Chapter 15

Nick kissed Laurie gently on the cheek and opened her door for her. “I had a good time tonight,” she told him.

“I did, too,” he lied. Actually, Laurie’s had probably been the most boring date he had ever gone on. She was nice, and they had potential for a friendship, but definitely not his girlfriend type.

“You don’t look like you really want a second date,” she stated.

“Listen, Laurie. You’re really nice, and I like you, but…”

“You just didn’t feel any chemistry there. I understand. I really didn’t feel much either,” she said honestly.

“I’m sorry. I just don’t think I’m ready for a relationship right now. I would really like to stay friends, though.”

“No problem. That would be nice. I’m glad you were honest with me.” She shivered from the breeze and smiled slightly. “You have someone else on your mind, don’t you?”

“Sort of… To make a long story short, I’m an idiot.”

“I hope things work out for you.”

“Thanks.”

“See you later.”

“Bye,” he said. She watched as he turned and began to walk back to his car and then closed the door.

He pulled out of the driveway, thankful that that had gone so well. This was the fourth unsuccessful date he had been on since he had stopped seeing Heather two months ago. It was incredibly frustrating. How long could it take to get over a girl you never even dated?

When he noticed where he was, he impulsively pulled over and stopped the car to take a walk. He needed to clear his mind, and the waves always helped him do that.
