I would like to be my friend.”

Nick was amused at Xander’s frantic attempts to reassure him, “You won’t try to eat me or kill me then?”

Xander gave a wicked grin, “Nah, I like you. Just stand guard while I’m out and don’t let anyone in.”

Xander moved to the centre of the room and sat down with his legs crossed in front of him. Using all the skills he had practiced since his first possession he quickly went into a trance and looked inside himself.

‘These people aren’t like the other Pack. They won’t betray us. Join with me and we can have a Pack again.’ Xander thought to the image of the hyena, which appeared inside his mind.

‘They take cub away?’ The hyena asked angrily.

Xander replied quickly, ‘No, he is one of our Pack and will be protected. Come join with me we can help our Pack, hunt and be free again.’

The hyena walked over to the boy and they merged forming the image of a boy with fur and dangerous eyes. The figure walked over to the soldier who had watched the proceedings calmly and detached.

The solider protested, ‘I’m not going to join with that animal!’

Xander said with a knowing smirk, ‘She seeks to protect her family and community as you do. She fights to stop her friends and pack from getting hurt, she is like you.’

The solider asked confused, ‘I guess so, but what about honour and duty?’

Xander said emotionally, ‘She serves her duty protecting her Pack and family. Honour is in being willing to give your life to save another of your Pack. I have honour, as does she. We are one, join us and help us or remain caged forever!”

The soldier stopped and considered the information before moving and taking Xander’s hand. There was a bright white light as spirits merged to become one being. Xander grinned he couldn’t feel any differences between the three different aspects of his personality. They were one and the same.

*******

“Hey Nick, how long was I out?” Xander asked as he returned to reality.

Nick helped Xander stand saying, “Three days, everyone has been a little worried. If you didn’t come round by tomorrow, Rachel wanted to interfere. Want a drink or anything?”

“That would be good, got any chocolate here?” Xander said as they walked out the room.

Nick smirked, “Alex makes sure we always have some.”

“I’m sorry for releasing the spirits. I didn’t realise what would happen.” Derek said spying the pair.

Xander said, “Don’t worry about it, it was an accident. Besides it kind of helped me stop the hyena from going back to kill my former friends.”

“Do you want to kill them?” Rachel asked concerned as to whether the boy was a danger to the world.

Xander stopped to consider the question before saying, “I’m angry at them. You don’t turn your back on your friends! They broke the ancient rules of the Pack. You don’t have to worry, doc. I’m not going to kill them - that would be too easy for them. I’m just going to make sure I never see any of them again.”

Derek said, “While you were meditating we had a discussion. How would you like to join the Legacy, Xander?”

While the boy had been unconscious both Derek and Alex had visions telling them that it was Xander’s destiny to join the Legacy. That was the reason behind Derek’s first vision and their meeting.

Xander smiled at the offer saying, “That would be great. Although I’m not that good at the whole saving the world job.”

Nick gently touched Xander’s arm, “Don’t worry, you get used to it. I’ll show you your new room, Xan. Feel like sparring later?”

Xander smiled as an eager Nick led him out the room. He couldn’t help but feel this was right and something his life had been leading to.

Part 2

//Ten Years Later//

Derek took one look at the two people sitting in the conference room and mentally groaned. He did not like what he had to do, but it was time. He could not put it off any longer no matter how hard he tried.

Derek said, “Xander, its time for you to go back to Sunnydale and start your own Legacy house. Nick will go with you to make sure you don’t cause too much trouble.”

Xander snarled not liking the thought of returning to Sunnydale. He had left with a vow never to return, but fate was a bitch.

Xander grinned, “You just know he would mope without the Xan-Man (!) Give us thirty to pack and we can go.”

“Keep an eye on him. Don’t let anything hurt him,” Derek said putting a hand on Nick’s shoulder.

As he looked the stairs Xander had just ran up Nick said solemnly, “You know I won’t let him get hurt, I’d die before that happened.”

*******

“You okay with going back, love?” Nick asked as he moved to snake his arms around Xander’s waist. Smiling at the younger man’s sigh of contentment.

“No, but I can do anything if you’re there,” Xander said knowing it was the truth.

“I’ll always be there. Never forget that,” Nick said as he turned Xander round and kissed the man.

The kiss was as much about reassurance as it was about love. They both knew that the mission in Sunnydale would be full of problems but each knew that together they could overcome anything.

“Bye, Dad. You will come and visit us, right?” Xander said hopefully as he hugged the man who had become his adoptive father.

“Of course, if only to annoy Nick,” Derek said as he hugged them, unable to keep the sadness he felt completely out of his voice.

*******

Nick smiled at the look on his lover’s face, Xander looked like he was about to face a firing squad. Something he could understand but they had no choice; if he had his way, they would be back home with Derek.

