Chapter 16

“Jess, I have a huge favor to ask of you,” Lauren said.

“Are you and Nick back together?” Jessica replied.

“No, but-“

“Then I shouldn’t even be talking to you.”

“Jess, please! Will you just listen to me?”

“What do you want me to do?” Jessica groaned.

“Can you take Danny Friday night? Nick and I are going to Brian’s anniversary party in Orlando. We would pick him up on Saturday morning.”

“What?”

“Yes, it’s a date. One date, Jess. Big deal. And I’m only doing this because I want to see all the guys again.”

“Well, I’d be happy to take Danny, especially if it involves you and Nick on a date.”

“Great. I’ll drop him off around four. Then I can go home and get ready.” When she hung up, she went into the living room where Nick and Danny were watching Aladdin. “Jess is babysitting on Friday night.”

“Okay,” Nick replied. He turned to his son. “You hear that? Aunt Jess is watching you Friday.”

Danny’s face lit up. “Yay!”

Lauren looked at him and recognized the eyes, the hair, and the smile as Nick’s. “He really does look like you.”

“He looks more like you. He’s too cute to look like me,” Nick said deliberately. He looked at Lauren to see her reaction, hoping she’d argue with him, but she figured out what he was doing.

“Nice try, Nick. I’m going upstairs.”
