Chapter 9

Nick grabbed my hand, and squeezed it tightly. He grinned nervously at me, and I crossed my fingers. Madonna was about to announce the winner for album winner of the year. All the guys were sitting up in nervous anticipation. Leigh-Anne caught my eye, and smiled eagerly. I closed my eyes, and took a deep breath.

"And the winner is…the Backstreet Boys," the announcer said, but as soon as she said 'Backstreet' no one could hear her over the roar of the crowd. (Author's Note: Yeah, I know they didn't win. Bare with me.) Nick swept me in a hug, and I squeezed him. As soon as he released me, Howie clapped him on his shoulder, and Allie threw her arms around me. Then they started heading up the stairs, and us girls sat down. I smiled over at Leigh-Anne and whispered, "They won!" She grinned back and screeched back softly, "I know!"

"Of course we gotta thank the big man up above…" Brian started, and Leigh-Anne smiled up at him. "I love you baby." He finished, and AJ hopped up. He mentioned Allie's nickname that he called her, and then Howie stood up. I felt kinda sorry for Howie because he had just recently broken up with his girlfriend.

Kevin started to talk then, and Liz looked like she was about to burst into tears when Kevin mentioned dedicating the album to his 'sweetheart'. Then Nick smiled up on stage. He couldn't see me, the lights were too blinding. He started off with the same junk, and said, "Lastly, I wanna thank Laur. This one's for you baby. I love you."

'Oh shit,' I thought. 'Has he lost it? I'm going to get pelted with teddy bears. Those girls are going to pelt me with teddy bears.' I thought over and over again, until Nick sat down. He leaned down and kissed me, gently on the lips. Then his pants rang.

"Damn. Hello?" he asked pulling his cell phone out of his pocket. "Uh huh…yeah…yeah I did…so I don't give a damn…okay…here she is." He handed me his phone, and I looked at him curiously. "Who is it?" I asked, covering the mouthpiece with my hand.

"It's B.J," he said, staring at the stage.

"Beej?"

"Lauren! Are you going to the party afterwards?" she asked.

"Umm…yeah, probably. Why?" I asked, mystified.

"Because when you guys come home, sneak in the back." She stated.

"Why?"

"Because there are about twenty screaming girls out at the front gates, who look like they wanna kill somebody, namely you," she said bluntly.

"Okay…We'll go in the back. Bye B.J."

"Bye."

She hung up the phone, and I handed it back to Nick. "Are you ready to party?" he asked, smiling that cocky grin that he had been showing lately.

"Yeah. Let's go."