“This is Sunnyhell. I suppose it’s too late to back out?” Xander said arching his eyebrow at the amusement on Nick’s face.

Escorting the younger man into the house Nick said, “Yeah, come on we need to christen the bed, the floor and whatever else you can think of.”

“I can think of a few things. Where did we put those handcuffs?” Xander replied leering at his mate.

Xander started biting and kissing a path down his lover’s neck as Nick said, “I think they’re in my backpack.”

*******

“Ready for patrol?” Nick said as he checked his gun one last time.

“Always. We can hit the cemetery before going to the Bronze, okay?” Xander said as he placed his gun in its holster and put on his leather jacket.

“Have I told you how sexy you are, lover?” Nick said as he took in the sight of Xander wearing black leather pants and a black turtleneck.

“You just like the look of me in mission black,” Xander said with a laugh.

“I think you look sexy in anything, but not nearly as good as you do when you’re naked,” Nick grinned as his mate’s steps faltered.

Hearing a girl scream for help, the pair ran into the graveyard. Seeing a girl surrounded by twelve vampires the couple quickly took out their guns and aimed.

“Look, the puny mortals are going to hurt us with gun,” A tall bloodthirsty biker vampire said scornfully.

Seconds later he was dust.

They fired three more times, reducing the numbers to two to one. With matching smirks the pair dived into the fight, stakes at the ready. Their military training was evident from their fighting as they staked their opponents in less than ten seconds. After the years they had spent fighting various demons, they had gotten good at vampires who were relatively easy to kill.

Xander turned to check the victim wasn’t hurt, only to find she had disappeared.

‘Looks like the girl had brains after all,’ Nick thought as he searched the surrounding area.

“Don’t worry, I can’t smell anyone else,” Xander said as he pulled Nick to him.

Nick stood still letting Xander search him for wounds. He was used to the move by now, he waited patiently as Xander scented the air for any trace of blood and looked over his mate’s body for any sign of injury.

Nick rolled his eyes, “Want to tell your hyena to chill? I’m okay, Lex.”

“Hmm,” Xander muttered as he listened to Nick’s heartbeat, trying to reassure himself that his mate wasn’t hurt.

*******

Stopping to look at the circle of ash Buffy said, “Look at the dust, something else is killing vamps.”

Bending down to look at the ground Angel said, “Look there was a struggle here. The vampires must have had a girl before the pair appeared.”

“Pair?” Willow questioned, wondering were Angel was getting his information from.

Scenting the air Angel said, “There are two sets of footprints. They’re fighters, look at how they’re standing. The prints are fresh, they must have been here about ten-fifteen minutes ago.”

Not liking this challenge to her power Buffy said, “No one sneaks around hunting vamps on my territory.”

********

“Here you go. I finish in half an hour if you want to do something,” The waitress said looking at Xander hopefully.

Not wanting to hurt her feelings Xander said charmingly with a nod at Nick, “Thanks for the offer but I’m married to him.”

“If you ever decide to try women give me a call,” The waitress said as she walked away.

The couple was sitting so they could see both the exit and the entrance not wanting to be taken by surprise should anything show up, which was entirely possible knowing their luck.

“Did I ever tell you about this place?” Xander asked looking over at Nick, who shook his head.

Smiling at the memories Xander said, “I used to come here when my parents were arguing, drinking or just looking for some excuse to beat me up. No matter what time it was the owner, Maggie, would talk to me and give me something to eat. It’s one of my favourite places in Sunnyhell. I always felt safe here and there weren’t many places like that.”

Nick smiled, “I’m glad you brought me here.” He continued with a smirk not entirely joking, “Want to go and beat up your parents?”

Xander said scandalously, “Shame on you Nick Boyle! It’s against the good guy code to go after someone for revenge!”

“Please, pretty please?” Nick said batting his eyelashes and giving puppy dog eyes.

That was all it took for Xander, who burst out laughing hysterically. Nick looked at him for a moment before joining him. They drew strange looks from the rest of the people in the diner, who shook their heads before returning to their meals.

“Want to go, Lex? We still need to fill Derek in on our adventures,” Nick said with as he stood, quickly moving to Xander’s side.

“Not all of them, I hope,” Xander arched an eyebrow, causing Nick to smirk.

With a carefree grin Nick said, “I don’t think he could handle hearing anymore about our sex life.”

“He wouldn’t have known anything if you hadn’t left the film in the camera,” Xander complained as they walked out the diner.

“Just a quick hit at the Bronze and we can go back home.” Nick said wanting to get Xander naked as fast as possible.

*******

Not wanting a repeat of the Venice incident Nick asked, “Is your radio working?”

