Chapter 10

After going through emotional hell in his conscience, Nick realized he had to do something about the situation he was in. It had been four days since Liz had blown up at him, and he had thought about it the whole time. Maybe he was wrong in giving up her friendship. If Andrea couldn’t trust him around any of his other his female friends, either, he was going to live a pretty crappy life if he stayed with her. For now, he had worked something temporary out that he hoped Liz would agree with. That was one of the reasons he found himself standing before her door, ready to sort things out with her. He did not want to lose her friendship.

Almost involuntarily, he knocked. This was not something he was particularly looking forward to. She wasn’t going to want to see him. Hopefully, there was nothing in the room she could throw at him. He almost turned back, but then the door opened, and Liz gave him a glare. “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Hey, relax. I just came to apologize for being such an asshole,” he stated defensively.

“Well, I think I deserve an apology, so come in,” she muttered, stepping aside. When they sat down on the couch, she looked at him expectantly.

“I’ve been thinking, and I realize that my relationship with Andrea isn’t important enough to give up my friendship with you. However, no offense, but I’m not sure I’m ready to give up my relationship with her so that I can keep our friendship.”

“Well, she’s made it clear that it’s one or the other, Nick, so you have to choose.”

“Not necessarily. I don’t know if you’ll like this idea, but I think it would work pretty well for a while. Maybe you and I should just hang out in big groups. Then she’ll think we were both invited by someone else, and I’m not spending time with you on purpose.”

“I think it’s a solution for now, but it won’t last very long, so you’re gonna have to make a decision later on.”

“I know, but I need to think about it a little more, and in the mean time, I don’t wanna lose contact with you. I mean, I know it seems a little late for that, but please cut me some slack.”

“Fine, I guess I can handle that,” she sighed. “I admit that I do miss hanging out with you.”

“Well, you wanna hang out tonight? The guys are going clubbing, and they invited me along. You can just say that Brian asked you to go if Andrea comes along, which I don’t think she will. He’ll cover for us, I’m sure.”

“That sounds great. Give me a few minutes to get ready and then I’d love to go. I’m a mess right now.”

“Yeah, right. I think you’re very pretty. I’ll bet all girls wanna look like you.”

She blushed slightly. “Whatever, I wish.”

While Nick waited on the sofa, Liz quickly touched up her makeup and changed into a pair of black leather pants and a blue halter top. After he checked to make sure Andrea wasn’t in the hall, she grabbed her purse, and they slipped out of her room, unnoticed.
