The third day of the trip, it was very cold out, so they decided to have a peaceful day. Brian had left to get lunch for all of them, and Anna was in the shower. Leigh got in pajama pants and an overly big sweatshirt. She sighed as she sat down.
"What?" Nick asked.
"Nothing. I am just really happy I am here with you." she smiled.
Nick kissed her on the cheek, and then went to get drinks for them. Nick came back with two drinks and as he was putting his down, he poured the other one on Leigh, by accident.
"Nick!" Leigh shrieked as the cold soda hit her.
Nick tried not to laugh as the sight of Leigh.
"Sorry...I'll get a towel." he said through laughs.
"This is not funny." Leigh said bursting into giggles herself.
A few minutes later, Brian came back, Anna got out of the shower and Leigh changed.
After lunch, while the girls were washing the dishes, Brian pulled Nick into the other room.
"I'm telling her tonight." he said with a huge smile.
It took Nick a second to realize what Brian was talking about, then it dawned on him.
"Are you nervous?" Nick asked.
"Nah, I have a good feeling about this." Brian said.
"Nick, come in here for a minute." Leigh called out.
"Okay Mom..." Nick said teasing her.
Nick and Brian went into the kitchen, and Anna and Leigh were in front of the doorway.
"It's snowing." Leigh said taking Nick's hand.
It was beautiful. There was a light layer of snow covering the trees and ground. Nick wrapped his arms around her from behind. He hugged her tightly and kissed her on the cheek. They watched the snow fall for a few more minutes, then Brian and Nick went to light a fire.
When the guys went into the other room, Anna snuck over to Leigh.
"What do you think about Bri?" Anna whispered.
"He's very nice. He's sweet and generous. Overall a good person. Why? And why are we whispering?" Leigh said in a quiet voice.
"I think I like him." Anna blurted out.
Leigh hugged her friend.
"Aww, girl! I know he likes you too, I can tell. Tonight I will have Nick come on a walk with me, and you can talk to Brian then. Okay?" Leigh offered.
Anna smiled, said thanks and hugged Leigh.
Meanwhile, in the other room, Brian and Nick were whispering too.
"So I will go out with Leigh tonight, so you can tell Anna okay?" Nick said lighting the log.
Brian smiled nervously, "Thanks."
"Don't worry man, she will love you." Nick said.
Just then the girls walked in. They sat in front of the fire talking, laughing and having fun. A few minutes later, Anna saw Leigh look over at her, then nudged Nick.
"Wanna go for a walk?" she suggested.
"Sure." Nick said giving Brian a confused look, then they left.
Outside Nick intertwined his fingers with Leigh as they walked along.
"Why did you want to go for a walk?" Nick asked her.
"To be alone with you." Leigh said.
She wasn't exactly lying, but it wasn't the whole truth either.
"Okay, why else?" Nick pushed on.
"Well, Anna likes Brian and she wanted to talk to him, okay?" Leigh said giving in.
"Brian is going to be happy. That's why I left them too. Brian wanted to talk to Anna." Nick said.
Leigh giggled, "That's so cute."
"What about wanting to be alone with me?" Leigh asked.
"Oh yeah, that too." Nick teased.
"Funny Carter, real funny."
Back in the cottage, Brian and Anna got drinks for themselves then sat back down by the fire.
"Isn't it nice to see Nick and Leigh so happy together?" Brian commented.
"Yeah, I wish I had that." she said hinting.
Brian smiled, "You could, you know." he said a little shyly.
"Oh really?" Anna said.
Brian cleared his throat, "Anna I like you. And I hope you feel the same way about me, because I want to be with you." Brian said quickly.
Anna smiled, "You don't know how much I really do like you."
"So will you be my girlfriend?" Brian asked with a huge smile.
"Of course." she said.
Then in front of the warm, crackling fire, they shared their first kiss.
