Chapter 6

Tiff was almost done with her book when a soft knock sounded at her door. She placed it down with a slip of paper marking her spot and went to answer it. She opened the door to find Kevin leaning against the door frame. "Hey. You doing anything right now?"

"Not really...Why?"

"Wanna go grab some coffee?"

"Um...sure. Let me quick go brush my hair and I should change my shirt and..."

"You look fine, but do what you want. I'll wait out here..."

"Ok..." She quickly ran a brush through her hair, changed into a button down shirt, put on a light coat of lip gloss and looked at herself in the mirror. This is good as it gets... She then slid on her sneakers and went out in the hall. Kevin looked up at her, a mask hiding his true feelings.

She's beautiful...she just doesn't seem to realize it.

Tiff took another sip of her cappuccino, the warm foam sliding gently down her throat. She looked up to find a grin spread across Kevin's face. "What's so funny?" she asked.

He picked up his napkin and reached across the table. "You have a mustache..." he said as he gently wiped it off. Her cheeks deepened to an odd shade of crimson as she shyly looked down. "Don't be embarrassed...it was cute." Her eyes darted up in surprise to find him still smiling.

After the check came and Kevin insisted on paying for it, the two got up and left the coffee shop. The late afternoon sun was golden, turning their skin soft, their hair different shades. As they silently walked along the sidewalk, their shoulders practically touching, their hands would bump every so often. Soon Kevin's hand slid into hers, locking their fingers together. She looked over at him to find a small smile waiting just for her. She smiled back before focusing her attention back to the scenery.

They arrived back at the hotel to find Nick and Melissa in Nick's room playing Nintendo, Brian quietly listening to headphones and writing a letter to his parents, and Howie helping AJ slowly devouring some McDonald's food. Kevin paused at his door as he fished the key out of his pocket. "Hey, Tiff?" he asked just as she had started to walk toward her room.

"Yeah?"

"Wanna watch a movie? I saw that there were a couple of good ones on this evening..."

"That sounds great..." she replied with a soft smile before turning back and following him into his room.
