“And what’s wrong with that?” Jessica asked.
“I don’t want a boyfriend, especially not a guy who’s already broken my heart.”
As Lauren continued to talk about why she was making the wrong decision, Jessica clicked off the TV and interrupted her. “You know what your problem is, Lauren? You need to take more risks! You never do anything that has more than a two-percent chance of you getting hurt. You need to quit playing it safe.” When Lauren didn’t reply, Jessica continued. “You love him so much, and you’re tearing yourself up because of it, but you refuse to take him back. Can I give you some advice?”
“What?” Lauren said.
“Don’t let him get away, Lauren. He loves you more than anything.”
“He only loves me because it’s convenient. I’m the mother of his kid.”
“Now you know that’s not true, Lauren. Call me back when you and Nick are back together.” With that, Jessica hung up.
“Now what do I do?” Lauren muttered as she grabbed her purse. She took one last look at her apartment before she headed down to her loaded car. ‘This is a mistake,’ she thought.