Xander rolled his eyes, “Gods, it was one little mistake. Who knew that radios were SO fragile?” “Most people know they don’t work if you crush them and set them on fire,” Nick replied sarcastically. Xander retorted, “It was an accident, it’s not my fault that ghost was in a mood.”

“What did you expect? You killed her pet werewolf.” Nick said, ending the conversation as they approached the Bronze.

They separated, each one turning on their earpiece. As they walked inside, Xander quickly ran his eyes over the crowd. He could tell there were at least ten vamps in there, but knew he couldn’t take the all out at once without hurting any innocents.

Going to the bar, he ordered a brain hemorrhage and watched the dancing people in front of him. He grinned as a vampire came over and started to talk to him. With a quick sultry look he headed outside, the vamp following just seconds behind.

Nick’s voice said in his ear, (Good work, Lex. I told you, you look hot! I’ll be out in a few seconds along with my vamp. Want to play a little before we stake them?)

(You know me; I’m up for anything.) Xander answered his voice to low for even the vamp to hear, grinning when he heard Nick’s laughter echo from the other side of the club.

*******

“How could you do this? I thought we had something special!” Nick shouted at Xander, as he walked out just seconds after Xander and his “date.”

“Tell you what we can share,” Xander laughed at the look of confusion on the vampire’s face.

Nick said thoughtfully, “Nah, I want you all to myself. Why don’t you get rid of him?”

Smirking Xander quickly he kicked the vampire to the floor, leaving his foot on the vamp’s throat and shot him in the heart.

With a smirk Xander pulled Nick to him saying, “That was fun. Now for your vamp stalker, I love this part!”

The pair kissed passionately, only to be disturbed when a vampire grabbed Xander and threw him away from Nick. Xander grinned and stood up, brushing the dust from his clothes.

“Hey, you hurt my man!” Nick said angrily kicking and punching the vampire determined to cause as much pain before he staked him.

“Enough already, we’ve still got to phone Dad,” Xander said, throwing Nick a stake.

“Thanks,” Nick staked the vampire, smiling when he turned to dust.

“A little mad?” Xander asked as they walked towards their new home.

Nick grinned at the amusement in Xander’s voice. He quickly defended his actions, “What do you expect? He hurt you.”

“Actually, he didn’t but that was fun,” Xander smirked he had enjoyed the show anyway.

“You know, I don’t think this was what the Legacy had in mind when they told us to set up a house here,” Nick said as he took Xander’s hand.

“They should have expected it, after all they did send us.” Xander answered with a laugh, knowing other Legacy houses complained that they didn’t take their work seriously enough.

The humour with which Xander faced the world, and the playful banter he shared with Nick were one of his many ways of coping. A way to stop all the darkness in the world taking over him and causing him to lose all hope in humanity, before he had left Sunnydale he had assumed that the only creatures capable of truly evil acts anymore where humans.

He had been wrong, the last ten years had showed him that humans were just as capable of being evil, only they didn’t have the excuse of having no soul. He had also discovered that few paranormal species and beings wanted to destroy the world, many were simply trying to cope and live along with everyone else.

*******

“Xander, I thought it was you! They’re to just die when they see you,” Cordelia Chase said as she ran over to them.

Plastering a fake smile on his face Xander said, “Nice to see you too, Cordy. Cordelia Chase this is Nick Boyle.”

Xander just stared at her, wondering what had happened to the prom princess he had known. She actually appeared to be happy to see him, just what had happened while he was gone? At her appreciative look at his mate, Xander couldn’t stop the growl of anger.

“So this is the Cordy you told me about, love.” Nick said as he relaxed against Xander, making it clear he was taken.

Xander grinned, they were both very possessive when it came to the other, something Derek and Alex had found amusing. They were okay until someone started looking interested in their lover, when that happened all bets were off.

Laughing Cordelia said, “You’re gay? Oh, Buffy is going to love that!”

Cordelia started walking, making it clear that they had to follow her. They followed, exchanging amused grins, so much for avoiding the Slayer!

Walking into the Watcher’s home without knocking Cordelia said proudly, “Giles! Look who I found!”

Turning wearily Giles just gaped at the couple for a few seconds before saying, “Xander, where have you been? Oh please, sit down.”

Xander sat down with Nick on his lap and said, “Nice to see ya, G-man.”

At this moment Willow, Buffy and Angel walked in obviously just finishing patrol. Everyone stared at the couple, shocked to see Xander alive after ten long years.

******

[Beep, beep, beep]

Xander ignored them smiling in thanks when Nick passed him the phone from Xander’s back pocket.

“Hi, Dad.” Xander answered the phone, ignoring Nick’s hands playing with his earrings.

