Two Weeks Later

I raced into the house, just as the rain came thrashing down from the sky.

"Damn Florida Storms. Always happen when you least want them too." I mumbled to myself as I threw my coat on the floor of the empty house. I had just gotten back from work, and wanted to work on my tan. I was looking pretty pale.

I kicked off my shoes, and made my way over to the rapidly blinking answer machine. I pushed play. "You have three new messages," the automated voice said.

"That's nice," I said to it.

"Hey Lauren, me Allie. Just checking in," a voice replied. "I'm on the bus, the guys are out, and I'm bored. I know, why the hell am I talking to your answering machine…because I have no life. Anyway, call me when you get in okay?"

"Yeah, Yeah, Yeah whatever," I muttered.

"Hey Lauren, Maria here. You know your sister you never can call back? Yeah, well I haven't heard from you in a while. Call me." My sister's voice boomed out of the speaker.

"Blah, Blah, Blah." I said.

"Hey Laur." A smile was instantly on my face, when I realized I was listening to Nick.

"Just calling to see what you were doing. Allie said something bout calling earlier or something, but I don't know. You know what Brian told me to do? He said I should sing a song to you, you know, over the answering machine. But that's corny right? Oh well, I'm gonna do it anyway. Don't worry, I'm not gonna sing one of our songs."

I grinned, and waited for him to begin. I could hear him put the phone down, resting it on a table or something. I heard him clear his throat, and I laughed.

I've loved you forever
Lifetimes before
And I promise you never
Will you hurt anymore
I give you my word
I give you my heart
This is a battle we've won
And on this vow
Forever has just begun

Halfway through the song I started to sniffle. When he finished A tear ran down my face. When I heard him pick up the phone, he sounded a little sheepish. "I hope you liked it. I've gotta go now. Call me later. Love you."

I grabbed the phone and dialed the phone on the bus. Q picked up.

"McDonalds. Do you want fries with that?" Q asked.

"Q. It's me Lauren. You don't have to do the old 'let's fool the smart teeny boppers' routine with me. Is Nick there?" I asked.

He chuckled and said, "Nick's not here right now. Are you sure you don't want fries with that?" I grinned and pretended to be annoyed.

"No fries. Tell Nick to call me when he gets in okay?" I told him sternly.

"I think you'll be able to tell him yourself." He answered with a tone that screamed 'I know something that you don't know'. Q always knew how to get to me.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked quickly. That, of course, just set him off even more.

"You'll be able to tell him yourself that you don't want fries with that." He replied.

I pulled the phone away from ear and groaned. "Whatever Q. Bye."

"Bye Ms. McDonald."

I turned off the phone and walked to my room. Since I wasn't gonna be able to tan, it was time for a sappy movie marathon.
