Part 38:

David ducked around the corner as Paul neared Lou's office and he took a
deep breath. That was close he thought, no wonder Lou looked worried when
he brought up his name. He glanced at his watch and realized it was almost
four, he'd missed his meeting with the group by hours. Taking out his cell
phone he decided to make a couple quick calls to his office and head back,
it was time to go through everything again with a fine tooth comb.


By the time David walked through the office, his secretary waved him over.
"E's been calling every twenty minutes."

"Did she leave a number?"

"No said if you came in to tell you to wait in your office and she'd keep
trying. It sounds really important."

"All right. You can go early if you want, I'll be researching all night."

"You sure?"

"Yeah go ahead."


E sat with the wives around the table, she'd called David's office ten
minutes before. "Where could he be?"

"Maybe he had a meeting or something. You could fax him the information."

"Not till we talk. I think he was doing some checking into Lou's
companies. Do you know what this means if this is true, that Lou's been
using possibly illegal money to fund his groups?? It would be no wonder
why he settled with NSync to keep them quiet. Not only would it ruin him,
he'd be sent to jail for a long time, even if he did give up his partners.
And his partners probably wouldn't be to thrilled about that concept
either."

"Which means they might want to hurt him?" Lis asked, trying not to break
into a smile.

"Yep. How sad." Ty added sarcastically.


"You again. Look didn't we settle this yesterday?" Taylor said, glaring at
the two women on her doorstep.

"Well you thought so, but we didn't. Plus we've found some very
interesting new information." Alec said pushing her way inside.

Jenn nodded her agreement, "Just wanted to run it past you incase you have
anything to add."

Taylor groaned and shut the door. "Fine, just make it quick. Keith will be
home from football practice soon." she sat on the couch. 

Alec pulled out her tape recorder and set it down. "Are you sure that
Kevin really is your son's father."

"Look how many times do I have to tell you that? Why won't it sink in?"

"It might if I hadn't met someone today who said something totally
opposite," she clicked the tape on and Will's voice filled the room. When
he was done saying his little father bit she turned it off, "You do know
Will Jackson don't you? Rather nice man, picked your son up this morning
and took him to school. Uncanny resemblance to Kevin though."

Taylor glared at Alec, "Doesn't matter what Will thinks... I KNOW the
truth."

"If your so sure then you won't mind Keith taking a blood test now will
you." Jenn said, entering into the conversation.

"My son doesn't have to do anything."

"No?? Well I think Will's words on this tape might just make Kevin and a
court order a paternity test. Just to make sure there's no doubt as to who
the father really is."

Taylor shook her head, "You bitch!"

Before Jenn knew what was happening Alec had crossed the room and slapped
Taylor across the face, "No your the bitch for lieing like this. Your
messing with peoples lives."

"Get out!"

Jenn shook her head, "Not till you answer, yes or no is Keith Kevin's
son."

She rubbed her cheek which was still stinging from Alec's blow,
"No...Kevin and I were broken up when I was pregnant. He'd been in Europe
for over four months when I found out about Keith."

Alec took a deep breath, "How much was Lou paying you to lie?"

"Enough for Keith's college education. That's all that ever mattered."

"I can't believe you." Alec said grabbing her purse. "This information
nearly cost Kevin his marriage..."


David answered the phone, "Summers."

"Finally!! Where have you been the last two hours?"

"Meeting with Lou."

"WHAT?"

"I decided to poke around a little, see what his response was to talking
about Paul. He went a little pale and kinda stalled. But the most
interesting thing happened when I almost walked out of TransCon, Paul
walked right past me and I followed him straight up to Lou's office. Then
I came back and did some checking around. Apparently Paul's been in town
at least four days and has had at least one meeting a day with Lou."

"Well that could work to our benefit..."

"What did you find?"

"We did some digging and found some questionable files about Lou. In the
papers of the lawsuit it looks like they alleged questionable money was
used to back them."

"Which them?" he asked, he hadn't done much digging past the Backstreet
Lawsuit

"NSync. Looks like that may be why he settled with them so quickly. I think
now's the time to talk to them and see what they say. If Lou's so
vindictive he'd do this to Backstreet, there's no saying he wouldn't pull
the same stunt on them either."

"That might just be the key to getting them to cooperate. That means your
all heading back?"

"Would think so. Just need to wait for Alec and Jenn to come back from
Louisville and we should be on our way."

"Let me know when your coming in, I'll set up a meeting between the guys
and the wives. We can fill both sides in on everything."
