BOYS OF THE NIGHT - #22

Kevin awoke the next afternoon to AJ's boney elbow digging deeply into his ribs. His side took the blow fully, and he caught his breath in his throat. Kevin touched a hand to his sore flank when the sleeping vampire next to him rolled over, snuggling up to his back.
AJ sighed contentedly in his sleep. He rubbed his shoulders against Kevin's. Kevin rolled his eyes and got as comfortable as he could, considering that he was about an inch from the edge of the bed and that the blanket was stolen from him, exposing his near-nude body to the frigid, air-conditioned temperature of the room. Not to mention the fact that AJ's snoring was going keep him awake, no matter how comfortable he was or wasn't. He cursed himself under his breath for being such a light sleeper and looked over at AJ who was smiling in his slumber. Damn him, he thought and tried to get back to sleep.
Just as soon as Kevin closed his eyes, he abruptly opened them when AJ turned over and wrapped an arm around his waist, tossing a leg over Kevin's boxer-clad hip. Kevin quickly reacted by standing up, getting out of the hold as fast as he could.
"Oh no... no, no, no, AJ. I'm sorry, but no," he said quietly, stuffing a pillow under AJ's arm and leg, where he had been trapped.
The Gangrel squeezed it close, sighing again. Kevin ran a hand through his own black hair, realizing he could have been the victim of AJ's choke-hold snuggling attack. For the third time that day. He looked helplessly at his mate.
"Oh God, AJ... when are you gonna go back to your own room?" he whined, knowing damn well he wouldn't receive a reply. He breathed deeply, gazing down at his partner. "Fine, then. I'll go on the couch."
AJ released the pillow from his grip and stretched out, his limbs thrown all over the bed, reaching to all corners of it. He moaned lightly, obviously enjoying his dream.
Kevin couldn't help but smile at him - he was funny even in his sleep. They'd been angry with each other earlier, but now, Kevin felt absolutely no animosity towards him.
Some light was shining through a crack in the window, which had heavy winter blankets strewn over it. Kevin walked over and straightened it so that the sun wouldn't touch his mate - AJ in particular hated the sun. When he turned back to him, he was already in a different position, his arm and head hanging off of the bed. His mouth was wide open, and his insistent snoring was starting to get obnoxious.
Kevin walked out of the open bedroom door and headed downstairs, careful of the wood floor so that it didn't creak and wake the others. He passed Nick's room, and peered inside. The bed was ripped apart and no one was in it. Thinking nothing of this, he kept creeping down the hall until he reached the stairs where he leaned over and looked at the couch. It was not being occupied by someone else.
"Good," he said as he stepped down to the living room. He laid down on the leather. It was cool against his hot skin. Kevin smiled happily to himself... and then it hit him... hard.
He sat up sharply and nearly screamed.
Throwing the light afgan off of him, he practically flew up the stairs to his room, where the sleeping AJ lay on his bed, now with one arm thrown out and the other across his bare chest. The blanket was twisted around his waist. Kevin grabbed the edge of it an yanked as hard as he could, successfully lifting AJ up and then tossing him into the air. He landed with a loud thud on the hard wood floor.
"WAKE UP, AJ!!!"
AJ pushed himself off the ground and stood, now completely awake. "WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR DAMAGE, TRAIN?!" he screamed angrily at Kevin who was standing before him. Kevin looked away, shielding his eyes, and picked up the pair of silk boxers on the floor and threw them at AJ, who looked at them questioningly, and then at himself. He gasped, realizing he was naked. Totally naked. Turning his back to Kevin, he pulled them on and then whipped around.
"Like I said before, WHAT THE HELL?"
"SHE'S GONE!!!"
"She? She??? OH... HOLY SHIT... THE GIRL?" he roared in disbelief.
"YES! COME ON! WE HAVE TO FIND HER! HOW FAR DO YOU THINK SHE COULD'VE GOTTEN?" Kevin asked, running out the door.
"I DUNNO. I'LL GET BRI UP. GO GET HOWIE AND NICK!" AJ yelled back.

AJ pounded on Brian's closed door. No one replied from within. Frustrated, he kicked it in - it slammed into the wall loudly. "WAKE THE FUCK UP, ROK!"
Brian lazily turned his face to his friend, panting in his doorway. He looked AJ up and down through half-closed blue eyes, annoyed, but still half-asleep.
"Wha tha hell are you doink, AJah?" he asked, his speech slurred.
"SHE'S FUCKING GONE! BARB IS GONE!"
He nodded and turned back over so that he faced away from AJ. "Uh-hmmm... Yea... Later..."
"BRIAN - THE GIRL IS GONE. DISAPPEARED. FAR AWAY. WE ARE RUINED," AJ said loudly.
Brian, suddenly awakened by this news, pushed his torso up on his arms. "You're sure?"
"KEV SAID SHE'S GONE! NOW GET YOUR ASS UP!"

Howie walked out of his room, only to be run into by Kevin. They collided, Kevin grabbing Howie by the arm and pulling him up before he fell to the floor.
"What the hell is going on out here?" he asked, looking puzzled at his elder.
"BARB'S GONE! SHE'S NOT HERE! WE HAVE TO FIND HER!" he screamed back in one big breath.
Howie nodded, his already big brown eyes nearly covering his face as they widened further than one would think humanly or vampirely possible. They ran down the stairs, side-by-side.

AJ and Brian ran after them, trying desperately to keep up. Kevin, who was in the lead, stopped suddenly, making them all jump back and hit each other. It would have been a humorous scene had the situation not been so threatening to their lives. They looked over Kevin's broad shoulders, Howie having to stand on tip-toe to see.
Nick stood at the bottom of the stairs, looking up, confused. His hair was touseled and messy from sleep. His eyes were slitted.
"What are you all doing?" he asked calmly, one hand on his hip the other supporting his body on the railing post.
"BARB IS GONE!" Kevin shouted, his voice strained with fear and anger.
Nick furrowed his brow intently at them. "Um. No... she's in the kitchen... she woke me up a little while ago and I was gonna make her something to eat," he said.
Kevin stared at him. "In the kitchen?"
"Yes, in the kitchen. You know... where most people eat?"
"The kitchen?" he asked again.
"YES! What, are you having trouble processing this, or something? God," Nick said, slightly pissed off, as he stumbled away, back to the dining room, still half-unconscious in the midday.
Kevin turned around sheepishly as the other Boys glared at him.
AJ moaned and slammed a fist onto the railing. "Man, Kev, I'm gonna kill you."
Kevin turned around and looked sheepishly at the expectant Backstreet Boys behind him on the stairs. He was about to say something in his own defense when a sound interrupted.
A shrill scream frightened them all - and it was coming from the kitchen...
