The Virus-A Metaphoric View of Ignorance

Date: ?/?/99

When man was but a child,
an evil was dispensed-
Violent, deadly, and wild.
A horrid pestilence
upon the human mind.

Spawned from the mind of one,
the plague spread like wildfire-
swirling like the burning sun.
Its victims rest upon a pyre,
and it moves, leaves them behind.

Callous regard for life,
has this dread infection-
It overcomes the world with strife.
Whilst diseased claim perfection
their souls away they've signed.

Will this thing never be gone?
Not unless we all take a hand
can this endless battle be won.
For the venom still eats the land,
poisons some, they don't know why.

What then is this vile creature?
This incarnate of evil?
The shadow killer without a cure?
It must be named, and yet still
this virus is like no other kind.

For the disease is called ignorance,
and it has followed humanity since
the dawn of what was once intelligence.
It lives in the hearts of those without sense
of greater purpose in life.
