Part 36: *********************************************************************** "Given Brian's little incident today maybe we should do what Lou wants. Lull him into thinking we're all wanting to protect ourselves." AJ suggested. "And end up hating ourselves for being associated with him?" D asked in disbelief. "No...I think I get what what J's talking about," Nick said, "We go back and Lou might slip up somehow...and at least for the time being it would get him off D's back. Won't have to worry about him sending the feds that paperwork right now." D shook his head, "I can't ask you guys to do that." "Howie its not just you he's messing with. He's messed with all of us. And I want to get him back." Brian said seriously. "We all do." Nick agreed. Alec laid in bed, listening to the tape of the meeting with Taylor through her earphones. Jenn was all ready sound asleep over in the other bed but she couldn't just fall asleep. There was something that seemed off in the way Taylor talked. The tape clicked to an end and she hit rewind, coming to the conclusion she'd head over in the morning and talk to her again, this time alone. ~Next morning~ Jenn sat up in bed and saw the other bed empty, "Alec?" she called, slowly getting out of bed. She found a folded up piece of paper with her name on it. ~Jenn...went out for a little while, be back before lunch. Alec~ "Please don't tell me you went to see Taylor." Jenn said outloud reaching for the phone. She'd been about to call her but then decided against it. Alec watched from her car as the little boy jumped into what looked like a car pool van. Her eyes widened as the driver stepped out and went to shut the van door. The man was nearly a double of Kevin, she took a deep breath and wondered for a minute if he wasn't. She hadn't heard from him at all since he'd left the house. Watching him get back into the van she started the engine and pulled out into the street, deciding to follow the van. David called Nick's cell number and flipped through the stack of files on the desk. He figured it was time for a progress report. "Carter." Nick answered, he figured it wouldn't be Lis given the early hour. "Nick hi its David." "Hi David, how's the investigation going." "Thats just what I wanted to talk to you about. Do you think the five of you could come down to the office?" "Not sure if all five of us could but I'll try to get everyone. What time?" "Say around one?" "Sure see you then." Alec parked a few spots away from the van and got out as she saw him walk inside the coffee place. She walked quickly inside and ordered herself a coffee and headed over to the nearest table beside him. Sensing someone's eyes on him, he glanced over and smiled seeing a woman watching him intently. "Hello." Alec's eyes widened, "Hi." "Enjoying your coffee?" She nodded, "You?" "Yeah. Had to run out of the house this morning to pick my son up so I missed my morning java but I'm wide awake now." "That's good. Has anyone ever told you you look a lot like Kevin from the Backstreet Boys?" He laughed, "Get that all the time. Going to the mall is nearly impossible...I've gotten mobbed a couple times. Especially when the real Kevin was in town." Alec laughed, "Must be a little weird." "Its more fun than anything. I'm just regular Will Jackson till a group of fans walk by me. Let me guess, the reason you were watching me you thought I was Kevin too?" She blushed, "A little yeah. The resemblance is a little scary." "I give up." Lis said tossing the stack of printouts down. Shan shook her head, "Why?" "The words are running together. I don't even know what I'm reading!! I know I took some law courses before but this stuff makes no sense." "Well David did send up that law book to help us." "Why don't you read for awhile?" Lis suggested. "Fine." Shan grabbed the stack of printouts and started to go through them. "So what did Brian say last night?" Shan groaned, "I thought I was supposed to be concentrating on finding Lou's secrets." "Well you are, but you can talk and read." "You aren't gonna let up are you?" "Probably not." "Fine, he went after Lou...then he started talking about some other stuff...me and our relationship. Said Cliff found some things out but he didn't want to explain anything over the phone." "He's probably afraid you'd hang up on him if he started to." "Maybe. Its just hard for me to trust him again." The group walked into David's office and looked around, it was deserted. Even his secretary was no where in sight. "Anyone else have that bad feeling right now?" AJ asked looking around. "Bit, I keep having flashbacks to 'The Firm' where that guy came in the office and shot the detective." Brian said and shrugged as Nick turned his head and glared at him. "What?" "Brian your crazy." He gave Nick a cheeky smile. "I am, but its a nice crazy." Nick shook his head, "I'll check David's office." he said and headed down the little hallway, knocking on the door. When no one answered, he opened it slowly and glanced inside. No one was there but there was an envelope on the table with Nick's name on it. He walked over and picked it up, pulling out the paper inside. ~Nick Sorry about this, got a rather important phone call about twenty minutes before we were supposed to meet. Has to do with your case so I hope you understand. I'll call you as soon as I know when I can reschedule. Sorry for the inconvenience. ~ He tucked the envelope in his jacket pocket and walked out to find the guys sitting in the waiting room. "David had something come up, about our case so he went to check into it. Said he'll call to reschedule." "Why couldn't he call and let us know?" Kevin questioned. "Dunno, maybe he was too busy. Might as well go." Jenn jumped as Alec walked into the hotel room, a large smile on her face. "What happened to you? Oh no you didn't kill Taylor did you?" "Didn't even need to see the wicked witch." Alec said tossing her jacket down. "Then what happened?" "I found Keith's real father." "You did?? How?" "I drove by the house when he was picking him up. Oh you ought to see him, he looks so much like Kevin its scary!!" "Did he admit he's his father?" "Yeah, and I have it on tape." she pulled the tape recorder out of her pocket. "Now the only thing left to do is confront Taylor and we can go home." "Find anything?" Ty asked, coming downstairs. "Zilch." Lis said, getting up from the computer. She looked over at Shan who hadn't said anything. "Shan?" "Shhhh!!!" she said putting her hand up to make them be quiet. She reread the paragraph one more time then checked the other printout. "Oh my god...you won't believe this!!"
