Chapter 4

"Move your hand under your chin," instructed David, the photographer. "Perfect" he declared, "That's a rap."

"I had no idea that this photo shoot was going to take two hours," Elle announced.

"You're a natural beauty Elle, it was all you."

"Thanks Dave."

Next Elle headed for her interview with Gary that was going to be use for the cover story. At first the questions were simple. "What do you think about being one of the youngest people working at Jive New York?" "How do you take your coffee?" Then Gary asked "How are you dealing with the death of your parents?" At that, Elle began to feel the lump in her throat rise. She quickly answered and then the interview was over.

It was about 3 o' clock when Elle was finally done with everything that she needed to do to turn in her report to Maranda. When she got to Maranda's office, the prints from the photo shoot were in. To Elle's amazement, they weren't actually that bad. "The lighting Dave used really shows off your blue eyes and perfect skin," Maranda commented.

"Thanks," Elle said. "But my skin's not that perfect. Do you think that these are going to be okay for The Monthly Jive?"

"Thanks," Elle said. "But my skin's not that perfect. Do you think that these are going to be okay for The Monthly Jive?"

"I hope so. But, if my opinion means anything, these pictures might land you in Cover Girl ads, let alone give people a glimpse of the glamor in the record business. The press only seems to get a hold of the horrors at Jive."

"That's for sure. But it's my job to worry about that. Not yours. Thanks Maranda and I'll see you tomorrow."

By the time Elle finally reached home, it was 6 o' clock. Carrie greeted her at the door followed by an "I'm starving. When are we going to eat?"

"Well, what would you say if we ordered pizza for the second time in this century?"

"Haha, that's funny Elle. Are you serious?" Carrie exclaimed.

"Go for it," Elle said.

When the pizza arrived, Elle told Carrie about the photo shoot and interview. In just 4 days, Elle was going to be on the cover of The Monthly Jive.

"Things are finally starting to fall into place" was Elle's last thought as she drifted off to sleep.
