Before she knew it, she was in Nick’s driveway. She immediately went up to what had been their room and threw everything she could into her suitcases for the third time that summer. Suddenly, it occurred to her to make peace with her mom. She could talk to Jessica again and her mom would pay for her schooling. “Hmm. Fate did work everything out,” Lauren muttered.
As she was leaving the house, something sitting on the coffee table caught her eye. It was a photograph of her and Nick that Brian had taken. They looked so happy together. She picked it up and tore it down the center, separating their smiling faces. Quickly, she ran back up to Nick’s room and put the two pieces on the pillow before running out the front door, closing a chapter of her life.
