"I Shall Believe" - Sequel to "Black Dove January"
Chapter 6
ŠLyndsay, 2000. Stealing is bad, mmkay? 

RECAP : 
Raegan's father showed up unexpectedly. Kevin told him to get lost. He left, 
but not before saying things weren't over yet.

                       "So he just showed up?", Brian asked incrediously. 

                   "Yup. I swear, Bri.. it was all I could do to keep from 
killing that son of a bitch." Anger flashed in Kevin's eyes as he thought 
back to what had happened that morning. 

                 "How's Raegan taking it?" 

                  Kevin sighed. "Not too good. She doesn't understand.... She 
says he wants something. That he's up to no good."

                  "I'd have to agree with her there.  What other reason would 
he have for showing up? And denying doing all those things to her.... It just 
doesn't make sense."

                 "Well I got news for him. If he so much as comes near Raegan 
again, I'm gonna - " 

                 Brian cut him off. "You're going to restrain yourself from 
doing anything bad. Who knows what that man is capable of. The last thing we 
need is for something to happen to you or Raegan. The police can handle it." 

              "Yeah, I guess you're right."

             "No, you KNOW I'm right."

             "Since when are you the one giving lectures? Isn't that my job?" 
, Kevin joked, trying to lighten the conversation. 

            "My God.... you're right...... I am lecturing, aren't I? 
H...he...help me! I'm turning into Kevin!" Brian grabbed his throat in mock 
terror. 

             
            The ringing of the doorbell interrupted their fun. Kevin got up 
to answer it.

                 Raegan tossed and turned in her bed, having the first 
nightmare she'd had in a week.  Her father was chasing after her and it 
seemed no matter how hard she'd run, he would keep gaining ground. 

               Her legs were tiring and breathing was becoming more difficult 
as time wore on. Every time she looked back, it seemed her father was getting 
closer. Closer. Closer. Only a few inches away now.............. 

             His hand reached out and gripped her shoulder. 

            "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" 

           
           Raegan awoke with a start, grabbing the hand that had touched her 
shoulder and shaking it off furiously. 

           "Get away from me!", she cried, tears running down her face. 

           "Ssssh... Rae....sweetie, it's Kevin." 

           Her eyes looked up into a familiar pair of green ones and 
instantly she calmed down. 

             His arms encircled her as he sat down on the bed. "Another 
nightmare?" 

              She nodded, noticing the envelope he held in his hand.  "What's 
that?" 

             Kevin hesitated. He didn't want to upset her any more than she 
already was. 

          Raegan could see the worry in his eyes and didn't like it at all. 
"What's wrong? What's in that envelope, Kev?"
