BOYS OF THE NIGHT - #21



Kevin lightly ran his fingers over Nick's babyfine hair,
letting it slip through them. He heard Nick's breath, soft and
slow, and matched his own to it's rhythm.
The sun began to show through the clouds, banishing back the
comfortable shadows. Kevin felt the restlessness in him build upon
itself, urging him to run from the light.
He'd let Nick cuddle with him for more than an hour and now, he
wanted them both to get to bed.
"Nick?" he whispered.
The blonde stirred. "Yeah?"
"Time to go to your bed."
"Okay." Nick sat up and stood. He yawned. Kevin rubbed his
back gently - in between his shoulder blades. Nick arched to his
palm, purring softly.
"Goodnight," Kevin said quietly. He brushed past his son.
"Night."
He turned to Nick. He saw a look of love in the Toreador's
eyes - there was no more hate left. This pleased him. "Tomorrow
night, we'll go hunting. Just you and me."
"Like we should have... a long time ago?" he asked meekly.
They were silent.
"Yeah. A long time ago," Kevin said rather subduedly, as if recalling something.
"Okay," Nick replied. He watched as Kevin smiled to him and
nodded uneasily - an awkward expression. He had no clue to how to take care of a teen, or how to talk to one. Kevin trudged up the stairs, dragging himself to bed.
Nick was alone. He looked around himself and realized he
didn't want to be close to Barb tonight. He had to distance himself
- they would be taking her back soon, wiping away her memory of the
entire incident. When Kevin was done clearing her mind, she
wouldn't remember even meeting Nick. A tear trailed down his cheek,
knowing that he'd have to let go of her. He laid down on the couch,
pulling a blanket off of the back of it and curling up in it. By
the time he fell asleep, the sun was peeking up from the horizon
