Chapter 5
**Howie Gets His Shot In**
After dragging the two of them to the dining room, I was greeted by the
sight of a huge home-cooked breakfast. The guys all looked up at us as we
entered the room and grinned when they saw the big smile plastered across my
face. I mean, no one had made me breakfast for years. I had always been
the one who got stuck with the cooking. It made me feel good that someone,
several someones, had done something really nice for me. We all sat down at
the table and Brian said grace. When we started passing the food around, AJ
cleared his throat and everyone turned to look at him.
"Umm, guys, I have something important to tell you. I know that you
figured it out already, but I think that you deserve to hear me say it," he
took a deep breath and then continued, "I'm gay. Howie told me how you
found out and why you never said anything. I really appreciate that you
didn't pressure me to tell you before I was ready. That means a lot to me.
Thank you for being okay with it guys."
Before the last words were out of his mouth, the others had surrounded him
in a huge group hug. They all had tears in their eyes, but smiles on their
faces as they all told AJ how proud they were of him. It was a very moving
scene. After they got themselves back together, we all sat down and began
to eat. I complimented them on their cooking and they all blushed as they
said 'thank you'. Damn, the modesty runs high in this group! It was cute
though. When we were through, we quickly cleaned up and stuck the dishes in
the dishwasher and went into the living room to relax and veg in front of
the television. Well, I thought it was just to relax, but no sooner had I
sat down next to Howie did the questions start.
"So," Kevin began, "what are your intentions toward our Sweet D here? Have you picked out your china pattern yet?" I swear if that shit-eating grin
got any bigger his face was gonna crack.
"Yeah Doug, care to tell us why D was rubbing his ass this morning? Did
you work him too hard last night?" Nick's questions caused Howie to turn
bright red and I smiled at his embarrassment. Well, if they wanted to be
smart-asses, then I could be one too.
"Oh God Nick! You have no idea! We fucked like bunnies last night!
Howie's hung like a horse." The looks on their faces were priceless. Kevin
and Nick just sat there in open-mouthed shock while AJ and Brian were
laughing their asses off (and just for the record, Brian snorts a bit when
he laughs really hard). When I looked over at Howie he was trying for the
innocent and modest look, but I could tell that he was flattered. But not
to be outdone, that "innocent and modest" guy decided to get in on the act.
"Man, Doug was great last night! I didn't think I was gonna be able to sit down today! He even pinched my ass this morning!" This time, I was the
one who blushed. When I did, the guys all looked at me like I had sprouted a
tail or something.
"What," I asked, "did I leave some breakfast on my face?"
"Holy shit!" AJ exclaimed in his raspy voice while staring at my red face,
"You're blushing! Something actually made you blush! Hold on, I need to
get my phone and call a priest to check and see if Hell has frozen over!
Wow D, your ass must be something special for that type of reaction!" We
all started laughing then and I managed to get my blood to run somewhere
else besides my face. However, after a few minutes, I grew serious and felt
the need to tell the guys the truth.
"Honestly guys, Howie and I didn't do anything last night. We haven't even had the chance to talk about it yet. I know that I would be interested, but I don't know how Howie feels about all this." When I finished, everyone,
including me, looked over at Howie for an answer. The blank look on his
face was not what I was hoping for, and my chest constricted a little. 'Oh
God!' I thought, 'He's not interested.' I lowered my head to my chest as I
desperately tried to control the disappointment shredding my heart. 'What
was I hoping for anyway? He's a famous singer. Why the hell would he want
to be with--'
My thoughts were cut off as I felt a finger slip underneath my chin and
lift my head up. When I opened my eyes, I was looking into the gaze that
had so captivated me this morning. I think that my heart actually stopped
for a few seconds as my brain ceased focusing on anything besides those
gorgeous eyes and the man behind them.
"Yes," was the only word that escaped his lips as they made contact with
mine. He pulled me on top of him, and to me, everything else ceased to
exist. It was just Howie and I, joined together in that moment, frozen in
our embrace. Time came to a screeching halt for me and I knew that I could
have lived in that single kiss forever. However, that "forever" didn't
include the peanut gallery loudly cheering and whistling from their couches.
Howie and I broke apart wearing identical smiles and stared into each
other's eyes.
"God, you're beautiful," he softly whispered to me.
"So are you," I told him just as quietly. Gently, I caressed his cheek
with my hand, reveling in the warm feeling of his skin. He softly nuzzled
and kissed my palm as the guys 'awwwed' in the background. Without stopping
our display, we flipped them off and then continued to ignore them. But, as
so often happens to me, we were broken out of our little world by a loud
knock at the door. Sighing in frustration, I broke my contact with Howie
and walked through the entryway to the front door. When I pulled it open, I
was surprised to find my sister Michelle on the doorstep.
"Hey Bro! How have you been? I came by to spend some time with you this
weekend. You never come home to visit anymore," she told me in a mildly
reproachful tone. When I didn't immediately let her in she asked, "Well, am
I going to be allowed to come into the house, or should I sun myself here on
the porch?" As you can see, that smart-ass streak runs in the family.
