***The Next Morning***
_________________________________________________________________________________________
A.J. woke up in his room. He and Julie tried to have a decent evening last night, but they couldn't decide where to go to dinner. He walked into the kitchen and saw Nick sitting on a stool at the counter.
"Hey, Man," greeted Nick.
"Hey."
"You look like you didn't get much sleep last night," A.J. said looking at him slouched over on the counter.
"That's because I didn't"
Jessica walked in the kitchen as well. Nick noticed what she was wearing and thought she looked great in it. She grabbed her car keys and walked out the door.
"Okay, something happened between you two," A.J said.
"Yeah. We broke up."
"Why?"
"I don't wanna talk about it." Nick left A.J. alone in the kitchen.
"Well, I have just been cut."
Brian and Kari went out to the beach.
"I'm so glad me and you have this time to spend together," Brian told her.
"Me too, but I feel bad because of what happened to Nick and Jessica."
"They'll work things out in due time."
"But, what if they don't?"
"They will. Don't worry about it."
Kari smiled to herself and though about how much she loved being with Brian.
***Change of Scene***
Jessica went back home after about five hours. She had been everywhere trying to keep her mind off Nick. Speaking of Nick, he was on the couch watching TV when Jessica walked in. She walked right in front of him. Nick stared at her with every move she made. He tried not to, but he couldn't help it. She was beautiful. Nick saw her sit down at the table. She looked exasperated.
"Are you okay?" he asked her.
"Leave me alone," she snapped back.
"Sorry. I won't worry about you anymore."
"Good. I don't need you to."
"Hey!" It was Howie. He walked into the room. "Could you two please stop arguing? I'd like to be able to hear by the end of the day."
"Doesn't do any good to talk to her anyhow," Nick mumbled.
"You know ya'll still got it bad for each other." Then Howie went out to the back door to the pool.
"Yeah, right," Nick said sarcastically.
Everyone went out to a club. The BSB was sitting at one table and Forever Love at another. They had to practically drag Jessica there. Kari and Brian were out on the dance floor. Later the evening, N'Sync was supposed to come out and perform. It was a special thing the club was doing. Jessica kept looking Nick's way.
"It'll be okay," Julie said.
"But, I miss him."
"I can't tell you how to stop missing him. It takes time."
"Forget it. How are things with you and A.J.?"
"We're not working out very well. When we tried to go to dinner last night, we couldn't agree on where to go."
***Change of Scene***
Nick got out of his seat and walked over to a dark haired girl.
"Hey," he said. "Would you like to dance?"
"Sure," she answered.
They walked out onto the dance floor. Brian joined Howie, Kevin, and A.J. at the table. Kari went back to where Julie and Jessica were.
"Where's Nick?" Brian asked.
"Out there," Kevin pointed to where Nick was still dancing with the girl.
"Why is he doing that?" Brian asked.
" I can't believe him and Jessica haven't gotten back together yet," A.J. said.
"Nick just has his head up his butt right now. He is trying to act like this isn't bothering him and he's dancing with her to prove it to all of us. But, he still wants Jessica. Give it time," Brian explained.
"They were yelling at each other this afternoon," Howie told them.
"I think Nick should apologize" Kevin said.
***Change of Scene***
Jessica saw Nick dancing with the girl on the dance floor. Nick saw her watching. At first, he felt guilty. But, he shrugged the guilt away. Jessica felt tears come to her eyes. N'Sync came out on the stage. The first song they did was Tearin' Up My Heart. After Nick danced with the girl, he went back to his seat and she went back to hers. He looked at Jessica.
"Nick, go talk to her," Howie said.
"I can't"
"Yes, you can," he tried to reason.
God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You ended. N'Sync took a break. Nick wanted to go talk to Jessica, but he was scared. He knew he was wrong for what he did. N'Sync came back in five. They started to sing Everything I Own.
"This is my chance," he said to himself. Nick went over to Jessica.
"Dance with me," he said. Silently, she got out of her seat and walked with Nick.
On the dance floor, he put his arms around her waist and leaned his head to hers so he could talk in her ear.
"I'm sorry, Jessica. I was wrong."
"Nick, you just got done dancing with another girl. I'm sure she'll be happy to take my place," she said sarcastically.
Nick took Jessica's hand and drug her off the floor, guiding her to an empty table.
After they sat down, Nick said, "You don't understand. I don't want anyone to take your place."
"Well, you looked mighty happy dancing with her."
"I was trying to get my mind off you. I didn't want her."
"You have to understand that you can't go around flirting with all these girls. Not when you have a girlfriend. What if it was me and I was hanging all over some guy?"
"I wasn't all over her. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have given that girl my phone number."
"I still can't believe you did that."
"Well, I wasn't going to try to get with her or anything."
"I can't handle this," she said and left the club.
