Chapter 6

She was gone for about twenty minutes and Nick got a phone call from her.

"Nick, I needed to tell you something before I left." She was on her cell phone.

"Alright, go ahead."

"I know that we've been through a lot. We've argued about stupid things. But, all in all, you are the greatest guy I've ever dated. You're kind and caring."

For a minute, Nick thought she was going to say she loved him and come running back so they could be together. But, he was wrong.

"And, when you find someone else," she continued. "Then, I hope that she will be grateful for everything you do for her, cause she'll be one lucky girl."

"Thanks, Jessica. I'll remember that."

"Okay, Nick. I have to go now."

"Alright. Be careful."

"You too. Bye, Nick."

"Bye." It was barely a whisper. Then, he slowly hung up the phone.

*** (That Night) ***

Everyone was home and Nick gathered them in the living room.

"You're all probably wondering where Jessica is," he started. "Well, she left. She and I broke up this afternoon. For good. And she decided all this wasn't for her., so she quit Forever Love."

"What??!!" Kari yelled. "You caused this, Nick!"

"How did I cause it?"

"You broke up with her."

"No! We decided it together. I wasn't the only one who did it. We decided it was best and that wasn't the only reason for her leaving. She said that this wasn't for her."

"She loved being in the group. It was her dream!" Kari yelled back.

"Kari, calm down." Brian went over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. "It was Jessica's decision."

Kari pulled away from Brian. "You too? Well, Jessica is my best friend in the whole world, and I'm not going to let you all do this to her. I quit the group too!" She went upstairs and slammed the door to her room.

"Any other questions?" Kevin asked.

***Change of Scene***

Julie and Kari went home. Forever Love was officially over. Kari and Brian stayed together, they just had to deal with a long-distance relationship. Nick and A.J. missed the girls that were once in their lives. They hadn't heard from either of them.

*** (Two Months Later)***

Nick was on a date with another girl. Her name was Natalie. They were in his hotel room.

"Sit here with me, Nick," she said and sat down on the sofa. Nick sat with her.

"I had a wonderful time tonight," she leaned forward and started kissing him on the lips.

"Jessica . . . ," he said after a couple minutes of kissing.

"What?!" Natalie yelled pulling back.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"Yeah. You will be. I'm outta here," she got up and walked out the door.

"Carter! Why do you always screw everything up?" he yelled to himself out loud. "You haven't talked to Jessica in weeks. Get over her.!"

"You can't get over her when you still love her," Brian said as he and A.J. walked into the room.

"I don't love her. In all the time we were together, I never told her I loved her."

"I've been doin' something, and I want to get Julie back."

"That's fine and everything, but how do you plan to accomplish that?" Nick asked.

"Call her," A.J. said. "And I think you should call Jessica."

"I'm not calling her," Nick complained.

"Why not?" asked A.J.

"Because. It's too hard."

"Her birthday is next week."

"I'm aware of that, A.J!"

"Just call her. Talk to her. You need to." Brian and A.J. left the room. Nick put his head in his hands.

"They just don't understand," Nick told himself. "I told her to call me. She hasn't. She probably won't. Jessica has no idea what she's putting me through."

Brian walked back in the room. He'd heard Nick talking to himself.

"Nick, I thought you and Jessica both agreed to break up," he said.

"I know. But, I only did it for her. I figured she just needed some time to collect herself or something. But, she never called me like she said she would."

"Maybe it's too hard for her."

"But, this isn't fair to me. You're right, Brian. I love her. And now, I'm just sitting around thinking about how much I miss her. She enters my thoughts every night. I haven't had a decent sleep since she left."

"I don't think she's coming back, Nick."

"How do you know? She could come back. She may still feel something for me."

"Don't you remember what she said before she left? She said when you found another girl-"

"I know! Can't I have the benefit of a doubt?"

"I just think it would be better for you if you let go."

"Okay. I'll try."

"Good."
