"Think they can handle it?" Lance asked as him, J.C. and Justin watched Chris and Joey drive off.
"How hard can grocery shopping be?" J.C. asked.
The three waved their friend's goodbye with doubt heavy in their minds.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay Joey, what's first on the list?" Chris asked as they got a cart.
"Um, tuna fish," Joey said, trying to decipher J.C.'s handwriting.
"Is fish frozen?" Chris asked.
"Yeah, I guess," Joey shrugged.
"Okay then, to the frozen food!" Chris smiled, leading the way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Why on earth do we need this much fish?" Chris wondered aloud, placing the three-pound, fresh tuna in the cart.
"Who knows. One down," Joey replied, crossing tuna off the list. "Next we have to get…orange?"
They stopped to think. "Orange what?" Chris asked.
"I don't know, it just says orange."
"What's the next thing?"
"Chicken breast."
"Well let's go get that then," Chris replied, leaving in the direction of the chicken.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look, I figured it out!" Chris exclaimed. He was holding a bow of Orange Meringue Chicken Breast.
"Cool. That takes care of that," Joey said, crossing off the next two items. "Now we got chips."
They looked at each other and smiled. Then they both took off for the chip isle. After filling the cart, Joey crossed off chips from the list. "Now it says bread."
The two headed to the bread isle and stood there stunned. In front of them loomed a whole row of bread, with at least fifty different kinds to chose from.
"It doesn't say what kind, does it?" Chris asked hopefully.
"No."
"Hmm."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thirty minutes later, they decided to go with the plain white bread.
"Moving on," Chris said as they walked down the isle.
"Bottled water," Joey read.
"That shouldn't be too-" Chris interrupted himself when they turned the corner and found the section of bottled water.
"Wow! This stuff if flavored!" Joey exclaimed, seeing a bottle of carbonated, flavored water.
"Awesome!" Chris agreed. "Let's get that."
"Water's water, right?" Joey shrugged, pulling down two six packs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay, last thing," Joey said, looking at the list. "Beans."
"Beans? What kind? There's sliced, diced, minced, whole, black, pinto, red, green, string, canned, fresh, chopped, chili, lima-"
"I get the point," Joey interrupted.
"Well?"
"I don't know. If you were J.C., what kind of bean would you want?"
The two looked at each other before agreeing together, "String."
After they grabbed a couple cans of string beans, they headed to the checkouts. While they were waiting in the line, Joey spotted an issue of TeenBeat. "Look at this," he laughed, showing Chris. They were plastered all over the front, along with the Backstreet Boys and 98 degrees.
"We're the best looking," Chris noted.
"Yeah. We should get our own magazine." Joey replied. They threw the magazine on their pile of groceries, so they could critique it later. They paid the cashier, who looked at them longingly the whole time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Here they are," Justin said, alerting the others.
"This will be good," Lance laughed.
Then Chris and Joey stepped on the bus, each of them carrying a bag.
"How'd it go?" asked as anxious J.C.
"Pretty good, but you need to narrow things down a bit," Joey replied as they set their bags on the table.
As J.C. checked over the items, nothing but expected disappointment showed on his face. "What is this? Orange Meringue Chicken? Where's the oranges? This isn't' water! What are we going to do with all these chips!?…"
Finnis!