“You haven’t still got Nick tied to the bed, have you?” Derek said with a grin Xander had brought out his sense of humour along with his parental instincts.

Xander said with a grin, “Nah, I untied Nick about an hour ago. Right now, he’s covered in chocolate and writhing underneath me. Ya want to speak to him?”

“Yes, please.” Derek said, smirking when he heard Xander talking to Nick.

“Dad wants to speak to you, probably checking up on me.” Xander said as he passed the phone to Nick.

Grinning at the glare Xander was giving him Nick said, “What’s up, Derek?”

Derek laughed at Nick’s bored tone, “I wanted to make sure everything is going to plan and that you haven’t completely destroyed Sunnydale.”

Looking up at Xander he grinned, “Actually, we totally screwed up the plan, again. It’s been fun, did a small patrol and dusted fourteen.”

Derek said wearily, “Why do I even bother giving you a plan? Put Xander back on, time to talk some sense into him.”

“He’s in another mood, going to try and talk some sense into you.” Nick told Xander, laughing when Xander smirked. This was going to be good.

‘Time to get his own back!’ Xander thought with a smirk as he said, “You ever going to give back our tape? Why you want a tape of my mate and I having sex, I don’t want to know.”

“Philip’s got it, so you’ll never see it again. Try not to see the Slayer and the others if you can avoid it.” Derek said, not wanting to see his son hurt.

“Kinda late for that.” Xander said and held the phone from his ear when Derek started shouting.

“I told you not to go near the Slayer! Nick, try and stop him from blowing up the town,” Derek said, angry and worried.

“Hey, there’s nothing in the world that can’t be solved by explosives,” Xander said indignantly as he ended the call.

“We’ve lost the tape, Philip’s got it,” Xander whispered to Nick who laughed loudly.

*******

The six people in the room stared at the couple in shock. This was not the Xander Harris they remembered, gone was the Zeppo who would do anything to be accepted. This Xander was a stranger who apparently had a new life and a new family. This Xander looked far more dangerous and attractive than they had ever seen from Xander

“Everybody, this is Nick Boyle - my husband.” Xander said addressing the group giving Nick an adoring look.

Buffy said confused and disgusted, “You’re gay?”

“Yeah, always have been.” Xander said shocked at her question.

“So how long have you been together?” Cordy asked wanting to get all the gossip.

“Eight years, four months and four days.” Xander answered quickly. Nick gave an indulgent smile and argued, “Five days, love.”

Nick stretched slightly and whispered in Xander’s ear.

“Five days.” Xander said with a mock glare at Nick.

Giles asked the question they all wanted answering, “Why did you leave?”

Shrugging his shoulders Xander said, “Buffy and Willow told me they didn’t want me here. So I left.”

“I’m sorry, Xander. I didn’t know what they said.” Giles said glaring at the two women.

Having come to terms with the betrayal Xander just grinned, “That’s okay G-man.”

“No, it’s not okay! Willow tried to kill you.” Nick said angrily, this was the source of their most of their arguments.

His voice angry and cold Giles asked, “What do you mean tried to kill him, Mr. Boyle?”

Nick said glaring at the witch, “That bitch put a spell on him to make him see her shouting at him that he was worthless, that he should die and didn’t deserve to have friends. It almost made him insane.”

“She what!” Giles said, he moved to the witch and said, “Leave, I’ll speak to you later.”

Willow left the house in tears, no one followed her unable to believe what she had done. Oz couldn’t believe what had happened, he had always thought she was a kind soul who would never hurt anyone.

*******

“So how did you get out of hell?” Nick asked Angel wanting to change the conversation.

“How did you know about that?” Buffy asked, wanting to know if they were in danger.

“Lex told me years ago.” Nick answered, looking at Xander he whispered, “I think we should tell them why we’re here, love.”

“I wouldn’t have come back here, but I had no choice. Do any of you know about The Legacy?” Xander said, turning to address the group at large.

“They are involved in protecting humanity from evil.” Angel said, looking over at the couple in askance.

“That’s basically it, the Legacy wants a house on the California Hell Mouth. Nick and I are here to run the house.” Xander said with a smile.

“You’re involved with a group of demon hunters?” Giles had never imagined Xander would be involved in such a group.

“I’m a member of the Legacy, I have been for the last ten years.” Xander said proudly, he had grown up a lot since he had left and wasn’t going to apologise for the best decision in his life.

“I take it you intended to consult us about the local demons.” Giles said not wanting to antagonise the couple.

Xander said apologetically, “No. We already know about the local population. We’re here to make sure the hell mouth doesn’t fall into the wrong hands and to help control the hostiles.”

“You’ve been doing a terrible job. We are going to turn things a little more in our favour.” Nick said honestly, grinning at the indignation on Buffy’s face.
