Chapter 20

I opened my blurry eyes, and blinked a few times in confusion. A light drizzle misted my face, and I was buckled in a seat…'What?' I thought. Then, I remembered rapidly, the accident. The Swerve. The wind shield…Nick.

"Oh, Oh God," I said aloud, and reached my slimy hands, result of the blood, and tried to unbuckle my seat belt. It was jammed however, so I pulled with all my might, and screamed in frustration, and it unlatched. I silently thanked God, and crawled out of my window, and fell limply to the cold, slick grass.

Everything was hazy, colors blended together, and I was exhaussted, and didn't think I could move, until I remembered that Nick was somewhere, and I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I crawled around in the grass, until I could make out a silhouette. Crumpled, and obviously badly injured. I stumbled over to where Nick laid.

I rolled him over, and looked into his eyes. I saw a glimpse of heaven in his eyes. And miraculously, he spoke, and I could hear heaven.

"Laur."

I held his hand, it was so badly cut. He was almost unrecognizable, his hair was matted to his head, and his face had pin points of blood, made from the glass on the windshield. I cried, and my tears fell gently on his face.

"I love you, Nick. I love you so much. I need you with me. I Love You," I told him over and over again. He smiled weakly.

"I love you, too, Lauren. I was going to tell you tonight, anyway. I wanted us to be together. I love you." He gently squeezed my hand. "I'll always be with you. We'll be together forever, baby."

"No, Nick. Please don't leave me. I love you," I cried and cried, and he held my hand, and I buried my head in the crook of his bruised arm. I felt him open his mouth, and a song came out, one he had already sung to me.

I've loved you forever
Lifetimes before
And I promise you never
Will you hurt anymore
I give you my word
I give you my heart
This is a battle we've won
And on this vow

"…forever has now begun," I sang back to him.

"You remember?" he asked, his voice now just a hoarse whisper.

"Yes. I remember everything. I don't want you to leave me, Nick. Please don't go," I knew that I was losing him.

"Lauren. Listen to me," his voice was sore, raspy. "I'm not leaving you. I'll always be watching, always be there. I'll be waiting for you."

"Tell the guys how much I love them…Leigh Anne and Allie too. Leslie, Angel, and B.J, tell them I'll miss them so much. And Aaron. Watch over him, Lauren. Promise me?"

"I swear, Nick."

"My mom and dad, too. And the fans. Don't let anybody go without a good bye. I wish...I wish I didn't have to go Laur. I don't wanna leave you. I love you." I watched as his eyes grew heavy.

"I love you too, Nick." And he smiled, one last smile, and his eyes closed.
