Chapter 7

Because today was Wednesday, Elle had to pick up Carrie from her friend Anna's house. This was a task that Elle hated with a fiery passion. Anna's house was on the other side of town across Madison Ave. "Damn this neighborhood freaks me out," Elle thought as she drove past a dark ally to 188 B on Kings Ave. While parked in the parking lot outside of Anna's apartment complex, Elle made sure that the doors were locked and her laptop and cell phone were in the trunk. It was obvious the both Anna's mom, Christina and Carrie could pick up on Elle's edgy fear.

"Hi Elle," Christina said. "How are you?"

"I am fabulous, what about you?" Elle replied, attempting to hide her fear.

"I am doing pretty good." Christina answered.

"I am glad to hear that. Is Carrie ready?" Elle asked

"Yeah, she's just grabbing her shoes." Christina said.

"That seems to be a theme for the day," joked Elle.

"I have to ask you something Mrs. Anderson."

"What's that?" Christina questioned.

"Well, you know about that interview on Friday. Right?" Elle asked.

"No, I have no idea," Christina replied sarcastically. "Of course I know. The whole entire world knows."

"I guess so," Elle said sheepishly. "Could you possibly keep Carrie over here after school until about 10 o' clock?"

"Of course," Christina reassured. "I would be more than happy to."

"Thank you so much Mrs. Anderson," Elle said. Ten minutes later, Elle and Carrie were in the car that was slowly creeping through traffic.
