“Oh my God, Nick, I didn’t know you were here. You scared the shit out of me,” she gasped.
“Sorry. You were really upset last night, so I just stayed here in case you needed me.”
She paused. “Thanks. I have Calculus this morning, so I better get up and get ready.”
“Listen, Li. You didn’t sleep at all last night. I heard you tossing and turning and occasionally sniffling all night. No offense, but right now, you look like you just got run over by a truck. You have got to be exhausted. Do you really think you should be going to class, with the condition you’re in? I think you should just stay here.”
“Believe me, if I could stay here, I would, but I can’t afford to miss any more of that class. I’ve missed so many days already because it starts so early. You know I’m not a morning person.”
“So you’re sure you have to go?”
“Yes.” She jumped down from her bunk and grabbed an oversized tee and a pair of denim shorts from her dresser.
“Okay. Just don’t work too hard.”
“I won’t. I never do.”
He put his arm around her and laughed. “That’s my girl.”
“See you later.”
“Yeah, bye!”
