“It was a lot of fun,” Madeleine answered, forcing a smile. “Leighanne and Brian looked so happy together, and everyone missed you. You got hellos from just about everyone there you’d met.”
“I wish I could’ve been there. I’m sure you looked beautiful.”
She laughed. “Actually, Brad, the bride is the one who’s supposed to look beautiful, not the maid of honor.”
“Well, I don’t think you could help it if you tried. Hopefully I didn’t lose you to some hot Florida guy,” he teased.
Luckily, she wasn’t looking at him at the moment, because her smile faded for a second. She quickly plastered it back on. “Of course you didn’t.”
“Hey, by the way, did you decide about going to Miami next week with us?”
She frowned. “Actually, I did, and I don’t think I can miss the school. I mean, that’s my second week. I would feel terrible skipping out of it.”
“Okay, I understand. I promise I won’t pick up a girl while I’m down there.”
“I’m sorry. I wish I could go, but I have other stuff to do.”
“That’s okay, sweetie. I don’t blame you.”
