As if he could read her mind, Nick spoke up. “Are you gonna be okay if you see him there?”
“Honestly, I don’t know, but I’m going anyway. I’m gonna have to face him sooner or later, and it will help to have you by my side.”
As soon as they arrived, they found Josh and Hillary making out in the hallway. Nick squeezed Lila’s hand and led her past them into the living room. “Do you want a drink?” he asked. “After that, you could probably use one, huh?”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were trying to get me drunk, Carter,” she teased. “Yeah, I’ll have a wine cooler.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
They had each consumed two drinks and were having a great time when Nick went to get another for each of them. While he was gone, Hillary found Lila. “Thank you so much.”
“What?” Lila asked, surprised.
“Thanks for giving Josh to me. He’s great in bed,” Hillary said snidely.
Lila didn’t notice that Nick had found them. “No, thank you, Hillary. Josh really isn’t all that wonderful of a boyfriend, and you showed me that. Oh, and about the bed thing? I really wouldn’t know because I’m not his little slut like you.” She smiled, satisfied, and looked up to see Nick holding in laughter. He pulled her off the couch and led her onto the patio, where they both died laughing.
“Damn, girl! I didn’t know you could be such a bitch!” he exclaimed. “That was awesome!”
“She was asking for it,” Lila giggled. She grabbed his hand and led him down to the beach. “Can we just hang out here for a while, away from everyone else?”
“Sure, whatever you want,” he answered, wrapping his arm around her. They finished their third drinks quickly, and since neither of them were very used to alcohol, they were both rather drunk. As she leaned into his shoulder, he looked back to see Josh and Hillary watching them from the patio, and an idea formed in his mind. “Don’t look behind us. Josh and his little slut are watching us from the patio, and he looks pretty damn jealous. Just play along.”
She looked up at him, confused, but everything fell into place as his lips met hers. This was an act to make Josh even more jealous. His tongue traced the outline of her lips before she parted them. She gently pushed him back on the sand as his hands entangled themselves in her hair. Though this was just an act, but both of them forgot that; the passion was definitely real. Everything else seemed to disappear, including Josh and Hillary watching from the patio. He freed his hands and ran them down her sides, stopping at the hem of her shirt, which he delicately began to lift. She stopped him and leaned down to whisper in his ear. “Not here. Let’s go back to your hotel.”
Since it wasn’t far and neither of them were in the condition to drive, they walked back to Nick’s hotel, anxious to continue where they left off.
Nick opened his door and pulled Lila inside. “I love you,” he whispered in her ear as he lay her down on the bed.
“I love you, too,” she replied.
