The next morning, Mrs. Lavent woke Jessica up. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
"I'm fine, Mom."
"Alright. Well. I'm going to work now. Nick isn't here yet. I haven't heard from him. Will you be alright?"
"Yeah. I'm sure Nick will be here soon."
"Okay. I'll see you later."
She kissed Jessica on the forehead and left. Jessica pulled herself out of bed and went to her closet. She put on pair of jeans and a Gap sweatshirt. She slipped on her white tennis shoes and went downstairs. Within the next 10 minutes, Nick walked in the door. "Hey," he said.
"Hey."
"I'm sorry I'm late."
"It's alright." She didn't ask why he was late in case it was something personal.
"Jess, we gotta talk," he said.
"What is it?"
Nick sat down beside Jessica. "I really really like you."
"Yeah. I really like you too." Jessica gave him a confused look.
"Uh. . . well. . . Jess, I don't know. Will you be my girlfriend?" Nick was ready to shoot himself. He shouldn't have asked her to be his girlfriend. "What was I thinking?" he thought to himself. "I am taking advantage of this situation. What happens when she gets her memory back?"
"Of course I will!" Jessica said and threw her arms around Nick's neck.
"It's too late now," he thought. "I just care about you so much," Nick said to her.
"I care about you too. I'm so glad you're here."
"Can you go anywhere yet?" he asked.
"Sure. Where do you wanna go?" she asked.
"Come on. You'll see." Nick took her to the lake, where they had gone many times before.
"I love this place," she said.
"Yeah. It's great."