After a bit of thought, I made my decision. "Yeah, you can come in. But," I told her with a warning in my voice, "I have guests, so behave yourself!" I led her into the living room. When she saw who was sitting there, she gasped and stopped her forward movement. Her eyes were wide and I couldn't
help but laugh at her look of complete and utter surprise. When, after a
few moments, she still hadn't moved, I grabbed her arm and dragged her into the
middle of the room.
"Guys, I would like to introduce you to my lovely sister Michelle. She's
going to be staying with us this weekend, so say hello and make nice.
Michelle I would like for you to meet my friends Kevin, Brian, Nick, AJ, and
my...," I paused here and glanced at Howie, but continued when he smiled and
nodded, "...and my boyfriend Howie." When the word 'boyfriend' left my
lips, she broke out of her statue-imitation to turn and gape at me with
shock and amazement written quite clearly across her face. If her eyes had
gotten any bigger, I don't think they would have been able to stay in her
head. She snapped out of it when I smacked her arm and she then went to sit
on the couch, obviously expecting me to tell her what the hell was going on.
With a sigh, I joined her and Howie on the couch, wrapping my arms around
his waist and began to tell her the story.
"It all began yesterday when I went to help this limo driver try to get the car he had been driving started again..." I told her. The guys would
occasionally put in their two-cents when I left something out until she
eventually had the whole story. By the end, she was smiling at me and
Howie. She grabbed me in a hug and whispered that she was proud of me for
finally catching such a great guy. However, Howie was surprised when she
then grabbed him.
"Welcome to the family. You'd better treat him right!" she told him.
"I wouldn't know how to treat him any other way," he answered back.
After that, we all sat around and just got to know each other better. The
guys seemed to like Michelle and vice versa. Every time she would talk,
Nick would get this really dopey grin on his face and hang on her every
word. Well, I had to admit that my sister had grown up to be a truly
stunning woman. She was about 5'8" and 115 pounds. She had dark brown hair
than ran down to her waist and ice blue eyes. To say she presented a nice
picture was an understatement and I could see why Nick was acting like he
was. Michelle usually had to beat men back with a stick, but I personally
think that she enjoyed the attention. If anything happened between those
two, Nick was gonna have his work cut out for him. But, that was between
them and I wasn't going to interfere in their lives unless they asked me to.
I just sat there, quietly enjoying having my arms around Howie, when Brian
spoke to me.
"Hey Doug, if there are only the two other bedrooms that we're in, where is Michelle going to sleep?"
"There's a roll-away in the office that she usually sleeps on when she's
here. I was so tired last night that I completely forgot about it, otherwise,
I would have slept on that. But now, I'm really thankful for my faulty
memory," I told him as I leaned down to give Howie another kiss. I just couldn't seem to get enough of those lips. When his tongue slipped into my mouth, I couldn't stifle the small moan that escaped. Our tongues
battled for a bit until we were brought back to reality by someone loudly
clearing their throat. We reluctantly pulled apart and mumbled sorry to the
others who just smiled at our happiness.
"Don't worry about it you two. It's really kinda cute to watch you
together. But, just because it's cute to watch, doesn't mean that it's cute
to hear. So we'd better not be kept awake tonight by any loud-ass moaning!"
Nick said as AJ snickered. After he had finished, I looked over at Michelle
and noticed that she had that look on her face. The smart-ass within was
about to break free and I doubted that it would be pretty. I was right.
"I'm surprised that you would even know what sex sounds like, Nick. But,
stick with me and I'll really show you how to make some noise," she told
him. I knew she wouldn't have missed the way he'd been staring at her.
She'd always been much too observant for that. And because of this, I don't
think that Nick had any more free blood in his system. From what I could
see, it had all run to his face and, by the look of the bulge in his shorts,
elsewhere. I knew I had to jump in to stop her when she leered at him and
made an appreciative little sound in the back of her throat. Damn, she was
evil (but in a good way)!
"Oh, leave him alone. You've embarrassed him enough for now," I scolded
her and lightly smacked her arm, "But, not to ditch you guys or anything, I
think that Howie and I need to be alone for awhile to talk so we are going
to go into the office for a little privacy." Everyone either voiced their
approval or just nodded their heads. I pulled Howie up with me off of the
couch and led him by the hand down the hall. I opened the office door and
led him over to the couch and we began to talk. We talked about our
childhoods and growing up gay. Apparently, we'd both had great families who
were very accepting of our sexuality and never treated us any differently.
His mother apparently had always treated his past boyfriends as family, and
that helped to put me at ease. Meeting your partner's parents is always a
nerve-wracking thing to do. I then started to explain my own mother to him.
He laughed when I told him that my mother was always pointing out cute
guys to me whenever we were together and commenting on their bodies. I
still found it funny that my sweet little 43 year old mother could turn into
such a pervert at the drop of a hat.
"Well, you're just going to have to tell your mom that you're not looking
anymore and that you found someone on your own," he smiled at me.
"Damn straight!" I responded, "And you can tell your mom the same thing."
