Bumper Cars

Author's Note- Another great idea that snowballed out of something non-relevant my grandfather said during lunch.

Chris sat in the corner, glaring at Justin through narrowed eyes. He pumped the gas pedal, causing the electric car to inch forward.

Justin sat on the opposite side of the bumper car rink, mimicking Chris. The others were busy running into each other, playing with all their siblings. The sounds of colliding bumpers filled the area, adding to the excitement.

"You're going to die," Chris whispered, fully aware that Justin couldn't hear him, but making sure to mouth the words clearly.

"After you," the blonde mouthed back.

Chris pulled down the sunglasses/goggles he'd become so fond of over the years. After hunching his shoulders and sliding down in the protective bumper car, he floored it, target set on Justin.

Justin shook his head and released an amused laugh. He too floored the metal car, lining up his front end directly with Chris.

"Look out!" J.C. yelled, causing the others to clear the way of the two dueling friends.

Suddenly the area between them was cleared, and Chris and Justin shot towards each other at a blinding one-mile per hour. Joey, J.C., Lance and all their siblings watched from the sidelines, clear from the wreckage.

Chris and Justin collided head on, each one bouncing off the other and spinning in the opposite direction. Justin was the first to regain control and immediately started after Chris.

Joey leaned over and asked J.C., "What happened this time?"

J.C. shrugged. "Last I heard, Chris was pissed because Justin rigged the shower."

"Rigged it how?" Joey questioned.

"Don't know, Chris was babbling too fast for me to understand."

"Hmm," Joey replied, turning his attention back to the death match in front of them.

Justin was on Chris's heels as they sped around the rink. Chris was heading straight for the wall, but looked amazingly calm. Then at the last minute, he turned, sliding in doughnuts away from the wall while Justin hit it head on.

A strangled 'Son of a-' was heard from Justin as he struggled to get away from the wall. In the meantime, Chris had circled around and was starting for Justin. He began hitting Justin's car mercilessly, laughing an evil, vengeful laugh.

"Should we separate them?" Lance asked.

"Yeah, don't you think they have a 'you break it, you buy it' deal?" Joey asked.

J.C. shook his head. "Do you think they'd mind?"

"Scatter!" Steve yelled as a desperate looking Justin pushed his way through. Lance and J.C. went spinning in opposite directions, trying to regain control of their cars before Chris hit them.

"Will you guys knock it off?" Molly yelled. "You're scaring the little kids!"

But her shouts of protest went unnoticed by the dueling singers. "JUSTIN!!" Chris screamed. "I AM GOING TO KICK YOU SCRAWNY WHITE ASS!"

Which, in a metal bumper car rink, sounds pretty pathetic. But not for Justin, who knew what an enraged Chris Kirkpatrick was capable of. Justin circled around his brother and passed Chris going the opposite direction. "You're gonna have to catch me first!" Justin yelled back.

"Stop running pussy!" Chris yelled, turning sharply and broadsiding Justin's brother.

"Language!" Steve scolded, blushing as the little kids turned to him with questioning eyes.

"Get away from me old man! You like chasing younger men or what?"

"You little fu- AHHHH!" With a growl of frustration, Chris tensed and really got serious. After sinking down further in his car, he glared at the Blonde Wonder. And Chris would later swear he saw red.

"Oh shit," Justin whispered. He looked around. There was nowhere for him to go. He was in a corner and Chris was closing in fast. "Uhhh..." Then Justin was off, scrambling across the metal floor.

Chris crashed into the empty car, then jumped out in hot pursuit.

"HEY! Get off the floor!" Lance yelled. "It's electric!"

The two battling friends froze and turned to Lance. "You're lying," Justin tested.

"I swear," Lance said. "Whatever you do, don't touch it."

Justin slowly turned and looked hopefully to the panting Chris. Chris jumped and took off again, spurring Justin into a full sprint for the side.

Sneakered feet pound the shiny metal as they thundered after each other. "HELP ME!" Justin yelled as he flew past Steve.

"Look out!" Joey laughed, alerting Justin a fraction of a second too late. Chris lunged for the blonde and grabbed his ankles, slamming both of them to the floor, just before Justin reached the grass.

With a strangled yelp and a small puff of smoke, the lights dimmed and a loud buzzing sounded before everything went dark under the wood shelter. At once, the others were out of their cars and running towards their fallen friends. "Justin! Chris!" J.C. yelled as the group of siblings surrounded them.

After pulling themselves to a sitting position, Justin and Chris looked at each other. They smelled of smoke and felt a little tired. Their bodies were numb from the mild jolt of electricity. "What the hell was that?" Chris asked, shaking his head.

"I told you!" Lance said. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, you just have to be right, don't you?" Chris shot back.

"What? No, I don't know, I mean, I just said-"

"Listen you little albino freak," Chris threatened, taking a step towards Lance. "You best be running. This little jolt fried my hair." Chris grabbed a handful of hair. "Look at this! I have SPLIT ENDS!"

Lance raised his hands and backed up. "Listen Chris, I didn't mean anything-"

"Run Lance!" Joey warned, this time before Chris made contact and allowing Lance to get a split second head start.

Justin was left with the others, blushing and slightly smoking.

"What's his problem?" J.C. asked, blowing on the wisps of smoke above Justin's head.

"Hell man, its Chris and he just downed like, four Mountain Dews. He doesn't have to have an excuse."
