Chapter 8

Yvette covered her head in her hands as she looked at AJ, sleeping next to her.

"Shit" she whispered thinking the worst, as tears started streaming down her cheeks. She wasn't aware that AJ was only shirtless. AJ stirred lightly and opened his eyes slowly. As she saw this, Yvette shook him ,until he was fully awake. "AJ, what the hell happened here and what the hell are you doing here?"

He looked at her strangely. "Don't you remember?" "Remember what? I swear, I'm not going to drink anymore." Yvette replied, covering her face with her hands.

"Sweetie, you asked me if I could stay here with you last night. That's the last thing I remember. Nothing happened, or at least that's what I think… I still have my clothes on…" he answered with a shrug, showing her that indeed he had his pants and sneakers on.

"Then, why the hell am I topless?" she said, looking down at her body. "Thank God I have everything else on…" she thought

"You got me there" he said. "But I think we didn't do anything"

"Oh my God… what am I going to say to Nick? What is he going to think?" she asked, covering herself with the sheets and getting out of bed. As she got out, she saw a folded paper with her name written on the night stand. She blinked her eyes a couple of times, not believing the handwriting that was there.

"Oh my God" she thought as she opened it.

Yvette:
I don't know why am I writing you this or why do I even care. I came here to surprise you and to spend a couple of days with you and what do I find? You and AJ in our bed. I still can't believe you did this to me. But, you know what? It's not even worth it to talk about it, when I saw it with my own eyes. I don't want to ever see you again and my lawyers will be contacting you very soon with the divorce. I don't want to have anything to do with you, after what I saw. I love you more than my life but that is not going to change what I saw. I thought you loved me with the same intensity I did. But, you lied to me and that's something that I can't really forgive. I wish you the best in your life and in years to come.
Nick

Yvette sighed softly, folded the letter and put it on the night stand where it was. She turned to AJ with tears in her eyes.

"Nick broke up with me"

AJ moved from the side of the bed to the edge, where Yvette was seated and hugged her tight.

"Why AJ?" she cried, holding him.

"I don't know Yve… You have to talk to him and reassure him that we didn't do anything… or at least I think we didn't do anything"

"AJ, we didn't do anything. You're with your clothes on and I am too. If we had done something, both of us would be naked" Yvette reasoned, getting away from her bed and going out the room. She intended to find Nick, however she could. She even hoped that he was still in the house. She went outside the house to breathe a little fresh air.

Nick sat at the beach nearby looking at the ocean, trying to find tranquility within himself. He knew that it was a drastic decision he had made in that letter, but it was the only thing that he could think about at the moment. He started thinking about the times that they had together, lowering his head. As tears started trickling from his eyes, he thought about his wife being with his best friend. Why did she do it? Was it because he was never there? Why did she do it a couple of weeks after their wedding? Those questions were going to remain unanswered, because he didn't mean to find an answer to them. Not for now though. As he looked behind him, his thoughts were completely interrupted by Yvette standing there, willing to explain everything that happened to him.
