Nick got up. He was never really sure if he prayed right. He just always says what's on his mind. When Nick walked back into Jessica's room, Kari was still sitting by her bed.
"She okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. She's the same. I'm really scared. What if she never wakes up?"
"She will, Kari. I know it."
"All I can remember is how upset she's been these past few months. It almost killed her when you two broke up. Have you noticed how pale she's been? She didn't just lose her color since the accident. She's been this way for a while."
"Please stop. I can't talk about it."
Kari noticed that Nick was on the verge of tears. "You really are beating yourself up over this, aren't you?"
"I really don't wanna talk about it."
"Okay. I'll let you have your seat back. I have to go, anyhow. Call me if anything happens."
"I will."
As Kari began to walk out, she stopped herself by the door when she heard Nick's voice speaking.
"I hope you don't think I'm trying to feel sorry for myself by saying that it's my fault you're in here. It just seems like everyone is blaming me. Well, I don't know. Your mom doesn't seem to, but Kari does. I hope you won't blame me when you wake up. I promise I'll stick by your side through this whole thing. I will never leave you. You just better not leave me."
Kari walked out, quietly praying that Jessica would be alright.
Hours later, Nick was still sitting in the hospital room. He wouldn't leave. Many people offered to stay with her so he could go home and get some rest, but he stayed there. He wasn't budging. Nick began to speak to her again. "I've been sitting here thinking about a lot of things. Mostly thinking about the day we met. You were gorgeous. And your smile was so radiant. And our first date. You were so shy that night and I could tell you were nervous too. To tell you the truth, so was I. I've been remembering all the good times we've had. And I can't help but remember the bad. All the arguments we had were so petty. We argued over nothing. That stupid time we argued about how to get to the movie theater. It's pretty funny now that I think about it. I'm sorry that I never said I loved you. Now, I might not get that chance.
"Nick?"
He looked up and saw Brian standing in the door. "Hey, Bri."
"I stopped by to bring you a change of clothes and food."
"Thanks, but I don't know if I can eat right now."
"Sure you can. Nick Carter can eat anything at anytime. Besides, it's Mickey D's. You need to eat something."
"Okay. I'll eat."
Brian sat down in a chair. "Do you think she'll wake up soon.?"
ick was chewing on some french fries. "I don't know. I sure hope so. I have so many things to say to her."
"How long are you gonna stay here?" Brian asked.
"Until she wakes up."
"I'm really sorry, Nick. I wish there was something I could do to help."
"You've already helped. By bringing these things up here. Thank-you."
"You're welcome. I have to go now. We still have that concert tonight."
"No one's mad becase I'm not going to be there, are they?"
"No. They understand."
"Good."
"Well, I'll se you later, alright?"
"Alright." Brian left.
"Your mom is coming back by on her lunch break tomorrow," Nick said to Jessica. "She wants to be here more often, but she can't. I'm sure she's thinking about having to pay the hospital bill too, so she wants to keep working. But, she'll come tomorrow and hopefully you'll be awake by then."
***Mrs. Lavent comes by the next day***
"I'm really worried now," Mrs. Lavent said. "I don't understand why she's not awake yet."
"I know. This is the third day."
"My poor girl. This shouldn't have happened to you," she said.
Nick felt a pang of guilt.
"Oh my God! Nick, go get a doctor. I think she's coming out of it."
Nick ran out of the room and tried to get someone. Two seconds later, he and Jessica's doctor came back in. They all watched as her eyes fluttered. Then, they opened.
"Mom?" she said.
"Yeah, honey. It's me."
"Where am I?"
"In the hospital," Nick answered.
"Who are you?" she asked.
